Preselection

Since early January various Italian sources have been speculating that it will be singer Emma Marrone internally chosen (not as part of San Remo festival) for the contest. On January 21, website EuroFestivalNews.com has called it a day - there is enough of evidence, interview slips, Twitter clues etc, that Emma has been chosen for Eurovision and official confirmation is imminent. According to the website: Emma is likely to enter her next single - "La mia città", that was already released on re-issue of her latest album "Schiena vs Schiena" on November 12, 2013.

The Italian broadcaster RAI made the official confirmation that Italy will be represented in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest by Emma Marone on January 22. It is the 1st case of RAI doing internal selection not related to San Remo since 1991.

On January 25, broadcaster RAI confirmed that the song Emma will sing in Copenhagen is indeed "La Mia Città". Marrone said about the song choice that she is very happy as the song is penned by herself. It is produced by Brando who said about La Mia Città's sound to be inspired by 80s rock. The song will be edited to meet the length rule of the Eurovision Song Contest.
