Franka is very excited about her participation in Eurovision: "When I was two years old, I was standing in front of our TV set, holding a remote control instead of a microphone, singing the lyrics of Tony Cetinski's, Nek' ti bude ljubav sva from Eurovision 1994. That girl never stopped dreaming and now the dream is coming true! I would like to thank the Croatian Radio and Television for their invitation and expressing their confidence in me. My team and I are aware of the responsibilities that participating in Eurovision brings, we are ready for the challenge and we will do our very best to represent Croatia in the best possible way in Portugal in May."

"You all know that kind of love. It hits you like a thunder and doesn't seem to let you go. The unconventional, unusual, unique kind of love taking over our bodies, our hearts. You all know that feeling when you're not sure if it's all real, or if it's just a product of your imagination. And that's what makes love so fantastic, so extraordinary. You can try to explain it but the truth is, there are no rules in love, love is a beautiful mystery"

Franka and her music team recorded Crazy midnight session accoustic version. It was made by Franka, two back vocals Martina Ivankovic and Djordjia Palic, bass Branimir Mihaljevic, his son Marko and Ante Gelo guitars. Tonka Javorovic adds even more magic on her cello. It is recorded in Ante Gelo studio basement and produced by Branimir Mihaljevic.

„It was so much fun recording the acoustic, jazzy version of Crazy, with such talented musicians. We were jamming until 2 in the morning, to get this kind of a misty, bluesy bar vibe. I love mixing up styles, and usually the best things come from improvising! That’s exactly what we did that night“, said Franka.

Franka's team for Lisbon has been revealed. She will be accompanied by backing vocals by Đorđija Palić and Martina Ivanković, and with the team is working vocal coach, famous Croatian name Ivana Husar. In charge of choreography is Igor Barberić, styling will be in charge of Jasenka Tudor Bevanda, while the dress for performance in Lisbon will design duo Vjeko Franetović and Nikica Ivančević. Zvonimir Franić will take care of the hairstyle, and Kristina Hosnjak of a make-up.

Croatian representative Franka revealed her favourite Eurovision song - Marco Mengoni's "L'essenziale" - by posting an acoustic version of the song. In a touching message titled "Recording midnight lullabies", Franka revealed: "I remember watching Marco’s performance with my dad and how we were both blown away and inspired by his elegance and an interpretation both bold, powerful and simple at the same time. In that moment I knew - if I ever had the chance to stand on that Eurovision stage, that would be the way I would do it."

Franka said that she gets goosebumps everytime she hears or plays this melody. "It’s crazy how a song can trigger so many emotions and bring back memories. That’s the power of music and why I love doing what I’m doing so much.".

"And now, 5 years later, I'm here. And I know my dad would've been proud beyond words. So, I'll do my best and do it OUR way, how we always dreamed of doing it", she wrote and finished her story with a message to Marco Mergoni: "@marcomengoni you're incredible and I hope you're gonna like my performance in Lisbon as much as I liked yours! Saluti da Croazia!".

Famous Croatian TV and radio presenter Dalibor Petko hosted Franka in his show "Dalibor Petko Show" and challenged her to sing live some popular Eurovision songs: Fairytale, Euphoria, Molitva, Hard Rock Hallelujah and Rock Me Baby.

Songwriters of "Crazy" by Franka Branimir Mihaljevic and Denis Mevlja have issued statements regarding the accusations by Romanian singer Guez.

Branimir Mihaljevic: "Following the speculations about the song "Crazy and plagiarism allegations, I feel obliged to clarify the situation. The whole song is the product of our work only, and as I have previously mentioned, I’ve worked on the production of the song “Crazy” together with my colleague Denis Mevlja, also known as Denzel Beats or Denz. For the past two days we have been working intensively to find out how this situation emerged and how it all happened. Finally we found out that Denis Mevlja, who makes and sells beats online for a living, uploaded a wrong file on the online store site by mistake, uploading the stems for our Eurovision song “Crazy” under another name, evidently without my approval as a co-writer. The song "Crazy" was made exclusively and entirely for the Eurovision song contest and this situation never should’ve happened.

It is unquestionable that Guez bought the song "Blame me" with a very restricted license, but I must also point out that the Romanian musician has violated two articles regarding the purchase of the instrumental track from Denzel Beats, taking actions which he had no right to take according to the contract. Finally, I want to thank HRT for understanding and for your support"

Denis Mevlja: "I can’t express how sorry I am that Franka became a victim of my negligence and clumsiness in an event she didn’t know about and understandably, she was completely shocked. We’ve been working all together on this song for months and one moment of my ignorance impacted all the good work we’ve done, and all the positive energy around our song. I know that Franka will still give it her all on that Eurovision stage, because I felt it since the first day we started working on the song"

Romanian performer Guez has responded in a tough manner to the statement of the management of the Croatian singer Franka.

