Pollapönk (Small boys playing punk) are: Halli - guitar, Heiðar - vocal and guitar, Guðni - bass and Arnar - drums. Each of members is married and has at least 2 kids. In everyday life Haraldur Freyr is chairman of the Association of pre-school Teachers. Heidar Orn is a pre-school teacher and Arnar Thor and Gudni are professional musicians.Punk outfit Pollapönk was founded by two teachers who wanted to make music that appealed to both children and adults a like that the whole family could enjoy together. Since its founding in 2006 they have released 3 albums.
The first "Pollapönk" (2006) was a graduation piece from University of Iceland (Teaching department) students and future preschool teachers Heiðar Örn Kristjánsson "the blue one" and Haraldur Freyr Gíslason (Halli) "the red one".
Heiðar and Haraldur are also band members of Botnleðja and 'Hafnarfjarðarmafían' ('The Hafnarfjörður Mob'), a support band of the Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar football team. They formed the band Botnledja and entered the local music contest Battle of the Bands'in 1995 and ended up winning it. Their first ever album Drullumall went gold; they were chosen as Best Newcomers at the Icelandic Music Awards in 1995, and as Best Rock Group in 1996 and 1998. They made five albums and two were chosen as the Album of the Year. Botnledja changed their name to Silt in 1997. They toured Europe supporting Blur and opened for Prodigy, Suede, Pulp and Sparta. Botnledja played the Reading Festival, All Tomorrow‘s Parties and In the City, as well as Eurosonic in Holland, Spot in Denmark, Emmaboda in Sweden and the Iceland Airwaves Festival. They subsequently performed some concerts with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. Botnleðja have almost got to Eurovision in 2003, finishing 2nd in the national preselection with "Eurovisa", which members still consider the worst loss in their career. The first performance of the new band took place in nightclub Valgeir, and in the middle of their singing they were kindly asked to stop and leave the stage. Approximately three people witnessed the future stars in the making.
Two members of 'Dr. Spock' and 'Ensím' joined the band in 2007: Haraldur's brother Arnar Þór Gíslason "the pink one" and Guðni Finnsson "the yellow one". Second album "Meira Pollapönk" was released on May 31, 2010 on Record Records and third "Aðeins Meira Pollpönk" followed on November 2, 2011. Pollapönk have had a few big hits, including Leyniskapurinn (Secret Closet), Thor og Jon eru hjon (Thor and John are a couple) and 113 vaelubillinn (113 Wailing Car), which has had many thousands of hits on Youtube. In 2011 the Icelandic national newspaper Frettabladid nominated Pollapönk for the Fellowship Award in the category “Fighting against prejudice”, which is a cause they have been promoting heavily both on their albums and when playing live. That same year Pollapönk received the Icelandic Ibby Award (International Board of Books for Young People) for their contribution to children's culture.The band won the national Eurovision Grand Prix, Songvakeppni Sjonvarpsins, after a special duel between the top two songs of the contest. The results of this second round were determined by the Icelandic people via televoting. The tension on stage was high as the results were announced, as you can see in this video filmed by drummer Arnar Thor on stage.
"The title of our song is "No Prejudice" and it means that we have no tolerance for prejudism and would like to get the message across to as many people".
Despite their obvious sense of humour, Pollapönk's serious aim is to help eradicate prejudice and bullying through the medium of music. The song No Prejudice (Enga fordóma) is typical of this running theme in all their work. It is all about a young person who has a speech impediment and is afraid of being teased or bullied because of it. With this song about celebrating our diversity it is Pollapönk's aim to help eliminate all forms of discrimination, bullying and prejudice, with the message that every individual has the right to live harmoniously with the rest of the world. Eurovision itself is a uniquely diverse institution and Pollapönk are proud to use this musical stage to send their positive message out across Europe to millions of viewers.
At Eurovision song will be performed fully in English as "No Prejudice". American musician John Grant (ex-The Czars) has provided English lyrics. John Grant launched his solo career in 2010 with the album Queen of Denmark. His second album, Pale Green Ghosts, was recorded in Iceland and released in March 2013. Grant's career has been a success, most recently with a nomination for International Male Solo Artist at the 2014 Brit Awards.

