Marta Jandová and Václav Noid Bárta will represent Czech Republic at Eurovison 2015 with emotional rock ballad "Hope Never Dies".

Marta Jandova was born on April 13, 1974. She is the daughter of Petr Janda, one of the most popular Czech rock musicians, leader of Olympic group, and dancer Jana Jandova. After school graduation Marta went to US as an exchange student to study English language. In 1993 she came to Germany and although she wasn't speaking German language, few days after her arrival she got a proposal from guitarist Thorsten Mewes to in a new band. A few months later, in March 1994, was Die Happy first appearance. With the group she has released 9 albums. In addition to that, she's also pursued a solo career, and she participated in the German Bundesvision Song Contest in 2005 and 2007, where she teamed up with the bands Apocalyptica and Oomph, respectively. Oomph! feat. Marta Jandová were winners of the show with "Träumst du?". Also cooperated with groups Dog Eat Gog, In Extremo, Revolverheld (getting Radio Regenbogen Award for "Halt dich an mir fes"). In 2008 she moved to Prague and her career diversified: She worked both as a TV presenter and continued to perform as a vocalist with several popular bands in Germany and the Czech Republic. She also starred in musicals "Mona Lisa" and "Hamlet" (meeting Václav Noid Bárt in it). Since November 2009 she hosts TV program neoMusic on ZDFneo and in 2010 she was jury member in casting show Popstars on ProSieben. Also was coach on Czechoslovakian version of The Voice show - Hlas Česko-Slovenska.

Václav Noid Bárta: "I've already had the opportunity to perform with Marta before and we both felt there was quite good chemistry going on. Marta is sensuous, a real woman, with an amazing voice and great technique. Her personality oozes charisma which means anyone could sing a duet with her and it would turn out well.".

Václav Noid Bárta was born on October 17, 1980. His father was a lyricist and producer, while his mother was a singer. At the age of 17, he became the lead vocalist of the nu-metal group "Dolores Clan" (currently known as "Noid Crew"), and at the same time starred in several musicals including Aida, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hamlet, Excalibur, Robin Hood, Carmen, Obraz Doriana Greye, Lucie, větší než malé množství lásky. He is composing film music and songs of various genres for himself and other artists (Bara Basiková and others). In 2013 he released debut solo album. Today he is famous as a singer, composer, lyricist, and actor - so, a very versatile artist altogether. His current solo stuff includes a shift to more pop music as well as cooperation with the symphony orchestra .

Marta Jandová: "Vašek is a very talented singer. I used to think he is just kind of a self-made rocker, but he turned out to be a full-fledged musician. There is also a big topic we share that makes us closer – our two little daughters about whom we talk quite a lot."

"For ten years, I have been living in Germany where everybody watches Eurovision, including the toughest rockers who always have a six-pack to go with their TV. It is a major evening for them, one of the reasons probably being they've already won twice. To know that a lot of my German friends will be watching makes the whole thing twice as interesting for me!," says Marta Jandová. Vaclav Noid Barta agrees with her saying: "It's an honor for me and I'm really happy about it. Together with Marta, we're going to try not to embarrass the Czech Republic. Eurovision is a good contest, not quite as well established around here, but I know from my friends abroad that they are super-excited about it, consider it a real spectacle and festivity. ".

Ljubljana, Budapest, Moscow, Krakow, Belgrade, Bucharest and Prague - all these cities have visited The Makemakes at the invitation of the City of Vienna and its liaison offices in the past seven weeks. Yesterday, on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 they were together with the Vienna City Councillor Christian Oxonitsch and the executive producer of "Eurovision Song Contest" Edgar Böhm in the Czech capital. At a press conference, there was also a reunion (they have already met at the "London Eurovision Party") with the Czech representatives Marta Jandová and Václav Noid Bárta. Both presented during an evening reception at the Fashion Club Prague their Eurovision entries. At the end of the press conference there have appeared a surprise guest by: Karel Gott, who has represented Austria at the 1968 ESC and who came to wish good luck to all participants of the show.

