Amber supports education for Refugees in Vienna

Andy on Wed, 05/20/2015 - 12:32

Amber and the Maltese Delegation have visited the Learning Café in Vienna.

The Learning Café (Lerncafe), set up by Caritas Vienna, is a free of charge service for kids and teenagers coming from refugee families.

Amber adores children. She was particularly keen to make this visit in Vienna, having previously worked for charity in Tanzania and having helped young kids in need in Reggio Calabria in Italy. Indeed, her plan is to go back to Tanzania this summer. Amber’s plan is to become a primary school teacher. She is completing a Bachelor of Education Degree in early childhood.

The Maltese singer was shown around the facilities. The environment is very colourful and child friendly. The Centre offers assistance to children to carry out their school homework, including reading practice, and provides the necessary tools to improve their computer skills. The Learning Café also provides educational guidance for parents with the help of volunteers.

Amber played with the children, taught them about Malta and sang them the song Warrior. Though the children could not communicate in English, Amber managed to build a bridge with big smiles and warm hugs. She also distributed Eurovision memorabilia.

Twenty four NGO’s and other institutions in Austria are calling for an end to unfair politics related to refugees in the EU. Amber signed a petition promoted by the NGO’s and the Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu.

Israeli Partry

Israel through up a magnificent party at Euroclub tonight. I heard about it a lot and was expecting a lot as well. Many rumours say that it's one of the most interesting parties held in Euroclub, so I decided to join it with Samira. It all started at about 10 pm. So, we arrived and we were offered fresh orange juice at the entrance. That was a good start! The disappointing thing was that a lot of non-accredited people were let in as well, so there was not enough air to breeze. Because of that I literary wanted to die.

Participants from Israel (of cause), Malta, Azerbaijan, Montenegro, Switzerland and Iceland were entertaining public which was very happy to see the contestants. Many nice foods were served - couscous, veggies, fruits, pastry and sweets up to everyone's taste. And again - there were loads of people queuing up for food so it was impossible to try anything. And that was the only and the biggest minus of the party.

In general, I have very positive emotions and impressions but I wouldn't have liked to repeat it again. Soon after 2 am Samira and I left home to relax at long last as tomorrow we have some spare time and no need to get up early.

Malta-Second Rehearsal

Oh,Conchita wings. And Paparizou outfit. Backdrop starts blue and turns into golden-red towards the end.Vocally even if not perfect still improved since the Maltese final, the vocals shouldn't be problem. There are some good close ups but it generally seems a bit empty on stage even if Amber is doing a fair job.I think the Maltese song will struggle with televoting,it's up to the juries to save it (or not).

Malta Second Rehearsal: Amber - Warrior

Up next is Amber from Malta, who's channeling her inner warrior once more.
We're not seeing a lot of change in the backdrops again. So the dominant colours are still blue for the first part of the song and then gold and brown towards the end.

I'm getting a bit of a Disney vibe from it. the sparks throughout the backdrop, really do give a magical atmosphere. In the second part of the song, Amber's backdrop changes to a not too dissimilar one to Conchita's winning backdrop last year.

Amber's vocal performance is spot on. I'm believing every word she's singing. Although I would still like to see a wind machine somehow, to add to the drama especially in the bridge.

Consistent throughout and very pleased with what Malta offers.

Malta First Rehearsal: Amber - Warrior

Amber from Malta is the second artist to please us with a song called 'Warrior' in this years semi final field, and in all fairness I think Malta should consider themselves lucky to be in the other semi from Georgia.

Let me explain why; there's actually nothing wrong with Malta's song. It's a very strong song which allows Amber to show off her impressive vocals, but performance wise, I don't think it comes across as fierce as I would like it to be. Amber, looks gorgeous with her sleek hair and her lace-inspired black gown with a split, but she doesn't really scream warrior, as Nina did yesterday.

So I'm hoping Amber does find that inner warrior in the next couple of days, and gives me more of that fighting spirit. As the backdrop is concerned, we're starting off with a dark blue background, which moves towards a firey background which features the phoenix wings Conchita last year.

I like the backdrop a lot, but again with such a fiery scenery on the stage, I do think Amber really needs to bring that fierceness and empowerment to the stage. There's plenty of drama in the track itself, so I think it would help the song a lot by adding more drama by the use of a wind machine in the bridge.

So still some work to be done, but not a bad start.

Malta, Six Points

Malta - First Rehearsal

I live in Malta now and I'm not surprised that for the background effects they've decided to choose blue and red colors - sea and sun!
Amber's wearing a beautiful black lace dress with shinning elements.

I'm very satisfied with her performance today. The only problem Amber might face with is the static stage as she's alone there. And the great plus for performance is the fact that she's singing without the help of any backing vocals.