"We are most of all concerned about where we are going to organize a contest in 2015. Since there is no hotel next to Harpa, may be we can just throw up a big house there?"
It should also be noted that one of the two backing vocalists for the band is Bright Future MP and member of rock band Dr.Spock Óttarr Proppé. This will be the first time that an Icelandic member of parliament has ever competed in Eurovision. ESCKAZ continues series of Eurovision interviews speaking with enthusiastic representatives of Iceland - Pollapönk.Pollapönk inform us that they are very happy with the victory: "This is a dream come true for us. We are proud and we thank the Icelandic public to give us this opportunity".
They have described their entry "Enga fordóma", which will be performed fully in English at Eurovision as "Colorful with a powerful message that the whole world needs to hear".
"The song and the lyric was specially written for Eurovision. We wanted to try to make song that was not a typical Eurovision song (if you can say that there is something that you can call a typical Eurovision song) but with a catchy melody. We also wanted to try to write a lyric that had a message that would be a contribution to human rights campaign. I can assure everybody that our song and act is no joke. I hope our message will get through to the beautiful people of Europe. We will fight prejudice and discrimination with love."
Defending choice of English, they said: "We want to try to get the message to as many people as possible. We had an idea to have the lyric in many languages but we found it to complicated". English lyrics are being written by famous American musiciant John Grant, who has recently moved to Iceland. First and foremost we've started cooperation with him because he writes brilliant lyrics and beautiful music. The fact that he lives here in Iceland and has been studying Icelandic made this an easy choice. And it dosen´t spoil things that we are all John Grant fans.
The most popular questions after victory at the national final were about band's outfits and their colours:
"The tracksuits are the bands outfits for all occasions and have been for many years. Extremely flexible and good gigsuits and for dancing as well, we are not caught in public without them as pollapönk. But for the finals here in Iceland we took it a step further and had high class "Tuxedo" suits tailor made for each of us in our colors Pink Blue Yellow and Red, and I do believe that gave us a bit extra for our performance in the finals. We are Blue, Pink, Red and Yellow and each member has his own link to the color like PinkPolli had a bit of prejudice toward the color because he had seen everywhere growing up that it was not a color that boys should wear only girls which is nonsense. But he has always liked the color so he looked inward and faced his prejudice regarding the color and wears it proud"
There are no big plans on the table on changes of the song itself, just minor adjustments are possible. Speaking about stage presentation, "There are meetings taking place every day on that matter. One thing's for sure! It we be amazing!. There are no plans yet for a promotional tours, "we do believe that pre contest is important, simply by meeting people with interest in the Eurovision song contest like us, hug them and spread the message of Pollapönk of no prejudice and love for all"
At the national final band was joined by two backing vocalists, and hopefully they will be able to travel to Copenhagen as well. "Bibbi – Snæbjörn Ragnarsson is the main songwriter and bassplayer of the band Skalmold. He also has one of the longest beard in the band. Óttarr Proppe is a legend. He is the singer in HAM, Dr. Spock, Rass and he is The Professor - a funk icon. He is also a Member of Parliament and Deputy Speaker".. It is not the first attempt of band members at Eurovision. "We all have participated in the pre-contest before, Heidar og Haraldur with Botnledja and Arnar and Gudni with Dr. Spock. Heiðar and Haraldur took part back in 2003. Botnleðja playes punk rock so this was kind of the first time a rock band took part in this contest. The memories are all good. We ended up in second place but the first place winner Birgitta won by a landslide. We don't generally like the concept to compete in music but nevertheless this has been a great platform for us to help make the world a better place..
Our main aim at Eurovision will be having fun and making sure our message will cut through. No prejudice!"
Asked about whether they've heard representatives of other countries band mentioned "I heard the Swiss entry a couple of days ago and the guy that sings that song is a excellent whistler". Besides Eurovision, band plans to release "Pollapunk - Best of" album in April with two new songs.