"We are delighted that the Czech Republic again this year takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest", said Councillor Christian Oxonitsch during the press conference. "This underlines the good relations between Vienna and Prague, which also build on the work of our Vienna Liaison Office here in Prague. In Vienna, the last preparations are in progress for the song contest to be in full swing!".

The Makemakes: "The international meetings in Europe and concerts in Austria, our promotional tour is coming to the end. It was very nice and exciting, but also stressful time. In addition, we have also been working on our debut album that got the finishing touches and will be released on May 15".

Marta Jandová: "We are very happy that we are part of this event, but we are also getting nervous - some 200 million viewers will be watching us. With the Makemakes we have already met in London - Austria is true to it's recipe for success: beards and long hairs".

Producer of Czech Eurovision entry "Hope Never Dies" Ondřej Soukup has shared some of his memories regarding the preselection process in "Producer's Blog".

The truth is we Czechs don’t like Eurovision very much - which probably helps explain why Czech Television hadn’t participated in any further rounds of the competitions since 2009. Even our music and other critics write about Eurovision with disdain, not least of all because our songs have never managed to advance to the finals, a dubious honour shared only by us and Andorra. I found this combination of facts not only amusing, but naturally also discouraging. (Until, that is, I discovered that Germany, which has participated in ESC 58 times since it began, has placed not only first, second or third 13 times, but has also ended last 5 times - so why should we despair? - we have taken part in the contest only three times!)

That’s why I was extremely surprised when, at the beginning of November, I got a call from Mr. Radim Smetana from Czech Television, who asked me to help find and produce a song which will represent the Czech Republic in the 2015 ESC in Vienna. He explained that the ESC rules allow the television network to choose both the song and the artist - thus eliminating the national contest, in which the humble folk vote for their favorite artist and in which popularity is the decisive factor. Since the international voting audience doesn’t care about local popularity, and Czech viewers can’t vote for Czech artists, we decided to try to appeal to heterosexuals and agreed to go for a duet and two appealing artists - Marta Jandová and Václav "Noid" Bárta. Marta is a great Czech singer, known internationally for her collaboration with the German rock band Die Happy. "Noid" I have known since 2005, when he successfully auditioned for my musical Elixir of Life (Elixír života) and shone in the parts of the Devil and a Russian spy. Not only is he very musical, playing several musical instruments, he is attractive to the ladies to boot - in fact, our biggest pop star, Lucie Bílá, kept him for herself for some time. AND he composes.

Now we were left with the fundamental problem of the song. I immediately proclaimed that I wouldn’t compose anything since it would be rather absurd for me to choose myself. I therefore addressed approximately 10 of my composer colleagues, various publishers and recording houses. The majority of them couldn’t be bothered to write anything, despite that in my letter I had tried to convince them that even if their work wouldn’t be chosen, they would now have a song which wouldn’t otherwise exist, and with which they could subsequently do as they wished. Nonetheless, I did receive fifteen songs from Czech composers. What surprised me more, however, was that I was also offered songs from composers from other countries - mostly from England. All together I collected 28 songs, and listened to them over and over in anticipation of the selection deadline coming up on the 31st of December. Although a lot of them were truly good, none struck me as appropriate for this monster event. I pushed Vaclav Noid Barta to compose something, anything, so we wouldn’t have to hang ourselves. And so he did, but something about the song didn't sound quite right. He tried several times to rewrite it, as did I, neither of us successfully. It happens sometimes. By the 2nd of January, I was absolutely desperate. I sat down at the piano and wrote something, and although I didn't actually like it very much, even so I asked Noid to come to the studio and record a demo. Noid liked the song, I still was not sure about it… and then something amazing happened. Noid returned home and - under the influence of who knows what - wrote a song of truly high caliber. He sent me the demo at five in the morning. I listened to the song as soon as I got up, and I knew right away - this was exactly what I was looking for. I immediately sent the song to my friend Tereza - I knew she’s smart and quick and that she writes great English lyrics – and I had only one day’s time before the gentlemen from Czech TV were to come to choose the song. I asked her to drop everything and start writing lyrics.

