Professional jury has chosen 13
songs from 103 submitted entries and 14th place was given to Omar Naber as winner of local

| Omar Naber was born on 7
July 1981 as Omar Kareem, which in Arabic (his father is Jordanian) means ‘a friend for
every occasion’. Omar is a dental technician but is far more interested in music than in drilling teeth – although, when it comes to girls, he does like a gleaming smile! He plays piano (his mother is a music teacher), guitar and bass piano. And apart from singing, composing, writing lyrics and musical arrangements, he is interested in the music industry as a whole. At the moment he has ambitions to be a solo artist, but also loves to perform with his group ‘Kareem’. The group performs in various clubs and open-air festivals, such as Rock Otoc(ec. Omar says he is a punk rocker at heart. Nevertheless, one of his musical idols was Michael Jackson and his ‘Dangerous’ album was the first record that Omar bought with his own money. Omar entered ‘The Battle of the Talents’ competition that was part of the Sunday evening TV show ‘Home Again’ after being encouraged by Matjaz Vlasic from the record label Nika Records. Matjaz also wrote the previous Eurovision song ‘Energy’ which was performed by Nusa Derenda. And Omar decided that the show would be a good opportunity for him to promote his group. Compared to the majority of the other contestants, Omar is an experienced performer, but he never thought he would win – at least not at first. Apparently, he was seemed calm when he was told that he had won a competition, with a great rendition of the Robbie Williams's song ‘Feel’. His reaction after winning the Slovenian national competition for the Eurovision Song Contest with his song ‘Stop’ was more or less the same. Of course, Omar was happy, but he prefers to avoid big emotional outbursts, both on stage and privately! Apart from a professional voice and a good song, Omar is well aware that looks are important. But please don’t compare him to Robbie Williams! He doesn’t want to be seen as a teenage pin-up alongside other artists. Omar is sure to stay realistic and sincere despite the enormous media attention in Kiev. Unusually for such a young and enterprising man, Omar hasn’t mastered computers and doesn’t hold a valid driving licence. Instead, Omar's favourite personal driver (and best friend) is his brother Anis who is four years younger and to whom Omar is very attached. |

Помимо пения, сочинительства он интересуется музыкальной индустрией вообще. В настоящее время он выступает как сольно, так и со своей группой "Карим", которая дает концерты в различных клубах и на фестивалях под открытым небом. Омар считает что в душе он панк рокер, но несмотря на это одим из его кумиров всегда был Майкл Джексон и его альбом Dangerous стал первым альбомом купленным Омаром за свои деньги. Омар принял участие в Словенскуом варианте конкурса Идол по приглашению Матьяза Власича с рекорд лейбла Ника Рекордс, известного также как автор песни Energy Нушы Деренды. И Омар решил, что шоу - это хорошая возможность для раскрутки себя и своей группы. По сравнению с другими участниками шоу Омар был уже более опытным исполнителем, но он никогда не думал о победе, по крайней мере сначала. Он выглядел очень спокойно, когда ему сообщили что он победил исполнив вариант песни Робби Уильямса Feel. Его реакция после победы на Словенском отборе была практически идентичной. Естественно Омар был счастлив, но он предпочитает сдерживать свои эмоции. Момимо профессионального голоса и хорошей песни, Омар считает, что большое значение имеет внешний вид. Но он очень не любит когда его сравнивают с Робби Уильямсом! Свои шансы в Киеве Омар оценивает весьма реалистично, несмотря на очень большое внимание прессы к нему. Омар до сих пор не владеет компьютером и не имеет водительских прав, что не свойственно людям его поколения. Любимый личный водитель Омара и его лучший друг - это его брат Анис, который младше на 4 года, и к которому Омар очень привязан. |

viewer report: Selection itself was rather unimpressive, so no long reviews here. Glad that Slovenian televiewers finally made good choice and changed their opinion to the better song. Johnny Bravo - standard song from big guy with long hair. Express - bad vocalist, professional band, poor song Quite symbolical is last place of the band Victory. Performance of this rock team was not band, and chorus of the song was very nice. Very boring song of Sasa Lendero and it qualified seems only thanks to the effective stage presentation, but this is surely not the song for Europe. Omar tried his best, and though he didn't get some high notes his performance looked impressive thanks to amazing back vocalist, and if they will work like this at Eurovision too this song should do pretty well. Effective dresses of Jadranka and band couldn't save the song. Interesting was work of Anika Horvat, good chorus and cute black girl with violine. Sergeja's performance was average, though song chorus was not bad too. Absolutely nothing has presented Regina in her witch style. Effective was Nude performance, but it seems rock band are not in a big favour in Slovenia. And Billy's Private Parking was mockery under the rock music, female vocals were very unimpressive. Girl with Kazakh name Alya only was shaking on the stage with everything she could. Not impressive was and Rebeka performance, who just hadn't won because of her popularity, but that song had no chances in Europe. And finally too difficult to recognize Nusa Derenda before she gave another astonishing vocal performance and should have entered top 3 in my opinion. So my top 3 after watching the performances was: 1. Omar Naber 2. Anika Horvat 3. Nusa Derenda |

обзор очевидца: Отбор сам по себе был весьма слабым, поэтому особо распространяться по его поводу особого смысла не имеет. Порадовали словенские телезрители, поставившие на первое место в первом этапе Ребеку, и все таки сменившие свое мнение на Омара Набера. Джонни Браво - стандартная песня в исполнении всем известного крупного мужчины с хвостиком. Экспресс - дерганная вокалистка, профессиональная группа, слабая песня. Символично последнее место песни группы с названием Победа. Выступление этой рок-команды было весьма неплохим, да и припев песни весьма запоминающийся. Скучнейшая песня, но эффектное выступление Саши Лендеро провели ее в финал, но в Европе с таким номером делать нечего. Омар старался изо всех сил, хоть и не вытягивал высокие ноты, но благодаря великолепному бэк вокалу при слаженной работе эта песня должна не затеряться на Евровидении. Эффектные костюмы Ядранки Юрас и комманды не смогли спасти эту песню. Интересной была работа Аники, запоминающийся припев и потрясающая девушка на скрипке. Выступление Сергеи было нормальным, но не более. Хотя припев песни также неплохой. Абсолютно никакой была Регина в образе ведьмы. Эффектным было выступление Нуд, пения в рупор давно мы не видели, но похоже рок-группы в Словении не в особом почете. А вот выступление Частной Парковки Билли было издевательством над рок музыкой с женским вокалом. Девушка с казахским именем Алия запомнилась только тем, что вертела на сцене всем, чем только возможно. Слабым было и выступление Ребеки, которая едва не победила благодаря своей популярности, но у этой песни на Евровидении не было бы ни малейших шансов. И наконец, с трудом узнаваемая Нуша Деренда - эффектный вокальный номер, и весьма странно выглядел его невыход в финал. Итого места я бы распределил так: 1. Омар Набер 2. Аника Хорват 3. Нуша Деренда |
