Elaiza connect traditions of Eastern European folk with modern pop melodies to create a unique catchy mixture. Themselves they call their extraordinary Roots-pop crossover style Neo-folk. Just as their new home Berlin is diverce, sound of Elaiza is based on contrast and provides constantly creative energy: ыometimes melancholic, sometimes dramatic. "Inspiration is everywhere, you just need to perceive correctly," says Ela. Their songs have both biographical reflections, as well as haunting observations of their environment: early death of his father, relationship problems, heartbreaks. Elaiza unites joy and sorrow, just like the real life.
Frontwoman Ela (Elżbieta Steinmetz) was born in Ukraine in 1992. She composes songs at the piano and writes lyrics and is a big fan of Alla Pugacheva. In Ukraine she has started singing in church choir and inherited from there love to Eastern European sounds. After the death of her Ukrainian father, who was a musician, Ela and her Polish-born mother, jazz and opera singer, have moved to Poland and shortly after it at the age of 8 to Saarland. At the age of ten she started learning playing the piano. At age 16 she began professionally making music and more and more often, she was going to Berlin to make sound recordings. In a recording studio, she met the accordionist Yvonne Grünwald. Gruenwald is originally from Saxony-Anhalt and moved to study music to Berlin. Then they have met Natalie Plöger, who came from Friesland, and in early 2013 have formed the band Elaiza. When Ela is not in Berlin, band is rehearsing and writing songs via skype.""We met at a schnapps tasting - and now we will do everything that all of Europe can dance the night away in front of the Brandenburg Gate"
In March 2013 Elaiza recorded demo LP "March 28" in Emil-Berliner-Studios. The band won in 2013 "Newcomer Award" at Women Of The World Festival and is currently working on their debut album "Gallery" to appear in spring. On February 28, 2014 Elaiza released on Heart Of Berlin (Universal) EP Is It Right / Fight Against Myself with the two singles that she has been competing in Eurovision preselection. As Ela told in her first interview after the victory, which she has given to ESCKAZ website, "Is it right" was written specially for the participation of the band in Eurovision preliminaries. It was decided to perform it in English language, so that as much as possible people could get interested in them and their song. Emma has been watching Eurovision regularly since her move from Ukraine, and she usually supported Ukraine and Poland, having her favourite entry "Wild Dances" of Ruslana.
With "Is It Right" the band had first to win a wildcard round for newcomers, which took place as club concert in the Edelfettwerk. 3.950.000 viewers tuned in to watch band unexpectedly triumphing at the national final in Cologne, beating top-selling acts like Unheilig and Santiano. Overall more than 1.9 million calls and SMS were received: 552 465 calls and SMS in 1st round, 645 080 in 2nd, and 721 736 in 3rd. "Is It Right" charted 1st on iTunes Germany immediately after the victory. Elaiza also revealed that they not only have the drummer Bernhard, who performed with them at the preselection, but several drummers in store. "Actually, each of us has own drummer," Yvonne said, "we always ask the one who just has time.". Yvonne will celebrate her birthday on the day of Eurovision final in Copenhagen. "Actually I wanted to go on the day to Berlin to the Cirque de Soleil performance - now I've got something better to do!", she said.
"One thing I can already say. This day has turned upside down our lives completely. It's unbelieavable. Only Youtube, then Hamburg, then Cologne, and now Copenhagen! "

Actually, the video for the Eurovision song "Is It Right" should have been ready long time ago. But the band just has no enough time. Television appearances, concerts, and interviews - the schedule is full. But now it was finally time. Ela, Natalie and Yvonne have cleared one day in their schedule for the shootings in the Berliner Havelstudios.Althougt there already is a video with a slower acoustic version, which dates back to quieter times before the ESC hype, in advance of the Song Contest it was decided to make an official music video with the right sound for Copenhagen. Already in less than a week the video will be released.
Mark Moritz and Frank Machel are responsible for directing and cinematography. They are absolute professionals in the music business and have worked with Silbermond, Ich + Ich, Sarah Connor and Florence + the Machine.
It will be attended by Helene Fischer and Adel Tawil as well as Jan Delay. There will be live interview with Elaiza from Copenhagen, where they will share their thoughts just prior going on the stage in the final.
After the Eurovision final, "Grand Prix Party" will be broadcasted from Reeperbahn, from 00:15, again with Barbara Schöneberg, other stars and Elaiza on live connection.
The party on the Spielbudenplatz on the Reeperbahn is free to enter.
German Eurovision preview show "Der große ESC-Songcheck" will be aired online on eurovision.de on April 3-6 at 18.00 CET and on EinsPlus channel on May 5-8. The shows will be hosted by Veronika Emily Pohl. The reviewers, different in each show, will be: Peter Urban, commentator of ESC, NDR 2 host Thomas Mohr, eurovision.de-Blogger Jan Feddersen and hr3 radio host Tim Frühling. Not only the experts will have their say, YouTube-Star Torge Oelrich, alias Freshtorge, will represent fan perspective.