Now all I needed was a demo, but the song is a duet, and Marta Jandová was away - so I plucked our baby from my partner Lucia’s breast (luckily she is also a singer) and along with Noid we ran to the studio. And thus was created Hope Never Dies.

The very next day I presented all 29 songs to the gentlemen from Czech TV, and all anonymously: only I knew who their authors were. The choice was narrowed to three finalists, and sent on to a six member jury in which I didn’t participate. And, as luck would have it, the jury made the choice I was hoping for – confirming - Hope Never Dies!

The shooting for the "Postcards" is in a full swing. Eurovision artists are arriving to Austria to perform tasks of all kinds, to present on the one hand their land as multifaceted as possible multifaceted and on the other hand to get to know the host country.

Czech entry and music video for it directed by Biser Arichtev are expected to be presented on March 10. Filming of the video took place today in the studio of Czech Television. "We have the story of the relationship between two people, which is undergoing through a complicated period, but they manage to find their way and it gets happy end. Preparations for the shooting took us two days, one day is the shooting itself and the post-production will take around five days. I do not regard the video so far in the context of Eurovision, but my goal is to prepare a nice visualization of a duet beautifully sang by Marta Jandová and Vaclav Barta", said the director.

Česká televize has released an interview with participants of the Eurovision Song Contest Marta Jandova and Václav Noid Bárta.

"Participation in Eurovision is a great honour for me. I hope we are able to convince people with our song and be well placed. We're both singers, who got to the current positions from the scratch through own efforts and hard work, so we are, what I would call "authentic". Perhaps Europe will appreciate that as well", says Marta. Eurovision comes on a peak of my career after solo concerts in Karlin Musical Theatre, and I am honoured that I was chosen as one of the two participants", adds Noid.

"I would say that there is no rule according to which one would win. Every year wins a completely different genre, sometimes solo singer, sometimes a group, sometimes pop, sometimes rock... It depends on the mood of the audience in a particular time sequence, something what we call "a spirit of the hour". What people are touched with most, what can enlighten them most at the particular point of time, gets to the top. Though sometimes it also depends on how they love each participating country itself", explains Marta.

Speaking about their entry "Hope Never Dies", Marta explains that it is a rock ballad which wouldn't sound typically Czech. "It is simply beautiful and the music is magical. It knows no boundaries". She adds that, of course, since they are a duet of woman and man, the song is about love. Currently, it is fully in English and they haven't yet thought on production of the Czech version of the entry.

Czech singers say they are looking forward competitors from the other countries, even if they do not consider Eurovision as the competition. "We'll probably be all nervous. Indeed, cause the whole of Europe will be watching us. So we will probably be encouraging each other backstage", says Marta. Speaking about countries competing in the second semifinal she says: "Sweden has a very strong songwriters, music of Iceland is magical, Poland loves music, so that they always come with an ace, Azerbaijan won once etc. etc. But it will all depend on the songs. Hard to say yet. Let's see...".

Preselection

On 19 November, Česká televize, the Czech national broadcaster has confirmed that Czech Republic will make it's return to the Eurovision Song Contest after a 5 year absence from the event. Earlier, Austrian organizers of the event expressed hope that running of the contest in Vienna may bring back to the competition broadcasters from Czech Republic and Slovakia, and at least half of their plans were eventually realized.

Czech Republic's act for ESC 2015 was selected in an internal selection by professional jury. Composer Ondřej Soukup became the first invited producer asked to submit three potential entries to the internal preselection. Other producers/composers have been approached to submit entries as well. "We have been going through Czech musicians basically one by one and finally figured that on an European contest like this one, nobody is going to judge based on popularity, but rather how charming and how good of a singer the contender is. There are not many people that are really worth betting your own shoes on. In this contest, each contender only has one chance that lasts three minutes", explains producer Ondrej Soukup the choice.

