Hotels

The Tel Aviv Municipality presents a creative solution for hosting the tens of thousands of tourists expected to come to Israel to participate in the 2019 Eurovision. As Tel Aviv has only around 8,000 hotel rooms plus an additional 3,000 in nearby suburbs, the city is planning to offer additional accommodation on boats by the city's seashore. Agreement with the first Italian cruise ship is in discussion, which will provide 500 rooms, which can accommodate up to 4 people each, 1,700 in total, priced around 50 USD per night including three meals. The cruising boats will have their own parties and celebrations on board with fireworks. For fans who want to celebrate in the city, shuttle ferries will be available to Jaffa Port and Tel Aviv Marina at regular intervals.

Transport

Get to Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv's (and Israel's) main entry point for the international traveller is Ben Gurion International Airport. It is located 15 km away from the city in the town of Lod. A further 20 min drive is needed to get to Tel Aviv. This trip can be done by train, bus or taxi from Ben Gurion airport.

Note, on Shabbat you will have a hard time reaching/leaving the airport, especially taking the bus. Trains also do not operate on the Jewish Shabbat (approximately from 16:36 on Friday to 21:15 on Saturday). Taxis go however, but might charge you extra due to Shabbat time. Best not to have a flight between Friday 15:00 and Saturday 20:00 into/from Israel.

The airport train station is easily accessible from Level G in Terminal 3, same level as Arrivals - when you get out of the gate just walk left and follow signs. Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 of the airport are connected with free internal bus service. Direct trips to Tel Aviv take about 15 min and cost about NIS 13.50 one-way. Buy a ticket from the cashier or from an automatic machine, and use it to enter the platform area. Keep the ticket for use to exit the electronic gate at your arrival station. The train service operates around the clock on weekdays, with 3 trains per hour most of the day (they leave at :05 and :35) and one per hour at night. Trains to the stations in the center of Tel Aviv leave from platform 2, heading for Nahariya. All trains stop at all four Tel Aviv stations during the day, while late night trains stop only at Tel Aviv Merkaz/Savidor station. The stations are, in order of arrival from the airport (south to north): Tel Aviv HaHagana (near the central bus station) (8 min travel), Tel Aviv HaShalom (near the Azrieli Center shopping mall) (13 min), Tel Aviv Merkaz/Savidor (Central Railway Station) (18 min), Tel Aviv University (next to the Eurovision venue: Tel Aviv EXPO) (25 min). For most travelers, HaShalom or Merkaz/Savidor would be the place to disembark, being close to most hotels and sights.

Due to the construction works, all trains on Friday are replaced by Free Shuttle bus service From Ben Gurion Airport to the Tel Aviv Savidor Central Station, via Tel Aviv Hahagana Station, operating from 00:50 to 17:15. The Tel Aviv - HaShalom Train Station will be completely closed on Fridays. Train service resumes only at 21:27 on Saturday.

Taxis is the most comfortable and expensive way to reach the city center, with a typical ride price of around 140 to 175 NIS (the higher fare applies at night time until 5:30am, an additional surcharge applies for each suitcase and a third passenger). Taxis are required by law to use the taxi meter, and a typical ride to the city center should not take more than 20-30 min, without heavy traffic. Do not accept fix-priced rides with taxi drivers unless you're sure of what you are doing; you will usually end up paying more than you could have had you asked to use the meter. You should notify your taxi driver in advance if you'd like to pay by credit card. At the airport, you can order a taxi on the street at the exit from the Terminal at a regular price, or at a taxi station on one of the floors of the parking lot - where the prices are at a discount, but you have to search for it with the luggage, which is not always convenient. An alternative to airport taxis are taxi hailing apps such as Gett and Raxi, however you may end up waiting longer and paying the same. Taxis called through the app can take passengers only at another special parking lot.

From April 2019, The Kavim bus company has started running route 445 between Ben Gurion airport and the Reading Terminal in Tel Aviv (near the port). The bus will run hourly round the clock starting at 4 am on Sunday morning and through 4 pm on Fridays and then again from 9 pm on Saturday night. Buses leave Reading Terminal / Terminal 3 in Ben Guryon every round hour and arrive at their destination roughly one hour later. The bus stops at El Al Junction, LaGuardia interchange, Tel Aviv old central bus station, Yehuda Halevi/Allenby, several stops on Ben-Yehuda street, ending at the Reading terminal. Fare is 9.40 NIS, and one can pay with cash.

Tel Aviv has a modern, regular, cheap and widespread bus network run mostly by Dan. Bus services start at 05:00 and stop at midnight, though some lines stop earlier, so do check. There are night buses that run until 3:30 (Thursday and Saturday nights all year, and in addition Sunday to Wednesday nights during the summer). Suburban lines are operated by Dan, Egged, Metropoline and Kavim. Note that the majority of public transportation in Israel does not run on the Sabbath, beginning on Friday afternoon until Saturday evening.

Single tickets within the city and the close suburbs (Bat Yam, Holon, Ramat Gan, Bney Brak, Givatayim, Petah Tikva, Kiryat Ono) cost NIS 5.90. Rides to northern suburbs (Herzliya, Ramat Hasharon, Kfar Saba, Ra'anana) cost NIS 9.30. Note that as of December 2018, cash payments in buses in Tel-Aviv will be phasing out.

Instead of paying cash, one would need buy a public transit smart card called Rav-Kav. This card can serve as an e-wallet, offering a 25% discount on the bus fare. You can charge it with NIS 30/ NIS 50/ NIS 100, and receive 37.50/ 62.50/ 125. In addition, paying with a Rav-Kav allows you free transfers within the Tel-Aviv metropolitan area for 90 minutes. Alternately, you can use the card to buy a day-pass (calendar day) for NIS 13.50, a 7 day pass for NIS 64 or a monthly pass (calendar month) for NIS 213. If purchased at a train station, you can buy a flexible 30-day pass. If you buy a daily, weekly or a monthly pass for the appropriate metropolitan area transport zones, the pass is valid for both bus and train travel within these included zones. E.g. in Tel-Aviv if you get a day or week pass that covers both Zone 1 and Zone 2 (Gush-Dan Extended, sharing symbol 142), you can use it for unlimited travel on buses and between all train stations that are included in those zones as long as your day or week pass is valid.