According to the screenshots, published by Guez, on 11 January he has approached producer Denzel Beats to purchase "exclusive rights" for the beat: "The Weeknd Type Beat - Blame Me - 2018 | Rnb/Pop". The beat was published on Beatstars.com - currently this page is inactive. Beat was also published on 3 January 2018 on Youtube - and also subsequently deleted.

Next screenshot confirms than on 12 January Romanian artist made a payment of 79.99 USD to purchase "premium" version of the track, and he got the download links.

Screenshots do not provide response from Denzel Beats producer, so it is unknown for sure on which conditions the beat was purchased. However, the regular conditions of Denzel Beat's beats purchase on a "premium" category allow distribution in an amount of 8000 copies, unlimited free downloads, free and commercial performances, use in 1 music video, 800 thousands audio and video streams, use on 2 radio stations. It means that the beat was not purchased with "exclusive rights".

It is interesting that all tracks in "track stem" available for purchase on Beatstars are titled "franka" - which obviously proves that they have been written for Franka. It is however unclear how the track ended up in an open sale.

Management of the singer Franka has responded to plagiarims allegations stating it is same producer Denis Mevlja behind both compositions. It was not however clarified how the instrumental of the Croatian entry got to the hands of Romanian singer, who eventually has released his version earlier than the release of Croatia.

"The song Crazy is the product of the work of Karpo media group, and alongside Branimir Mihaljević, the song was produced by Denis Mevlja (also known as Denzel beats), while the lyrics and the vocal arrangements were written by Franka herself. The team started working on the song intensively in December, together with Croatian radiotelevision (HRT).

The artist who used the Crazy instrumental version as the track for his song signed Denzel Beats (Denis Mevlja) as the author of the instrumental. Both the karaoke and the instrumental versions of the song are available online to download on every music platform, so we are looking forward to hearing some cool, new, ‘crazy’ covers. See you in Portugal!

Romanian singer Guez has accused the representative of Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 Franka and songwriter of her entry "Crazy" Branimir Mihaljevic in a plagiarism of his track "Ceea ce iubim".

The composition of the Romanian artist was published on the official channel of the Royal House Entertainment label on Youtube on February 24, a week and a half before the official presentation of the Croatian entry. The description of the video claims that the copyrights for the song have been registered as early as in 2017, but this is not confirmed by any other source.

At the same time, it is obvious that the instrumental part of the song "Ceea ce iubim" is completely identical to the Eurovision entry of Franka from Croatia, official presentation of which was held on March 6. Franka was announced as the representative of Croatia with the song "Crazy" on February 13, and the teaser of the song was published on February 26.

It should be noted that the Romanian singer replaced in the last couple of days on the Youtube channel the information about the composer of his song. Previously, as the author of the instrumental was specified Guez himself, and currently instead of him there is mentioned a certain Denzel Beats. Recall that the composer of the song "Crazy" is Branimir Mihaljevic.

For the first time the Romanian singer spoke about possible plagiarism back on 18 March, but then these accusations were not widely noticed.

"I want to tell you all that today I really went down in history, see you in a few days," the Romanian artist wrote today, when information about "plagiarism" began to spread through the media

At the moment it is unclear how the instrumental of the Croatian entry has ended in the hands of the Romanian performer, however, it is obvious that it is most likely not the case of plagiarism - too short time has passed between the presentations of the two songs. Representatives of the EBU or the Croatian broadcaster have not yet commented on this situation.

Franka, who represents Croatia and Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) at the Eurovision Song Contest this May with her song Crazy, is currently filming a Eurovision preview postcard at the Portuguese village of Talasnal, located some two hundred kilometres from Lisbon. Talasnal was chosen as the place of filming by the Portuguese public broadcaster RTP and the Portuguese National Tourist Board. It is a charming schist-built village in a region known for active tourism, delicious food and excellent wine. This Eurovision preview postcard will introduce Franka to the audience before her stage appearance on 8 May. “I love traveling and the filming of this postcard took me to this beautiful region, which I and my wonderful crew are really enjoying. We laugh a lot, but we’re also doing a good job. I hope the postcard will make the audience feel the positive energy which drives us. This region was completely unknown to me and I had never visited it before, yet I feel incredibly connected to this place; this village on the hill reminds me in many ways of my home region of Istria”, said HRT’s Eurovision representative Franka.