Experts also chose a song that duet will be performed in Vienna. Several songwriters in Czech Republic and Slovakia were addressed. "The songs we were choosing from were quite on par with each other in my opinion. However, the winning song Hope Never Dies was a candidate of mine too. It sports a peculiar and nice chorus, along with some nice and surprising modulation. And when I heard it, I figured that this song can really impress if done well," describes jury member Michael Kocáb. The jury that chose between songs, did so without knowing names of their songwriters, and only after taking the final decision it was announced that song has been written by one of it's performers: Vaclav Noid Barta.

And Noid is a charming singer, which is why I think they make a really good combination. Whole Europe will participate in this contest – I can't see a reason why it shouldn't include Czech Republic too. After all, it's about entertainment and viewers all across the Europe are really excited about it.. "

Czech Television will broadcast Eurovision final on ČT1, while semifinals will be shown on ČT art. All shows will be commented by Aleš Háma.

Любляна, Будапешт, Москва, Краков, Белград, Бухарест и Прага - все эти города посетили участники группы The Makemakes по приглашению мэрии города Вены и ее представительств за последние семь недель. Вчера, во вторник, 5 мая они побывали вместе с представителем городского собрания Вены Кристианом Оксоничем и исполнительным продюсером Евровидения Эдгаром Бёмом в столице Чехии. На пресс-конференции также произошла новая встреча уже знакомых по вечеринке в Лондоне артистов - представителей Австрии и представителей Чехии Марты Яндовой и Вацлава Ноида Барты. Во время вечернего приема в Fashion Club Прага они представили вниманию собравшихся свои конкурсные песни. В конце пресс-конференции появился неожиданный гость: Карел Готт, представлявший Австрию на Евровидении 1968, который пожелал удачи участникам шоу.

Презентация чешской песни и видеоклипа на него, снятого режиссером Бисером Аричтевым, пройдет 10го марта. Съемки клипа прошли сегодня в студии Чешского телевидения. "Мы имеем историю отношений между двумя людьми, которые проходят через сложный период, но в конце-концов им удается найти правильный путь и все завершается хэппи-эндом. Česká televize взяло короткое интервью у участников конкурса Евровидение Марты Яндовой и Вацлава Ноида Барты.

"Участие в Евровидении для меня - большая честь. Я надеюсь, что мы сможем убедить публику нашей песней и занять хорошее место. Мы оба - исполнители, добившиеся нынешней позиции в своей карьере с нуля, благодаря своим усилиям и тяжелой работе, поэтому, мы то, что я могу назвать "аутентичные". Рассказывая о своей песне "Hope Never Dies", Марта говорит, что это - рок-баллада, которая не несет в себе типично чешского звучания. "Это просто очень красивая песня с волшебной музыкой. Музыкой, которая не знает границ". Она добавляет, что, поскольку песню исполняет дуэт мужчины и женщины, конечно же, она о любви. Национальный отбор

19го ноября Ceska Televize, национальный вещатель, подтвердил, что Чехия вернется на конкурс Евровидение после пятилетнего отсутствия на нем. Ранее, организаторы конкурса в Австрии высказывали свою надежду о том, что проведение конкурса в Вене позволит вернуться на конкурс вещателям из Чехии и Словакии, и, по-меньшей мере, половину плана удалось в итоге реализовать.

Исполнители, которые представят Чехию на Евровидении 2015 были выбраны внутренним отбором, решением профессионального жюри. Продюсер Ондржей Сокуп стал первым, приглашенным подать три песни на рассмотрение в рамках внутреннего отбора. К участию были приглашены и другие продюсеры и композиторы. "Мы рассматривали практически одного за другим кандидатуры чешских музыкантов, и пришли к выводу, что на подобном Европейском конкурсе, никто не будет оценивать исполнителей по уровню популярности в своих странах, а скорее по уровню харизмы и исполнительного мастерства. У нас не так много исполнителей, на которых можно было бы сделать ставку. В данном конкурсе у каждого участника есть только один шанс, который длится всего три минуты", объясняет выбор продюсер Ондрей Сокуп.

Эксперты также выбрали и композицию, которую дуэт исполнит в Вене. Подать заявки были приглашены несколько авторов из Чехии и Словакии. "Песни, которые мы рассматривали, были примерно одного уровня.
