Mariana Popova with Let Me Cry will represent Bulgaria at Eurovision 2006 in Athens. Mariana Popova was born in 06.06 in Sofia. She has been studying music since she was 11, and later she studied also modern and jazz ballet. In the High school Mariana studied in a special music class. She studied three semesters Major Pop and Jazz Singing in New Bulgarian University, Sofia. Since 1996 – 2000 she’s a part of the group Cocomania. Her discography includes the singles and videos “You Didn’t Come”, “I Said”, “We Can Do It Again”, “There Isn’t Anything”, “After” – duet with Dani Milev (Third Prize at the “Burgas and the Sea” Festival ’05 and the Special Prize of Rotary Club – Burgas, Bulgaria) and “Dream About Me” – duet with Dani Milev (First Prize at the “Burgas and the Sea” Festival ’05 – Burgas, Bulgaria). About herself Mariana says that she dreams of never to stop dreaming, that she appreciates the really talented people, that she believes in herself and in reincarnation and that she would like to have a dinner with the singer Marc Anthony. Bulgarian gay singer Azis is almost sure to stage in Athens' finals of Eurovision 2006 together with Mariana Popova's Let Me Cry. The famed Roma transvestite aged 28, who performs back vocals to Mariana, did not attend the Bulgarian finals on Saturday to avoid speculations he might have pumped up the vote. Mariana Popova was declared the winner after receiving 24.05% of the total votes, or some 15,000 SMS votes and 4,700 phone calls. Only hours after her win of the second ever Bulgarian Eurovision Song Contest selection claims were made by her opponents that elements of the voting system were unfair. In an open letter addressed to the director of Bulgarian broadcaster BNT, artists have protested that technical faults occurred, which eventually affected the outcome of the contest. The complaint concerns the time limit imposed by BNT on the voting window. Up to five calls could be made from a single number, within a ten-minute period. This move was prompted by last year's scandal with suspected vote rigging for winners from Kaffe. Finalists 2006 claim that many of their supporters were unable to get through in this short time, and call for a fresh round of voting. Showman Slavi Trifonov, whose song was twice rejected before entering the Eurovision contest in Bulgaria now faces a libel trial. "He called us a bunch of musical aborigines, and I will sue him," jury member Nayden Andreev said before the media on Tuesday. Trifonov, whose song finally entered the contest after two other songs stepped down, indignantly refused to take part in the whole thing. During his nighttime talk show he also called the jury impotent. "I will take him in court and make him prove there in physical and metaphorical sense that I am indeed impotent," Andreev said. More heavy accusations were waved during a press conference in Sofia, organized by Eurovision contestants, who wanted an official apology by the Bulgarian National Television (BNT). The vote had been rigged, singers claimed, because a lot of text messages sent during the ten minutes given for voting were returned, and many calls were not received. "Our fans were fooled, and they just paid for nothing," singer Gepi said. Representatives of BNT and the company dealing with the vote counting tried to explain themselves but faced the wrath of the pop stars, their producers and fan club members. In the end the only thing they managed to say in their defence was that the technical glitch is now investigated. As for whether or not there would be need of a new voting, no one seems to have yet clarified their stance, including the singers, who, among themselves, face discrepancies on the point. 10.02 Bulgarian singer Slavi Trifonov withdrew his entry from National Bulgarian preselection. After his song was not included in the list of 24 finalists singer commented that jury made a choice not against the song, but against himself. Yesterday the song after series of withdrawals got the semifinal ticket but singer decided not to take part in the first round of preselection, where result will be decided by jury again. 09.02 Bulgarian talk-show host Slavi Trifonov finally gets a chance for the Eurovision, after his song was wait-listed twice by the jury, it became clear on Thursday. Performed in partnership with Roma singer Sofi Marinova, Trifonov's song titled "Love is Poison" climbed among the first 24 when the last song in the list backed down. "Impossible Silence", sung by Mariana Pashalieva and young "Star Academy" winner Marin Yonchev was retracted, because of Yonchev's producer, who did not want his client's song in the race. This left a sport open for Trifonov and Marinova, who caused a scandal in last year's Eurovision contest by claiming that the votes were rigged and boycotting the final when they came in second. When the results of this year's first round came through, Trifonov claimed that the jury had wait-listed him as a person, not the song itself. On Tuesday one of the 24 shortlisted songs was disqualified leaving a space for the 25th song to join the competition. "Love is Poison" that had the same number of points as "Impossible Silence" was again overlooked by the jury and left out of the race. 07.02 Bulgaria: The shortlist of 24 shortlisted songs to rival for participation in Eurovision 2006 has seen a reshuffle after one of the bidders quit in apparent violation of the rules. Vanya Kostova's Merak (Desire), performed with her son Boyan Mihaylov, appeared not to be eligible for the Europe-wide contest, as it took part in a local music festival in September last year. The fifteen-member panel gathered Tuesday to decide which song on the reserve list is to fill in the vacancy. Eventually the draw, required because of equal points, preferred Mariana Pashalieva to last year's controversy-flagging TV show anchor Slavi Trifonov and Sofi Marinova. In the second round of the contest that will take place February 25, all 24 songs will be judged by the panel in a live performances. Based on the quality showed in the live performance, the jury will bring down the number of songs to 12. In the final round all 12 songs will be performed at a life concert on March 11 and the audience will have the last say.	Шортлист из 24 песен Болгарского отбора претерпел некоторые изменения, поскольку одна из участвующих композиций была дисквалифицирована за нарушение правил отбора. Песня Вани Костовой Merak, исполняемая с ее сыном Бояном Михайловым, как оказалось, принимала участие в местном музыкальном фестивале в сентябре прошлого года. Жюри, в составе 15 человек, во вторник приняло решение о том, какая песня заменит выбывшую. В итоге голосования жюри две песни набрали одинаковое количество голосов, но жеребьевка предпочла песню Марианы Пашалиевой против зачинателей скандала прошлого года Слави Трифонова и Софи Мариновой. Во втором раунде отбора, который пройдет 25го февраля, все 24 песни будут оценены жюри по живым выступлениям и после этого этапа их количество будет сокращено до 12. В финале 11 марта все 12 песен будут исполнены на концерте, и телезрители выберут лучшую из них.
Bulgarian broadcaster has published list of participants of the semifinal of National Preselection Semifinal that will take place on February 25th (finalists selected by jury), final of 12 entries on March 11th (winner will be selected by televoting and SMS). Song "Wish" is written by Maltese songwriter Gerard James Borg, and Bulgaria is recordbreaking 4th country, where Gerard's song entered national preselection.