An 'Anonymous' Rav-Kav can be purchased at the Al Hakav service points, central bus and train stations, or sometimes directly from the bus driver for NIS 5, but the stock with drivers usually is limited. In May a limited Eurovision edition of these cards will be issued in a print of 25,000. There is a new Rav-Kav service center by the Ministry of Transport (Public Transportation Information Center) at the arrival hall of Ben Gurion Airport, Terminal 3. The center is active, Sunday through Thursday from 07:00 to 23:00, and on Fridays between 07:00 and 15:00. Next to it is located a Rav-Kav machine where one should be able to buy and load a Rav-Kav card outside the center's opening hours. Similar center is also at Ben Gurion Railway Station.

The card can be recharged in the above mentioned terminals, in special machines, which are yet not so many, as well as in street kiosks, Super-Pharm stores, Cofix cafeterias and Tel-O-Fun bycycle rental stations - map. Also it is possible to do with the convenience of your NFC-enabled Android smartphone, with the official Rav-kav app. For more information on the Rav-Kav and pricing, see here. Several mobile apps will prove helpful for planning your commute, offering real time data and a trip planner. Moovit, EfoBus and Google Maps are some that you should consider.

One can get personal card at Al Hakav service points. Make sure to bring a valid I.D.card. Tourists are not entitled to personal discounts on a personal Rav-Kav such as for senior citizens, so the only difference is that you save NIS 5, but loose some time at the stand.

On March 24, a special Rav-Kav ISRAEL PASS card was presented. The card provides about 20% discount on visits to national parks and nature reserves in Israel. You can purchase it at the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety booth in the arrivals hall, ground floor, Terminal 3 for 83 (visiting three parks) or 115 shekels (six parks). In the future, this card will offer additional discounts for tourists. Also, daily and weekly travel passes will be 10% cheaper with it. Information about the work of public transport in Israel in English can be obtained by calling *8787 with addition of 2.

The most popular bus route in the city is bus number 5, which connects the Central Bus Station (departure from 4th floor, westernmost platform) in the south with the Central Train Station. It goes through Rotschild Boulevards, Dizengof Street (Including the Dizengof Center Mall), Nordau Boulevard, Pinkas/Yehuda Maccabi Street and Weizman Street or Namir Road. The number 4 bus is also convenient. It runs north from the Central Bus station through Allenby road and Ben Yehoda street. Another popular bus route is number 18, connecting the Central Train Station with the southern neighbourhoods of Jaffa and Bat-Yam. It also has a stop at Rabin Square. Route 100 is a tourist-oriented route which passes by tourist sites all across Tel Aviv. It begins its route on the hour Su-Th 09:00-16:00, F 09:00-13:00, does not run Saturday). Other than these lines, Tel Aviv has more than 400 Intra-city lines. Many buses start/finish their ride at the CBS or the 2000 terminal ("Arlozorov terminal"). Most buses are suburban buses and drive to adjacent cities where they finish their ride. Other important terminals are Reading terminal, Carmelit terminal and to a lesser extent Atidim terminal, Ezorei-Hen terminal, University train station terminal and Kiryat Hinukh Terminal.

During the Eurovision weekend, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality will offer free shuttles to Expo Tel Aviv. Two shuttles will pick up ticket holders at the Carmelit Terminal and take them to the Expo along two main routes. At the end of the show, buses will be waiting for ticket holders and will bring them back to their hotels. Find the details here. The information regarding the shuttles will be available in English at all stations and on board all buses.

In recent months, the Municipality has been working hard in order to create a perfect experience for tourists: The railway system will be reinforced, and will let visitors get off at the Tel Aviv University station near the Expo. In addition, tourist information centers will be placed 24/7 at Ben Gurion International Airport and at Savidor Central Train Station. A new public transportation map will be distributed, a free pocket guide for tourists and a brand new website will include all the info tourists may need. Information signs in English will be placed on the 500 main bus stops in the city. Hundreds of volunteers were recruited to assist tourists during the Eurovision week.

The Sherut Taxis - yellow minibuses run on bus routes 4 and 5 (but these taxis don't reach the train station), 16, 51 and 66. 4 goes from Tel Aviv Central Bus Station through Allenby and Ben Yehuda Streets all the way up to Tel Aviv harbor. 5 goes from Tel Aviv Central Bus Station through Rothschild Blvd, Dizengoff Center and Dizengoff St. up to Weitzman St. For the Eurovision week, taxis on line 4 will extend their routes and reach the venue of the contest. They cost about the same as the bus (NIS 7 on regular day; on Shabbat more expensive), and they run on the Shabbat too. They may not stop unless you flag them down, which you can do anywhere along their route - not just at a bus stop. You pay when you have found your seat, by passing the fare to the person in front of you who will pass it along to the driver. You must tell the driver when you want him to stop. Passengers are not allowed to stand.

When traveling by train you should buy a ticket at the box office or in the ticket machine. Machines operate in English and Hebrew. Choose the destination station, the age of the passenger (retired/child/adult) and the number of tickets. The machines accept all major bank cards for the payment without additional fees. Online tickets can be purchased only by holders of personalized Rav-Kav cards. The ticket must be kept until the end of the trip. The exit from the station is possible only with a valid ticket, which must be inserted into the turnstile upon exit. Please note that at the entrance to each station there is a security control.

You can hail a taxi in the street or call one (with extra surcharge NIS 3.30). Taxis are obliged to give you a metered ride unless you settle for a price, so insist that the driver use the meter, unless you are sure what the price to your destination should be. A local ride without meter should be NIS 20-30 in the downtown core, and up to 50 or 60 to the immediate suburbs. Cutting a deal in advance is especially recommended on Friday night and Saturday, when there is a surcharge. Plus, if you get stuck in Tel Aviv's notorious traffic, you won't sit there watching your money tick away.