In the days before filming this preview postcard, the Croatian Eurovision representative was an announcer at the Porin music awards ceremony, made an appearance at the Večernjakova ruža media awards, and performed with the famous singer Željko Bebek on his tour. In many interviews she talked about the details of her Eurovision appearance and among the interviews for the foreign she disclosed some details about the preparations and the plans for her stage performance. With a clear vision of the performance, choreography, costume and other details, the emphasis will be put on creating a magical atmosphere.

Croatian artist Marko Barišić has presented the largest drawing of his "Black Series" - "Crazy" art - the white pastel and chalk on black paper drawing, size 70x100 cm.

Marko Barišić is a self-taught artist living in northern Bosnia. From a young age, Marko was fascinated by realistic art. He wanted his art to portray exactly what he saw in reality. Each of his drawings is unique, driven by Marko’s deep conviction that the best art is not mass-produced. However, if buyers wish to reproduce a particular design more widely themselves, Marko is also open to that possibility. He enjoys the freedom at this stage of his career to experiment with other media outside his usual style, such as black pen sketches (scribbles), watercolors, and color splash.

The popular singer also appeared in HRT's third edition of Dnevnik and revealed more details about her preparations for Eurovision.

"The song is finally out! It's unusual, magical, mystic, powerful and kind of crazy. I'm sure the audience will like it and that they will enjoy listening to it, just as much as we did working on it in the past three months! I am particularly proud that we sent the song to London's Metropolis Studio for final processing. It was mixed by Paul Norris, Grammy award winner for his work on Rihanna's Unapologetic album, who also worked on Ed Sheeran's X album and songs by the Black Eyed Peas, David Guetta, Jessie J, Alicia Keys and many others. Crazy was mastered by one of the most renowned engineers in Europe, Tim Young, well-known for his work on multiplatinum albums by The Clash, Sade, Elton John, The Smiths," said Franka in tonight's third edition of HRT's Dnevnik news program

"When you get a great team together, when the idea for the video is attractive and interesting, it wasn't hard for anyone, including me, to work for even 22 hours straight, take a short break and swim in the pool and shoot again the next evening! I'm sure viewers will feel the positive energy we've put into our work. More than 30 people were involved in the team working on the video and I want to thank everyone for their professionalism and the great job they did. Imagine what it must've been like to paint and stylize ten dancers so they look and dance great," added Franka.

Music for the song Crazy was written by Branimir Mihaljević and the lyrics and music sequences by Franka. The video was directed by Sandra Mihaljević and Igor Ivanović, Igor Barberić was in charge of the choreography, Jasenka Tudor Bevanda did the styling, costumes were made by Hippy Garden, makeup is by Kristina Hošnjak, mask by BrushBar and hair by Salon Franić. The video was shot at the Zorin dom theatre in Karlovac and Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Zagreb.

"We pondered for a long time how to convey the madness of love in a three-minute video clip. The truth is, there were many creative ideas by the whole team, but again it all fell into place somehow and again, just like the song, the video story found us," said Franka's manager Siniša Bevanda after her guest appearance on Croatian Radio and Television.

The official video for the song Crazy with which Franka will represent Croatian Radio and Television and the Republic of Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal in May will also be featured in today's edition of the Good Morning, Croatia mosaic show. 06/03: Music video for Croatian entry presented

In its central Dnevnik news program tonight, Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) will exclusively present parts of the official video for the song Crazy with which Franka Batelić will represent the HRT and the Republic of Croatia at the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal in May of this year.

An interview with Franka Batelić will follow in Dnevnik's third edition where the popular singer will reveal more details about her preparations for Eurovision. The official video will also be featured in tomorrow's edition of the Good Morning, Croatia mosaic show and on HRT's website hrt.hr and eurosong.hrt.hr subdomain.

Franka Batelić will also be making guest appearances tomorrow on Croatian Radio's Channel Two (HRT – HR 2) and on HRT's local radio stations. The release of the official video will follow less than a week after the teaser for Croatia's Eurovision entry was presented to the Croatian public. Franka Batelić wrote the lyrics herself and the music is by Branimir Mihaljević. Young Denis Mevlja had a big role in the making of the song, and mixing was done in London's Metropolis Studio where stars like Adele, Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey and many others had worked. The final processing of the song was done by London's legendary Abbey Road Studio.

Information on all the details, points of interest and Franka Batelić's preparations for her performance at the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest will also be regularly published on the HRT's hrt.hr website and eurosong.hrt.hr subdomain, and the HRT's Facebook profiles.

