Switzerland

Day 6 of rehearsals - it'll be a mixed day!

Desiree on Fri, 05/04/2018 - 09:46

In just about 15 minutes the first rehearsal of today will start, which is Armenia.
We start the day with the remaining 4 countries of semi final 1 who will each do their second rehearsal which will be blogged live from the arena like yesterday. The same goes for the first five countries of the second semi-final.

After all these we get to see the first 30 minute-rehearsals from the BIG-5 countries + Portugal. These rehearsals will go on well into the evening, so loads happening today, stay tuned!

Switzerland first rehearsal

Switzerland puts all the focus on the two members of Zibbz - Corinne is wearing her hat again which seems to be a trademark. Good start to the rehearsal with flashing lights at the drum sequences. They are still trying out several staging options, one of them involving the side bridges, the other one the catwalk on the front. Corinna takes along her mic stand which is adorned with red fabric in the same colours as her hat. During the bridge she also calls for people to put her hands up as she already did at the promotour, while Stefan's drum podium is lighted in spotlights. Near the end she actually stands on the drum to jump off and end next to him.

The last round showed she gets handed some pyro torch from the audience while Stefan is also holding one. However, hers either extinguishes too soon or she's holding it too long.

Day Two of the First Rehearsals

So, here we are for day two of the first rehearsals. A first opportunity to see Croatia, Greece and Cyprus, none of whom took part in the promo parties in the last month. We'll also be seeing how Macedonia, Austria, Finland, Armenia, Switzerland and Ireland have adapted their songs for presentation on the Eurovision stage. Stay tuned for updates throughout the day from the team.

Switzerland Second Rehearsal

ChrisB on Sat, 05/06/2017 - 12:34

We finally got to see the full staging for Switzerland as we were cut short to one run during first rehearsals.
It's interesting. I was a bit concerned about the barbie staging but it kind of works for me now. One could say the stage in pink and the yellow dress comes across a bit plastic and cheap, because well it is, but you could also call it playful and fun.
And that fits to the song, Apollo being a fun pop song.
But there's is one component missing yet. She needs to start smiling more, because a fun playful staging with a dramatic performance is incoherent
Better on the third run, but she is still too serious on camera for my liking.

Switzerland second rehearsal

Now this is one of the rehearsals I've most been looking forward to as we didn't get to see much of it the first time. The canary yellow dress with a long veil is still there, so are the stairs and pastel yellow/purple backdrop.

The beginning looks really beautiful on screen as the camera first zooms in on Miruna and thens hows her as the centre of a sun.

It is all a matter of taste I think, but I actually think it doesn't look bad at all. She still sounds very well, even though I think the high notes she belts out during the last chorus are not that necessary.

Day 4 review

Desiree on Wed, 05/03/2017 - 17:01

So all semi-finalists have rehearsed once now. Today we got to see the second half of the second semi-final, starting off with some of the songs that are not viewed as the biggest candidates for the top positions this year. San Marino comes across professional, both singers are good performers but the song is still a big question mark. Croatia was completely over the top, in my opinion it looks great but it's still a very cheesy song, might do better than we all think (and maybe hope?) but it could also be disregarded for being just too much.

When it comes to Norway, Estonia and Lithuania - they gave similar performances to the national final, solid for what it is but maybe not enough to stand out. Disappointments for me were Bulgaria which feels a bit cold but has some really nice graphics and Israel where a lot more can be done with the choreography, as long as the vocals are kept into account as well.

I can't say too much about Switzerland as we have hardly seen it, it's colourful and bright but maybe a bit too much. Then finally to my highlight of today, Belarus. Songwise it stands out for me being sincere, happy, upbeat, warm and it was so much better on stage than I had imagined it would be.

So from tomorrow I will spend a lot of time in the hall as the second rehearsals begin and we can see and hear what it sounds like from there. I'm excited, can't wait so stay tuned for tomorrow!