At the meantime, The Tel Aviv Municipality has also presented branded Eurovision tour bus of Dan company. The branded bus will be displayed at the international tourism fair IMTM, which will be held this week at the Tel Aviv Expo. During the Eurovision days it will serve specific tourist routes.

Logo and Theme Art

On 8 January, the EBU and Israeli Host Broadcaster KAN have unveiled this year's artwork; three triangles which, when united, shine together to create a golden star. Revealing the concept behind the logo, Israeli Host Broadcaster KAN said: "The triangle, one of the world's oldest shapes, is a cornerstone symbol found universally in art, music, cosmology and nature, representing connection and creativity. As the triangles join and combine, they become a new single entity reflecting the infinite stellar sky, as the stars of the future come together in Tel Aviv for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, explained upon revealing the icon.

This year's logo takes inspiration from Florian Wieder's stage design, whose concept uses triangular shapes and structures. The slogan and logo have been created by two leading Israeli branding agencies; Awesome Tel Aviv who developed the creative concept, and Studio Adam Feinberg (ST/AF) who created the logo.

Apart from the main icon, two alternative versions have been designed. The primary logo colour is the blue version and will be used in most cases. All logos will be used in a variety of ways running up to the two Semi-Finals and the Grand Final, including being displayed throughout the city of Tel Aviv in May.

Jon Ola Sand, the EBU's Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, said: "We are delighted with the logo accompanying KAN's slogan for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest - Dare to Dream – which perfectly complements the fantastic angular stage design created by Florian Wieder. We hope the creative theme for this year's competition inspires the 42 contestants coming together in Tel Aviv in May, as they dream of becoming the stars of the future"

On 28 October, the slogan of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv has been revealed: Dare to Dream. The slogan was announced by Jon Ola Sand, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, who also explained the creative narrative behind it, after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss details of next year's event.

"This aspirational tag line represents and symbolises everything that the Eurovision Song Contest is about. It's about inclusion. It's about diversity. It's about unity," Jon Ola Sand said during the announcement in Tel Aviv. "Being on that stage, daring to dream you can win the Eurovision Song Contest, be brave enough, be confident enough, standing there performing for a world audience is something that is worth the dream. This is what Netta did last year, when she performed in Lisbon. She went on that stage with a dream — a dream to bring the Eurovision Song Contest back to Israel. And she succeeded. And next year in May, in Tel Aviv, we will all meet to celebrate the good values of the Eurovision Song Contest and we will do it here, with the help of broadcaster KAN and the Israel team, he concluded.

German designer Florian Wieder was once again chosen to work on the Eurovision 2019 stage according to the news site Walla. Wieder triumphed over the Israeli designer Maya Hanoch and her partner Avi Fahima. Hanoch designed the stage of the previous Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem in 1999, and also designed with Fahima the stages of "Kochav Nolad", "HaKokhav HaBa" and other popular TV shows in Israel. Initially seven candidates had submitted their application and they were later shortlisted to two — the Israeli design company Forma Studio (headed by Maya Hanoch) and Wieder Design. Both of the leading candidates were required to submit an amended offer to the EBU and KAN.

"We are very disappointed with this decision," Hanoch told Walla "We have been told in the past few days that there was a serious dilemma between our design and Florian's design, and we were told that the two designs are excellent, and we thought that if these two designs were the best, as a consideration of national pride, the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv has to be shaped by Israelis.".

The highly esteemed and successful designer Wieder designed the Eurovision Song Contest at the Lisbon this year, as well as competitions in 2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011. In addition, he designed the scenes of the UK's "The X Factor", "Got Talent", both American and British versions of "Idol", some of the MTV Music Award ceremonies, and also designed "The Voice" in Israel.

Reportedly, the main theme chosen by Wieder for the design will be a Star of David. According to the publication in Yedioth Ahronoth, the design is expected to include two moving triangles creating a Star of David, symbolizing Judaism and the state of Israel.

After it was decided that Tel Aviv would host the Eurovision Song Contest at the Exhibition Grounds on May 14, 16 and 18, most of the production efforts have centered around the stage, which many believe determine the success of the entire event. With all due respect to the few thousands who will be in the competition hall, the main goal is to impress the hundreds of millions of viewers throughout Europe, and therefore aim to create grandiose and spectacular stage. In the late September, broadcaster KAN has invited leading Israeli and international stage designers to participate in the closed tender, reports Israel Hayom. It is believed, that if two best bids are at the same level, local designers may get preference, but in the case a good offer comes from abroad, patriotism will be set aside for a moment, and foreign company will be hired.
"In any case a team of designers from different fields is needed," says Ronen Levin, co-owner of the studio of design and architecture Levin-Apteker and who designed with Maya Hanoch the 1999 Eurovision set "There are very talented people in Israel, but cooperation with international designers can always be fruitful and enriching."

Source in production of the event stated: "This year, in Portugal there were no LED screens, and that greatly reduced the direction possibilities, and focused them on lighting games and a bit of pyrotechnics, and the songs looked a bit similar. There is general agreement in Europe that the stage this year was less strong," says the source. "We in Israel are good on television and we can put on a much more impressive stage.". In any case, it is customary to design the stage with characteristics related to the country in which the competition takes place. According to the tender documents, Israel wants to focus on "tolerance, progress and unity, which characterize Israel."

"Israel is an advanced and modern state, which on the one hand represents globalization and on the other, our interpersonal ties and connections to ourselves and to our friends, we love to be together, to feel integrated and united. Israel is a country of diversity, a society of many colors, multiculturalism, respect and tolerance, it has heritage and tradition, but also innovation and modernity - views that fit the values of the Eurovision contest and what it represents" And there is also an important message to Europe: "We, here in Israel, invite everyone to celebrate the desire and the willingness to get closer to each other and to be united, and we are able to do it better together."