Only recently band Elaiza have won the qualifying round for the Eurovision Song Contest. Now they are already at the Echo award and will perform there alongside superstars such as Kylie Minogue and James Blunt. The show will be broadcasted on March 27 on ARD Das Erste from 20:15 CET and can be seen online. "Before the preselection round we so happy to have 2000 Likes on Facebook. We have been fighting to get that: we have been doing the road music, small concerts. And then, overnight, there were suddenly 16 000, now there are almost 20 000. But we were not zero before, we're all making music since we're children, and not since like yesterday".
After national preselection, band has been loaded with interviews, fan mails, TV appearances, rushing from one appointment to another. Singer Ela (21) says: "I'm actually getting shuttled between Saarland and Berlin, but currently we live straight on suitcases." Accordion player Yvonne (29) even lacks the time for washing of her clothes: "All my things are dirty." And double bassist Natalie (28) even can't make a tooth surgery: "My wisdom tooth should actually have been pulled out last year already."Yet, Ela still doesn't want to move from Saarland to Berlin. She'd rather get up at 4 o'clock in the morning and drive eight hours by train. "In Saarland, everything is so nice and small. Everybody knows everybody, "said the singer. Yet, she has a big appreciation to Berlin as well. "Berlin is wonderful to evolve as an artist. You can also perform in so many clubs there to get an experience".
"We still can't imagine that our performance will be seen by millions of people from all over the globe. We are just delighted. And we will do our best. We don't yet know what other countries will think of us. We are not going to have some special outfits and there will be no big pyros. But we haven't seen the stage yet, so we don't know exactly what would be the setting. We're not afraid to perform, just a positive tension is there. Of course, we wouldn't like to finish last, that would be a pity. But even then we would not be sitting at home desperately unhappy and unable to continue making music. There is nothing that would prevent us from being on the stage"
Earlier this week the band gave performance at Herzgrün Festival in Berlin (soundcheck).
The full album of Elaiza "Gallery" is released on March 28, 2014, including 12 tracks and among them "Is It Right". Limited edition LP "March 28", recorded live in studio exactly a year ago and released on September 5 2013 which also includes "Is It Right" is still available for purchase as well. The Eurovision song "Is It Right" indicates well the music direction of the album. Polka-folk-pop dominates it. It also includes another USFD entry "Fight Against Myself" and as varied contrast there are delicate piano ballads "Goodbye" and "Thank You". "Without" plays with Ela's voice and a deep creaking bass marking a melancholy mood, before it ends up in a dramatic finale. The twelve songs on "Gallery" are aimed to show that Elaiza certainly can not be labeled a one-hit wonder. The band has worked on the album with producer Ingo Politz, who has also worked with Silbermond and Silly. All songs are in English and all written by the singer Ela Steinmetz. Meanwhile, "Is It Right" climbed to 4th place in the German charts and reached number 1 on the iTunes charts.

Preselection
German entry for Eurovision Song Contest 2014 will be selected via "Unser Song für Dänemark" show that will take place at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne on 13 March 2014. It will be hosted by Barbara Schöneberger with Janin Reinhardt in Green-room. 8 artists will participate in competition with two songs each, with 7 of them being established artists: Unheilig, Das Gezeichnete Ich, Oceana, MarieMarie, Madeline Juno, Santiano, The Baseballs and 1 - winner of wildcard round for young talents. German Eurovision entry will be chosen in three rounds of voting, in all of them decision will be made by 100% televoting. In the first round, each artist will perform one of the two songs. Viewers will select top 4 artists to progress to the second round, where they will perform their second song. Then viewers will select two songs for the final round (they should be of different artists). There, televoting will determine the winning song. Солистка коллектива Эла (Эльжбета Штайнмец) родилась в Украине в 1992 году. Она сочиняет песни за фортепиано, пишет тексты и является большой поклонницей Аллы Пугачевой. В Украине она начала петь в школьном хоре, и унаследовала оттуда любовь к восточно-европейской музыке. После смерти ее отца, украинского музыканта, Эла и ее мать-полячка, джазовая и оперная певица, перебрались в Польшу, а оттуда в возрасте 8 лет в Саар, Германию. В возрасте 10 лет она начала заниматься игрой на фортепиано. В 16 лет начала профессионально заниматься музыкой, и потому ей все чаще и чаще ей приходилось ездить в Берлин, чтобы записывать песни. Вообще-то, видеоклип на песню "Is It Right" должен был быть сделан уже давно. Но у группы просто не было на это времени. Выступления по телевидению, концерты и интервью - расписание Elaiza переполнено. Но, наконец, время пришло. Эла, Натали и Ивонн освободили один день в своем графике для съемок, которые прошли в Berliner Havelstudios.