Part of the song Crazy with which Franka will represent Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) and the Republic of Croatia at the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest to be held in May in Portugal was presented today on the HRT's official website. The popular singer wrote the lyrics herself and the music is by Branimir Mihaljević.

"We came up with the song unexpectedly. We were recording the three songs we were going to propose for Eurovision in the studio and this one just crept up suddenly. Branimir started playing it on the piano, I started humming the lyrics and that's how Crazy came about. We picked it up right away because it's unusual and unexpected. It's powerful, emotional, strong, modern and production is great. I hope the audience will love it," said Franka.

"Franka has all the qualities of a true world star and we did our best to make a world song, keeping up with the current trends, but at the same time creating a completely new sound and original atmosphere. Young Denis Mevlja had a big role in the making of the song, and mixing was done in London's Metropolis Studio by the people who had created the sound of Adele, Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey and many others. The final processing of the song will be done by London's legendary Abbey Road Studio. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised when you hear the song,” said Branimir Mihaljević. Franka's manager Siniša Bevanda revealed some details about the concept of her performance. “We want a beautiful and impressive performance, but we won't be doing anything very spectacular. We have some interesting ideas and this is the most intensive period for us because the whole concept must be worked out. From the video clip and costume design to the performance. We got some valuable advice from recognized professionals and colleagues with whom we had worked in Zagreb when Franka was the opening act for Beyoncé, so that means a lot to us," noted Siniša Bevanda.

The Head of the HRT's Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) Team, Tomislav Štengl, is convinced that Franka will continue the sequence of success the HRT and Croatia have achieved in the past two years. "Nina Kraljić made it to the final, and brilliant Jacques Houdek ranked very highly last year according to the audience votes. He was thirteenth in the end, which is a great result among the 42 participating countries. We think Franka can also fulfill our basic goal of making it to the final, and once you get to the final – all is open," said Tomislav Štengl.

Preselection

On 21 September Mayor of Opatija Ivo Dujmić has mentioned negotiations of the return of "Dana HRT-a" (HRT Days) in Opatija from 14 to 18 February, which may include Eurovision preselection "Dora".

Return of "Dora" was backed by several names of Croatian music industry. Among them, Siniša Škarica, a longtime music editor and producer of Croatia Records, says "I think it is better to organize something that will suit the audience who likes popular and entertaining music". He claims that Dora could bring up new voices and showcase a greater range of performers and offerings. Croatian Society of Composers will also welcome every change that will democratize the way of song selection, which implies opening some kind of competition, a large number of entries, a jury or a public vote.

After six years of break, HRT will be returning to the national preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest - Dora, on 24 November reported newspaper Jutarnji list based on its informal information. Dora will definitely be held at the end of February or early March, but it is not yet certain whether the event will be held in Crystal Hall of the Kvarner Hotel in Opatija, where it often took place since 1993, or at the studio in Zagreb, Anton Marti. "Everyone would like to respect tradition so that Dora returns to Opatija, but we have to be aware that it costs a lot. Dora in Opatija will cost almost five times more than in Zagreb, but we also know that Dora in Opatija will give that inevitable accompaniment to the music festivities. Where will the Dora take place, we will know at the latest by mid-January", said the source of newspaper. Soon there will be announced a contest for interested songwriters and performers to apply to the festival. It is planned that Dora will have one semifinal and the final evening, and songs will be judged by the jury and the audience.

On 14 December, however, it was revealed that Opatija will not host Croatian preselection "Dora" next year - this was reported by Opatija mayor Ivo Dujmić at the session of the City Counci. "We were all very pleased to hear the news that HRT could return to Opatija, and they did a whole study about HRT Days that would last for a full week, and would be broadcast on TV. We had, on our side, met all the conditions in order for Dora to come to Opatija. Given HRT's poor financial situation, Opatija was prepared to make all its resources available and we immediately signed the proposal. The Tourist Board and the hoteliers expressed their interest and desire to help with the accommodation capacities, "said Dujmic, adding that eventually HRT decided to drop out of the project.

"All we were asked for was fulfilled, but unfortunately two days ago, a letter from HRT arrived that they could not realize that project in Opatija because of the financial difficulties they encountered, despite the fact that we have agreed to provide all necessary support. That, however, was not enough and they would most likely do it in their Zagreb studio," Opatija mayor is quoted by Fiuman.hr

On 24 January Croatian broadcaster HRT has released first hint on the internally chosen performer (or rather performers?)

Rock Me Baby.