The first section of the tender speaks of the design of the stage: "A unique, innovative, innovative and groundbreaking design that will create a unique atmosphere that will fit the Eurovision brand values". Source in the production adds that a good stage is measured by the fact that it can look different in each song. "Our main challenge is that the stage will be sufficiently versatile - say, a song that opens against the background of the audience, a song that opens from the center of the stage, etc. There are as many alternatives as possible, so each song will look different from the previous one. Israeli stage should look technologically advanced"

Tender makes it clear, that organizers want to keep parade of artists, who will arrive on stage from different directions, similar to the Eurovision of 2016 and 2017.

Pavilion 2 at the Exhibition Grounds, where the competition itself will be held, was renovated three years ago at a cost of NIS 400 million and will be available for production since mid-March for a period of two and a half months. Pavilion 1, where the greenroom will be built to accommodate the delegations during the broadcast, as well as dressing rooms and makeup, will be available for production for a period of one month. Pavilion 13, intended for production, will be available to it for a period of three months. The media center to be used by hundreds of journalists from all over the world will be built in a separate pavilion. All work spaces will be open 24 hours a day, including Saturdays.

Pavilion 2 will contain only 9,000 seats, but the stage and the cameras are expected to occupy 2,000 places. Of the 7,000 remaining tickets, about 3,000 tickets will be transferred to the European Broadcasting Union and to the sponsors of the competition. Of the remaining 4,000, the production is obliged to sell at least one-third to foreign residents. This means that the Israelis will have a little more than 2,500 tickets, which will probably compete with tens of thousands of people who dreamed of seeing the competition closely. Source adds that "One of the fears is that there will be an invited audience that may be 'dry', as opposed to the competition fans who are a 'live audience' and very important to the energy in the hall".

In attempt to answer these issues, The tender states that the stage will be required to occupy a minimum of seats in the hall. "The design should include the use of the space of the pavilion in a manner that will enable maximum viewing - seated and standing". At the same time, the production understands the importance of the size of the stage, so that it should look impressively. The production does not rule out a circular, square or rectangular stage, which will also include a walkway into the catwalk.

One of the solutions to the problem will be the separation of the Green Room from the central hall. Moved to Pavilion 1, the Green Room will also accommodate 2,000 spectators, who will be able to purchase tickets at a separate sale and watch the competition on a video screen. Despite this, the tender states that the stage will be designed so that viewers at home will not feel that the event is held in two separate halls.

The Green Room is supposed to include 26 separate spots, each with at least ten places, as well as transition and separation areas for cameras. "The design of the Green Room should correspond with the stage design, but above all, it should be user-friendly and efficient in terms of utilizing the space."

Apart from the main stage and the Green Room, the designer must also include the table for six representatives of the European Broadcasting Union, led by the supervisor, Jon Ola Sand. "The table of supervisors must be designed so that no one in the audience is able to see the screens and laptop computers located on it."

The selected designer will be required to provide a three-dimensional computerized model (or a few models) of the set and to present any addition, modification or correction required by the European Broadcasting Union. After the final sketches are assembled, the vendor will be required to provide images of the stage from eight different angles, green room images from five different angles and pictures of the table from three different angles.

Special provisions are devoted to the facilitation of the ability to change sets between two songs within 30 seconds. In addition to this, a space will be allocated to install lighting on the stage, to install video screens on the stage, to set five hidden backing vocalists on the right or left of the stage. In front of the stage, at the height of the floor, there will be an audience standing.

Considering fiascos of the last two years, the tender reads: "The final design and adaptations in the hall space will depend on the security requirements, including the requirement that no one from the audience is able to take the stage, as well as escape routes within the hall."

Bids for the tender will be submitted in October. The concept proposal, the compatibility of the structure and approval of the European Broadcasting Union is expected until November. Preparation of detailed design plans is expected by February. Construction of the set will begin at the end of March and will continue until mid-April. The rehearsals will begin in mid-April, around Passover. The technical rehearsals on stage will begin at the end of that month, and in early May, about two weeks before the competition, the artists will begin to come to Israel and perform rehearsals on stage.

Designer Florian Wieder, who was behind the stage design in the recent years, has already collaborated with Israeli colleagues on the stages of "The Voice of Israel" and "The Big Brother". Wieder has visited Israel in mid-October to negotiate his Eurovision 2019 involvement.

Hosts

Confirmed: Bar Refaeli, Erez Tal, Assi Azar and Lucy Ayoub will be sharing the honour to host the 64th Eurovision Song Contest this May in Tel Aviv, Israel. It is expected that the latter two will mostly have Greenroom duties and also will host Allocation Draw on Monday.

Bar Refaeli is an international supermodel and is one of the first Israeli models to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. She has a wealth of experience in presenting and broadcasting, having created her own model casting show Million Dollar Shooting Star in 2012. Along with a successful modelling career, Bar has also hosted several primetime TV shows, such as the Israeli version of The X Factor in 2013.

Erez Tal has 25 years of broadcasting experience, having developed, produced and hosted a number of primetime hits, including ten seasons of the hit reality show Big Brother. Erez is also known for creating and hosting TV game-show The Vault, which has sold to 23 territories worldwide, making it the most successful Israeli game show format in the world. Erez featured as KAN's Eurovision commentator in 2018.

Assi Azar is one of Israel's top television hosts and screenwriters, whose credits include hosting Israel's Rising Star, the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. OUT Magazine featured Assi in its global 100 Most Influential Gay People listing.

Lucy Ayoub is Israel's most promising new talent, who rose to fame as increasingly influential YouTuber. She has grown to become a well-known TV host and delivered the results of the Israeli jury at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

At the end of the last week the secret additional auditions were held for the positions of the Green Room hosts of the Eurovision 2019. The attendees were KAN hostess Lucy Ayoub, national preselection Hakokhav Haba host Assi Azer and mentalist Lior Suchard, reports Israel Hayom. Ayoub was the only one who did two auditions, one with each of males. The dynamics between Azar and Suchard were already examined in the previous round of auditions, but the chances that both will get the job are very low.