Хотя еще до национального отбора было снято видео на медленную акустическую версию, для конкурса Евровидение было решено снять официальный видеоклип с актуальным звучанием. Только недавно группа Elaiza победила на национальном отборе на конкурс Евровидение. Теперь они примут участие в церемонии крупнейшей немецкой музыкальной премии Echo Award и выступят на одной сцене с такими суперзвездами, как Кайли Миноуг и Джеймс Блант. Шоу будет транслироваться каналом ARD Das Erste 27 марта в 23.15 Москвы, также его можно увидеть онлайн."До отбора мы были счастливы тому, что у нас есть 2000 лайков на Facebook. Мы очень сильно боролись за это: играли на улицах, давали небольшие концерты. И вдруг за одну ночь их число увеличилось до 16 000, а сейчас почти приблизилось к 20 000. Но мы не были нулем и раньше, мы все занимаемся музыкой с детского возраста, а не со вчерашнего дня"
После отбора группа была загружена интервью, перепиской с поклонниками, телевыступленими, буквально передвигаясь с одного на другое. Солистка коллектива, 21-летняя Эла говорит: "Мне приходится ездить между Сааром и Берлином, и в настоящее время я практически живу на чемоданах". 29-летняя аккордеонистка Ивонн говорит, что у нее даже не было времени выстирать свои костюмы: "Они уже все грязные!". А 28-летняя контрабасистка Натали каждый день откладывает поход к зубному врачу: "По-хорошему, мой зуб мудрости надо было вырвать еще в прошлом году"И все-таки Эла не хочет переезжать из Саара в Берлин на постоянное место жительства. Она готова просыпаться в 4 утра и ездить по 8 часов на поезде. "В Сааре, все такое милое и маленькое. Каждый друг друга знает", говорит она. И все-таки, она ценит и столицу. "Берлин - прекрасное место для развития артиста. Там можно выступать во множестве клубов, чтобы нарабатывать опыт".
"Мы до сих пор не можем представить, что наше выступление увидят миллионы зрителей со всей Земли. Мы просто счастливы. И мы сделаем все, что от нас зависит. Пока мы не знаем, понравится ли наше выступление другим странам. У нас определенно не будет каких-то особых костюмов или огромных феерверков. Но мы еще не видели, какая будет сцена в Копенгагене, поэтому пока ничего не можем сказать о том, как мы будем выступать на ней. Выступать мы не боимся, присутствует только позитивное напряжение. Ранее на этой неделе группа выступила на Herzgrün Festival в Берлине (soundcheck).
Полный альбом Elaiza "Gallery" выходит в свет 28 марта 2014 года и включает в себя 12 треков, в том числе и песню Евровидения "Is It Right". Также все еще можно приобрести и пластинку "March 28", изданную ограниченным тиражом, записанную вживую в студии ровно год назад, и вышедшую 5го сентября 2013 года - на нее также входит акустическая версия "Is It Right". Песня "Is It Right" точно демонстрирует музыкальное направление альбома, в котором доминирует полька-фолк-поп музыка. Также на него вошла и вторая конкурсная песня группы "Fight Against Myself". Разнообразие вносят две фортепианные баллады "Goodbye" и "Thank You". "Without" играет с голосом Элы и глубоким скрипом контрабаса, создавая меланхолическое настроение, перед переходом к драматическому финалу. В общем, все 12 песен "Gallery" призваны показать, что группу Elaiza уж точно нельзя будет назвать исполнителями одной песни. Группа работала над альбомом с продюсером Инго Полицем, который ранее работал с Silbermond и Silly. Все песни звучат на английском языке и написаны солисткой группы Элой Штайнмец. Тем временем "Is It Right" уже достигла 4го места в немецких чартах и 1го в чарте iTunes.

Представитель Германии на конкурсе Евровидение 2014 будет выбран в рамках шоу "Unser Song für Dänemark", которое пройдет в Lanxess Arena в Кельне 13 марта 2014 года. Ведущей отбора станет Барбара Шенебергер, а Джанин Рейнхардт будет брать интервью у артистов в гринруме. В отборе примут участие 8 артистов, 7 из них - будучи опытными исполнителями: Unheilig, Das Gezeichnete Ich, Oceana, MarieMarie, Madeline Juno, Santiano, The Baseballs и 1 - победитем специального вайлдкард раунда для молодых талантов. Песня для Евровидения будет определена в трех раундах голосования, каждый из которых будет решаться 100% телеголосованием. В первом раунде - каждый из артистов исполнит одну из двух песен. Телеголосование выберет четырех лучших артистов во второй раунд, где они исполнят свои вторые песни. Там телезрители выберут две песни для участия в финальном раунде (они должны быть от разных артистов). В нем, голосованием зрителей будет отобрана песня-победитель. Специальные гости: Emmelie de Forest, Adel Tawil и Emma Marrone.