Icelandic representatives at Eurovision song contest 2014 band Pollapönk has released the best of album "Bebebe-besta Pollapönkið". Release party is expected on Saturday at 14.00 in Smáralind shopping center in Kopavogur, Iceland. Band will be playing some of their hits and will sign CDs. The CD includes such popular tracks of the band as Vælubíllinn, Pönkafinn, Keyrða kynslóðin, Ættarmót, Hananú, Leyniskápurinn and Aðalsteinn (enginn kemur að sækja mig) as well as their Eurovision entry with two new versions: Enga Fordóma (Lo Fi Version) and No Prejudice (Eurostuð - Club Version by Örlygur Smari). The CD will initially will only be in Hagkaup supermarket chain and on iTunes. Member of the band Haraldur Gíslason says:

Preview show Alla leið will be making it's return for another season. Show, hosted by Felix Bergsson and Reyni Þór Eggertssyni will get first airing on April 5. The reviewing panel will include actress and writer Anna Svava Knútsdóttir, actor and writer Ari Eldjárn, Greta Samúels, singer Sigga Eyrún, radio host Gunna Dís, DJ Doddi litli, TV host Gísli Marteinn, Eva María, singer Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir and Páll Óskar. Preselection
As usual, Icelandic entry for Eurovision Song Contest will be selected via a Söngvakeppnin competition. Show will be hosted by Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir and Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir. Submission period run from September 3 to October 14, with only up to 2 entries from one composer accepted. 297 entries were received and 10 acts chosen for the competition revealed during program Kastljós on December 17, 2013.
Two semifinals of 5 songs each will take place on February 1 and 8 with top 2 acts chosen by televoting will proceed to the final. After semifinals, jury will add two more entries to the final as wildcard, raising the total to 6. In the final on February 15, first round of voting will be decided by mix of televoting and professional jury vote with top 2 qualifying for the superfinal, where televoting will determine the winner. With a new rule, songs in the semifinal have to be performed in the language they are supposed to be performed at Eurovision in May. Winning entry will get prize of 1 million Icelandic króna.

Больших планов по изменению самой песни у группы нет, возможны только небольшие доработки. На вопрос о сценическом выступлении, группа ответила: "Сейчас мы как раз проводим совещания по этому вопросу. Точно одно! Оно будет потрясающим!. Пока у группы нет планов на промо-туры, но "мы верим, что предконкурсный промоушен очень важен, просто встречаться с людьми, интересующимися конкурсом Евровидение, обнимать их и распространять месседж Pollapönk - об отказе от предрассудков и всеобщей любви"
На национальном отборе с группой выступили два бэк-вокалиста, и вероятно они присоединятся к ним и в Копенгагене. "Bibbi – Snæbjörn Ragnarsson - главный автор и басист группы Skalmold. В состав жюри войдут актриса и писательница Anna Svava Knútsdóttir, актер и писатель Ari Eldjárn, Greta Samúels, певица Sigga Eyrún, радиоведущая Gunna Dís, DJ Doddi litli, телеведущий Gísli Marteinn, Eva María, певица Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir и певец Páll Óskar. Национальный отбор
Традиционно, представитель Исландии на Евровидении будет выбран в рамках национального отбора "Söngvakeppnin". Ведущими шоу станут Рагилдур Стейнунн Йонсдоттир и Гудрун Дис Эмильсдоттир.Прием заявок на участие в шоу проводился с 3 сентября по 14 октября, принимались до 2х песен от одного композитора. Всего было получено 297 заявок, и 10 из них, выбранных для участия в шоу, были названы во время программы Kastljós 17 декабря 2013 года.
Два полуфинала из 5 песен пройдут 1го и 8го февраля, и по 2 песни из каждого, выбранные телезрителями, выйдут в финал. После полуфиналов жюри добавит в виде вайлкардов в финал еще 2 композиции, таким образом, доведя общее количество его участников до 6. В рамках финала 15го февраля, первый раунд голосования пройдет с участием телезрителей и профессионального жюри, в нем определятся 2 суперфиналиста, из которых уже только телезрители выберут победителя отборочного этапа. По новым правилам в суперфинале песни должны исполняться на том языке, исполнение на котором планируется на самом Евровидении в мае. Песня-победитель получила приз в 1 млн ислансдких крон.