Lior Suchard will join Erez Tal and Bar Refaeli as the host of the Eurovision Song Contest, reports Israel Hayom. According to a source involved in the details, these are the three hosts favored by the local production and their auditions have been transferred to the European Broadcasting Union. If there are no changes, the European Broadcasting Union is expected to approve the three and an official announcement to the press will be issued soon.

Suchard, a very successful sensory artist in the world, also took part in the auditions. In recent years, he has participated in all the major talk shows in the world, including Larry King and Jay Leno, and more recently in Kim Kardashian's program. His good appearance in auditions and his English impressed the examiners who chose him for the role. During the broadcast he is expected to attract the attention of viewers in Europe through his segments where he will be interacting with the singers of the contest.

However, it should be noted that the final contracts with the three have not yet been finalized, and organizers are currently reviewing the constraints of the schedule of the three and the terms of their contracts. At the same time, the production also examines Suchard's performance constraints, as well as how to integrate his segments into the broadcast while maintaining the element of surprise.

"The process of selecting of the hosts has not yet been completed, and only at the end will we officially announce who will be the Eurovision 2019 hosts", says KAN

Erez Tal and Bar Refaeli will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, subject to the approval of the EBU.

57-years old Tal is an Israeli actor and television host. He was first Israeli commentator of the Eurovision in 2018. Tal has hosted various high-profile shows, inlcuding "HaAh HaGadol" (Big Brother), "Wheel of Fortune", "The Vault".

33-year-old Bar Rуfaeli is an Israeli top model, the sexiest woman of 2012 and 2013, according to the Maxim magazine. From the age of 15, Rafaeli has been actively involved in shootings for fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, ELLE, GQ and Maxim and represented various brands around the world. She worked on the podium for Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Valentino and others. Refaeli has been hosting all seasons of The X Factor Israel. From 2006 to 2011, she dated American actor Leonardo di Caprio. Since 2015 she is married to businessman Adi Ezra, the spouses have two daughters.

After many famous personalities have auditioned for the positions of hosts, KAN has reached the decision, reports Ynet portal. However, the choice of Israeli broadcaster is still subject to the approval of the European Broadcasting Union, and then of contractual agreements with the hosts.

Tal and Refaeli will be the main hosts of the event, and it is expected that KAN personality Lucy Ayoub will join them as Greenroom host. It is also possible that she will be joined in this role by Assi Azar, presenter of Hakochav HaBa.

"It was very important for KAN CEO Eldad Koblenz to include someone from the broadcaster as the main host, but he understood that for the benefit of the quality of the show which aims to strengthen public relations of Israel and Europe, he has to sacrifice his idea", says the source, explaining why Ayuob got the Greenroom host position.

If there are no last-minute changes, the official announcement is expected to happen next month.

Singer Shiri Maimon, who was considered one of the most prominent candidates for the position of the Eurovision 2019 host, did not attend the auditions because of time constraints, reports Israel Hayom. Newspaper believes it means she is now out of picture. Co-host of "The Next Star" Rotem Sela also did not attend the hosts auditions.

As we have reported earlier, on Friday morning candidates for the Eurovision 2019 hosting role have been gathered in Kfar Shmaryahu. Among the candidates have been such prominent figures as actor and TV host Erez Tal, who is considered a fairly sure candidate, model Bar Refaeli, actresses and singers Ania Bukstein and Noa Tishby, TV hosts Assi Azar, Geula Even, Lucy Ayoub, Romy Neumark, Liron Weizman, Dana Grotsky, radio broadcaster Ofer Nachshon, mentalist Lior Suchard, actors and hosts Guy Zu-Aretz, Yaron Brovinsky, Aki Avni, Leon Rosenberg, comedian Nicky Goldstein, who was tested for the role of Green Room host.

The auditions that were filmed there were sent to the European Broadcasting Union which along with the Israeli production team will determine the hosts of the contest by the end of November. It is expected that there will be four hosts selected - two for the main stage, and two for the Greenroom.

Aki Avni Ania Bukstein Assi Azar Bar Refaeli Dana Grotsky Erez Tal Geula Even Guy Zu-Aretz Leon Rosenberg Lior Suchard Liron Weizman Lucy Ayoub Nicky Goldstein Noa Tishby Ofer Nachshon Romy Neumark Yaron Brovinsky

Opening and interval acts

Netta Barzilai will appear in the first Semi-final with new version of Toy and in the Final with a new song that will be released later this month.

Dana International will open the Eurovision Song Contest Final in Israel. She will do so with the song "Tel Aviv" (better known as "Tel Aviv, ya Habibi, Tel Aviv"), originally performed by Omer Adam, and with the huge "Diva", which won the Eurovision Song Contest 1998. The Eurovision final, which will take place at the Tel Aviv Expo on May 18, is expected to begin with the delegations' reception ceremony, in which the delegations will be seen descending from an airplane to the competition stage, according to informed sources. After the landing, the delegations will meet with Israel's national ambassador, Dana International, who will stand on a raised stage. It appears that she will open the event with a passage from the song "Tel Aviv, Ya Habibi, Tel Aviv," written and composed by Doron Medali alongside dozens of Israeli dancers. A well-informed source says that the song will be presented by her in what is defined as a "humorous wink about the Mediterranean genre." The song will then mixed with "Diva", written by Yoav Ginai and composed by Zvika Pick, for the first time in Oriental adaptation. Later in the evening, Dana is expected to appear in the show again, this time together with the British anchor Graham Norton. Dana will also appear in the semifinals.

Four Eurovision stars and another Israeli winner will combine in an interval act for the final: Conchita Wurst will sing Heroes of Måns Zelmerlöw, Måns will continue a medley with Eleni Foureira's entry, Eleni will sing Verka Serduchka's song from 2007 and Verka will sing Toy. The four of them will be joined by Gali Atari and perform Hallelujah together.

Another Israeli winner Izhar Cohen will deliver points of the Israeli jury voting.

Actress Gal Gadot, who was originally offered to host the contest, but declined it due to other obligations, will participate in the Eurovision final in a special role. Gadot agreed (on a voluntary basis) to star in a filmed piece with the Israeli comedian Yuval Samo, who played role of taxi driver Asher Ben Horin in a weekly satirical program "Erez Nehederet". Gadot, picked by Samo from the airport, will tell Europe about beauty in the State of Israel. Earlier, organizers tried to recruit international television personality James Corden, who leads the Carpool Karaoke segment in his own show, but did not succeed.

Idan Raichel will be the only Israeli singer without prior Eurovision experience to make appearance during the Final show of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. He will perform song "Boee" - the first single he released in 2002. Rachel will lead the performance with 24 musicians - his project members, the Alaev family and the Keshetim orchestra. He will be joined on the stage by all 26 finalists of the show as well.

Shalva Band, who had to withdraw from the Israeli national final due to the Shabbat observance, will appear in the second semi-final with the song "Million dreams".

The musician and video artist Kutiman, who until six months ago had never seen the Eurovision Song Contest, has watched 63 broadcasts in recent months and created two 3-minute segments with new music to be broadcast in the two semis.

Mentalist Lior Suchard will be making appearances during all three show and is expected to interact with the participants in the Green Room of the competition.

KAN hopes to see Madonna performing in the final, there is a desire from both sides, the negotiations are in advanced stages. Two Madonna songs (a hit from the past and song from her new album) will cost $ 1.3 million, funded by billionaire Sylvan Adams. The singer is expected to arrive in Israel 4 days before the competition, with a team of more than 60 people and will stay at Dan hotel in Tel Aviv. The person in charge of her appearance in Israel is Assaf Blecher, who has previously produced the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Live Nation adds that it is possible that two other international artists will appear in the show of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The broadcast in the country will start on 21:40 in Hebrew with Yardena Arazi, KAN 11 commentators of the show will be Sharon Teicher and Eran Zerachovitch.

Postcards

KAN has released a glimpse of the postcards. Jerusalem, Haifa, Eilat, Akko, Mitzpe Ramon and the host city Tel Aviv are among those featured in the postcards.

You can see the walls of Jerusalem, the Sammy Ofer Stadium in Haifa, the Eilat hotels, the Tel Aviv Museum, the port of Akko, and a other spectacular places in Israel.

The concept of postcards this year is "Dancing Israel". All the artists were required to practice dance steps and movements before coming to Israel. They had a few hours of training in the studio with Eurovision choreographers, among them Oz Morag.

"Dancing Israel" - is the concept chosen for the Eurovision 2019 postcards, with the intention of connecting the participants to the beautiful and historic landscapes of the State of Israel with sounds and movement.

In the filming will be involved well known Israeli dancers, including: Stefan, Anna Aronov, Dana Frieder, Or Kahlon, Idan Sharabi, Batsheva Dance Company, Rona Lee Shimon, the Israeli Ballet and the Artistic Swimming Team. The selected dancers will dance in a different dance style, from hip hop and parkour to modern dance and ballet. Representatives of the participating countries will join each postcard to the dance a different dance on a backdrop of a different Israeli landscape.

Among the sites chosen for shootings: Eilat, Caesarea, the Dead Sea, Mount Hermon, the Bahai Gardens and many others.

"The postcards are considered one of the most important components of the broadcast," says Zivit Davidovich, the main producer of the Eurovision Song Contest. "They are broadcast every three minutes for forty seconds each and are an excellent opportunity to show the 200 million viewers around the world the beautiful faces of Israel.".

Several sites to be used in the postcards filming have been already selected. For example, representative of Austria will be filmed on Mount Hermon resembling Austrial Alps, reports Walla.

Other locations shortlisted for postcards filming include Habima Square in Tel Aviv (Orange carpet venue), Judean Desert, Kerem HaTeimanim (Yemenite Vineyard) in Tel Aviv, Timna Park in the Arava, the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa, the Iris Reserve in Netanya and two Dead Sea locations - one of which is the abandoned water park at Kalia Beach, the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem and parachuting in Eilat.

All of these shortlisted locations have been chosen by KAN digital division on the base of over 6,000 photographs submitted to the earlier launched competition.

"The success of the activity reflects the great interest of the Israelis in the Eurovision Song Contest, along with a kind of Israeli pride, which is reflected in the many collaborations," said Maya Ziv Silver, director of digital photography of KAN.

As earlier reported, postcards team is headed by director Karen Hochma, art director Shmuel Ben Shalom and company Gustavo which won tender on postcards.

The filming of postcards was supposed to be on Monday 18 February, when first 2019 participants were expected to land in Israel for the process. It is unclear if it is able to start in time, as the crisis between KAN and ACT has not been resolved as yet, and KAN still threatens to replace Israeli postcards crews with foreign ones - either from Portugal or Ukraine.

| OG Group which recently won the tender for the production of the postcards of the Eurovision 2019, has waived it's victory. At the signing the contract it became clear that company wants to make some changes. Due to the lack of time and since the conditions were part of the tender, KAN disagreed, and OG decided to give up. Thus postcards production will be entrusted to Gustavo Productions.

Globes reports that the idea of postcards is "to connect the participant to the host country filming him against the backdrop of the country's landscapes. The length of each clip is approximately 40 seconds. In addition, a 5 minute clip will be produced featuring all the singers taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The tender for the production of the postcards, in a financial volume of NIS 3.2 million, was released two and a half months ago, and five production houses competed for it . Gustavo Productions specializes in television commercials and works with most of the major advertising agencies and with many of the major advertisers, such as beverages company CBC Group, lottery Mifal HaPayis. mobile operator Partner, Isracard and others.

Company OG Group is the winner of the tender for the production of 42 Postcards of the Eurovision Song Contest, reports Ice.

In a tender distributed two months ago, five production houses competed for a production budget of NIS 3.2 million. OG Group is the production house that has created various advertising campaigns, including IDI Insurance, Nine Million and Tadiran, and each year also produces Festigal, annual children's show. You can find its video portfolio here.

The company is led by Gilad Schneider, Tamir Weksler and Julia Zarug. The Director responsible for all the postcards is Karen Hochma who will work with Art Director, Shmuel Ben Shalom, and the two are part of the creative group that KAN has recruited under the direction of Yuval Cohen, Editor in Chief and Lead Director of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The length of each clip is about 40 seconds, and will be filmed in different locations in Israel - which will give many public relations to specific sites throughout the country. The shoots are expected to take place from January to March, after two pilots receive the approval of the European Broadcasting Union.

The reports on whether artists will be featured in the postcards this year have been quite confusing, but it is said that the company will also produce a 5 minute clip featuring all the singers taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Tal Forer has been appointed as music producer and arranger of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, reports Walla. Forer will work on theme music of the event and also postcard music. Producer, arranger, composer and pianist Tal Forer, 40, is one of the most active and prominent musicians in Israel. Among other things, he has been a musical producer of "The Voice" since its first season, was Festigal (kids song and dance show) music producer for 12 years. He worked with such artists as Shlomo Artzi (with whom he has been working as pianist for 13 years), Shlomi Shabat (produced three albums), Harel Skaat, Sarit Hadad, Static & Ben-El Tavori Eyal Golan and others.

Director Keren Hochma (who was behind music video for "Toy") and art director Shmuel Ben Shalom were appointed as responsible for the production of the postards. Production company for postcards will be chosen shortly on special tender launched by KAN. Walla reports that 42 representatives of the countries will arrive in Israel for the filming of the postcards in April, and due to time constraints will be met simultaneously by a number of directors, coordinated by Hochma and Ben Shalom.

An acclaimed and internationally celebrated choreographer in her past, Karen Hochma first took on directing making music videos and today, she is one of the leading commercial, TV and music directors in Israel. She is the proud recipient of an MTV International Award and 3 Israeli TV Academy Awards. Her work is highly visual and sensorial, drawing influences from her background in dance to create a unique physical and rhythmical language.

Ben Shalom is an art director working in commercials, TV and film. He is the owner of OCD, a company specializing in architecture and industrial design. He was head of the graphics department on the production of the American film The Insider and a set decorator on Spy Games. His works have been showcased in design and art exhibitions around the world.

On 17 October, host broadaster KAN has launched a tender for the preparation of the Eurovision postcards. As usual, the videos, approximately 40 seconds long, will be filmed in Israel and may be selected for different locations. The winner of the tender will have to provide an international quality video, conduct research, select locations, build scenery, prepare costumes, makeup, visual art and more. The senior roles (producer, director, photographer, art director, editorial director) should be filled only by professionals who have worked in at least ten productions for the last three years. The tender was sent out to the largest advertising agencies in Israel, and the deadline for submission of the tender is October 28.

The winning company will need to film two pilot postcards, which should be approved by the EBU and KAN. After that, the filming will take place in January-March. The producer will be given NIS 5 million (approximately €1.2 million) for production costs, while the budget dedicated to the postcards themselves is (approximately) NIS 3.2 million (€767 thousands). In addition, the producers are planning to film a five-minute clip featuring all the singers, which will be shot during Euroweeks in May and used as parts of the intervals.

Partners

The European Broadcasting Union is already working hard to recruit sponsorship for the competition, as every year. Information from the document summarizing the cooperation with the commercial companies and the costs was revealed on 19 October by Israel Hayom.

"Basically, we have a centralized marketing system through which sponsors can be purchased," explains a source at the European Broadcasting Union. "When you buy Eurovision sponsorship, you get a respectable package, but we do not sell advertisements for the competition itself, and every country broadcasts their own commercials."

The cost of sponsoring the Eurovision Song Contest is between € 500,000 and € 1 million. In exchange for this respectable amount, each sponsor will receive five seconds at the start of the broadcast, during breaks and at the end of the semis and finals. The Union is careful not to take more than one sponsor from the same field. The sponsor's logo will be displayed on the list of credits at the end of the broadcasts and, of course, at the official press conferences (almost 100 such events), in all the printed materials of the competition and in the venue of the event itself.

The Sponsor may call himself: Official Partner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, and shall have the right to use the Eurovision logo or logo parts in its campaigns. "If, for example, a beverage company sponsors the competition, it will be declared as 'the official drink of the Eurovision Song Contest,'" the source said. "A sponsor airline will be 'the official airline of the Eurovision', and so on, in some cases they will simply be called the Official Partner".

Sponsors are also eligible to enter co-branded campaigns with other commercial companies provided that the sponsor is at the center of the campaign. "For example, a beverage company may have the right to do a joint campaign with a supermarket, with the slogan 'The beverage company and the chain of supermarkets give you the opportunity to be in the Eurovision,' as long as the company remains at the forefront of the campaign."

In addition to the exposure to millions of viewers, the sponsor will receive at least 50 VIP tickets, which include VIP accommodation in the final and semifinals, and the possibility of purchasing 50 additional tickets without special conditions for each event in the competition week. "So the sponsor company can run a campaign where tickets for the shows will be distributed, or they can be given to the employees. This is a very popular option provided that the tickets are very rare," said the source.

In addition to the on-screen presence, the Sponsor's logo and design will be displayed on the official website of the Eurovision, on its Facebook page (1.6 million followers) and on the Twitter page (which has more than 400,000 followers). Sponsors will also have the option to send a blogger, who will receive extensive entrance permits to the event hall and a much broader approach than journalists. The company can choose someone on their behalf to report to them from within, or to choose someone among their customers.

According to the official announcement, there is already one official sponsor: MyHeritage, an Israeli high-tech company that has built a platform for discovering, preserving and sharing family history and enabling search, construction and tracking of family trees. According to the source at the European Broadcasting Union, "there are one or two sponsors who are about to sign agreement, so we have to look for two or three other official sponsors". "Usually this process is dragged down to January, but this time it progresses faster, to our delight, it's not that every other day somebody else knocks on the door, but we're in contact with three other companies, and we want to close the deal with at least one of them soon. Three sales agents working on recruiting additional sponsors. "

MyHeritage, the leading global family history and DNA company, has been announced on 26 September by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as Presenting Partner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. As the event's main sponsor, MyHeritage has been granted extensive global association and event, media, and digital rights for the upcoming song contest, which will be held in Tel Aviv.

MyHeritage's services make it easy for anyone, anywhere to embark on a fascinating journey to discover their roots. Through the MyHeritage DNA test, its integrated family tree building platform and collections of 9 billion historical records, MyHeritage enables millions of people to discover their family's past and learn how they fit into the global human tapestry.

This partnership with the Eurovision Song Contest comes hot on the heels of MyHeritage becoming the most popular family history and DNA service in Europe, following surging interest in DNA testing for the discovery of relatives and ethnic origins. MyHeritage will be working closely with the EBU to create content throughout the year that will focus on the rich heritage of the Eurovision Song Contest, revealing the connections between winners, participants and fans of the show.

Jon Ola Sand, the EBU's Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, said: "We are excited to have MyHeritage on board as Presenting Partner for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. This new partnership is the perfect fit; underpinning our core values of diversity and inclusion, whilst bringing together different countries and nationalities in the spirit of discovery and creativity."

"We are delighted to partner with the Eurovision Song Contest," said Aviram Levi, Chief Marketing Officer of MyHeritage. "As one of the world's greatest gatherings that celebrates cultural diversity and creativity, we share the Eurovision Song Contest's values. Helping people strengthen their bond to their families by establishing a connection to their family history and cultures of origin makes them realize that, while we are all unique, we are also more similar and connected than we think."

Insignia exchange

The Semi-Final Allocation Draw and the Host City Insignia Handover Ceremony marked the first official Eurovision 2019 event in Tel Aviv. The Ceremony was held at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, one of Israel's leading art and culture institutions, in the presence of The Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Ron Huldai, The Deputy Mayor of Lisbon, Duare Cordeiro, The Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Jon-Ola Sand and the Director General of KAN, Eldad Koblenz.

The event opened with the handing over of the Host City insignia from last year's hosts, Lisbon to this year's Host City, Tel Aviv. It is a Eurovision tradition for each Host City to add an iconic insignia to the key chain, before handing over the entire collection of insignia to the next host city.

Jon Ola Sand: "The insignia ceremony is an important moment for the Eurovision Song Contest and an exciting celebration of the host city handover. It is also a key milestone for our participating broadcasters as they find out which Semi-Final they will perform in, and as the countdown continues to May, we look forward to welcoming them to Tel Aviv for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest."

Ron Huldai, The Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo:"I am very excited to open the Tel Aviv Eurovision events. Several months ago Tel Aviv-Yafo was declared as the host city of Eurovision. Since that moment, hundreds of people began working. Hundreds of people from the EBU, from the Kan Broadcasting Corporation and from the Municipality; they all have one goal: to make sure that the Eurovision this year will be the best show on earth; in the coolest city on earth. The slogan of the Eurovision this year is "Dare to Dream". This is a fantastic slogan for Tel Aviv-Yafo. Because this city belongs to dreamers who never give up.".

Duare Cordeiro, The Deputy Mayor of Lisbon: "I am sure that, like Netta Barzilai, Tel Aviv will also preserve and enhance the legacy of the European Song Contest and its fundamental role for multiculturalism and the celebration of the union between peoples and people. I wish the greatest success to the European Song Contest 2019 and to this magnificent city.".

Gil Omer, Chairman of Kan, the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation: "20 months ago, we were given the keys to the public broadcasting. We took that with great respect and a sense of responsibility. We have made great achievements, and now we are facing an enormous challenge. Thanks to Netta and her fantastic team, we have got the opportunity to show Israel to the world. To expose the people, the diversity, the success stories, the sites and the landscape. We are determined to make this year Eurovision contest a Daring Dream that comes true!".

Semifinals distribution draw will take place on Monday, 28 January at Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Event will be hosted by Assi Azar and Lucy Ayoub and broadcast from 18:00 on YouTube on the official Eurovision Song Contest and on Facebook of KAN broadcaster.

The event will begin with the traditional Eurovision Song Contest insignia ceremony. The deputy mayor of Lisbon, the host city of the Eurovision Song Contest last year, will pass it on to Ron Huldai, the mayor of Tel Aviv which hosts the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.

On Thursday, dozens of Eurovision banners and flags were hung on Ibn Gabirol Street and along the promenade. Eurovision frames were also set up on the Aviv beach (next to the Manta Ray restaurant) and next to the Pisgat Zeev. In addition, the municipality is working on a number of additional branding ideas for the Eurovision Song Contest, which will be revealed later.

As earlier reported, location for the draw has been changed from historic City Hall (Beit Hair) to Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and thus Red Carpet ceremony (May 12) was also moved to Habima Square and Habima Theater, which is not strange considering that Moshe Kepten - artistic director of Habima Theater is responsible for the ceremony concept.

The first part of the draw will determine which Semi-Final each of the six pre-qualified countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and host country Israel) will broadcast and be able to vote in.

The second part of the draw will determine in which Semi-Final and in which half of the respective Semi-Final the other 36 participating countries will perform. As in recent years, the exact running order will be determined by the producers of the show.

The 36 Semi-Finalists have been allocated into six pots, based on historical voting patterns as calculated by the contest's official televoting partner Digame. Drawing from different pots helps to reduce the chance of so-called neighbourly voting and increases suspense in the Semi-Finals.

Golden Circle).

Ben Gurion.

Google Maps.

Weitzman.

M1 Music Awards 2016.

Israel Hayom.

Таль работал в крупнейших телешоу Израиля, включая "HaAh HaGadol" (Big Brother), "Wheel of Fortune", "The Vault".

В съемках примут участие известны израильские танцоры, включая: Stefan, Anna Aronov, Dana Frieder, Or Kahlon, Idan Sharabi, Batsheva Dance Company, Rona Lee Shimon, Израильский Балет и Команда по синхронному плаванию.

Gustavo Productions.

PAENDA / Paenda = PÆNDA
Chingiz Mustafayev = Chingiz
Roko Blažević = Roko
