Copenhagen has been chosen as host city of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, Danish public broadcaster DR announced on September 2, 2013. The event will be held at the B&W Hallerne at the Refshaleoen, under the slogan 'Join Us'. Motto "Join Us" means Closer to the participants, the music, the Danes, the Europeans and the competition. The former shipyard will undergo all necessary improvements to be able to host three state-of-the-art television shows in May next year. The choice was approved by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU/EUROVISION) and the Reference Group, the contest's governing body on behalf of the participating public broadcasters. Copenhagen has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest two times before; in 1964 and 2001. The Danish capital also hosted the contest's 50th anniversary in 2005.

"We are looking forward to welcoming Europe in Copenhagen, which is full of cultural diversity, has an excellent infrastructure and a variety of hotels. At the chosen venue we have the opportunity to realise our creative ambitions. The entire area around the B&W Hallerne will be transformed into Eurovision Island, where delegates, press and fans will come together", says Pernille Gaardbo, Executive Producer of the 2014 contest at Host Broadcaster DR.

"Copenhagen is one of Europe's most popular tourist destination and has what it takes to host an event of this scale", says Jon Ola Sand, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of EBU/EUROVISION. He adds: "The chosen venue is a bold creative move, and we are confident that the good cooperation between DR and the City of Copenhagen will result in three shows that Europe will remember for a long time!"

B&W site is a unique piece of international industrial history. Constructed on artificial island (or rather peninsula) Refshaleøen in 1872, shipyard was international leader in development of construction of ships and ship engines. Refshaleøen has hosted shipyard until 1996. Today, it serves as a playground for culture and entertainment industry, houses leasure centers, galleries, beach and restaurants, and has already hosted number of high profile events - such as Copenhell festival or Scandinavia Reggae Festival on 30-31st of August. During the last event the location has been labelled as "10 minutes walk from Christiania".

This is a "clean venue" with its raw and industrial look that can tailored exactly as needed. In the many surrounding areas and buildings, there is ample space to meet requirements for production, press, parking, catering, sponsors etc.

"We have an ambition to modernize Eurovision, of course with respect for tradition. Refshaleøen allows us to create a totally new and unique show, because we can decide framework inside and outside. We can tailor halls as needed and give it our very own creative character",

says Pernille Gaardbo, producer of the event. "We have already teamed up with best acousticians and engineers and they guarantee that sound will be fit for professional television production", she adds.

The exact chosen venue for Eurovision is a building from early 1960s commonly known as Jubii hallen (Gossip hall, for it's former sponsor - Danish search engine, not this name will be used during Eurovision, but rather simple B&W hallen) and officially labelled as Sektionshal 2 - it is former shipbuilding hall, which now serves as warehouse for the Royal Theatre - mainly packed in shipping containers. At 50 meters high in the venue is also constructed a High-Ropes Course - A commercial leisure activity, combined with the net at 25 meters high. For Eurovision period this activity will be shut down and net will be removed. Earlier, hall also hosted indoor golf center, and already in 2010 it has been proposed as suitable for major concert productions. Hall has size of 10.000 m2, with dimensions of 55x60x165. It is expected that it will offer capacity of around 10000 viewers for Eurovision and will be decorated and illuminated from outside as well.

In addition to it, as space for delegations, will be used Copenhagen Paintball Arena (Sektionshal 1), which is adjacent to S2. It can also be easily cleared. It provides space of 6000 m2 with dimensions of 45x50x115. It is planned to unite the halls in one and build inside an audience platform of 30 meters high. Office facilities, VIP room, lounges, restaurants will also be build at these venues.

Refshaleøen is approx. 500,000 m2 in size. The Eurovision Park constitutes over 40,000m2 and includes activities, amusements, music events and venues for acquiring food and beverages. B&W Halls are approx. 10,000 m2 in size and 60m from floor to ceiling.

"Eurovision Island will be full of restaurants, bars and an entertainment stage. It will be an environment that uses both the existing facilities but also with more of an edge", says Ulrik Ammundsen, Event Chief at Wonderful Copenhagen. You can read about existing businesses on Refshaleøen here .Around the venue will be build Eurovision Park of over 40.000m2 width, among other activities and rides, musical performances and the ability to get food and drink. Even Royal family ship is expected to be placed in harbour at the venue. HRH Crowne Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary will attend Eurovision final on May 10, while HRH Crown Princess Mary will also attend 3rd rehearsal for 2nd semiifinal on May 8.

4 May, when the big countdown clock strikes zero, Eurovision Song Contest 2014 kicks off at Copenhagen City Hall Square with the official opening ceremony. This is your chance to see all the artists and hosts on the red carpet. Come early to get a good spot along the red carpet, and a chance to get photos of your favourite participants.
The opening ceremony and red carpet event will be a star-studded affair with both new and old Eurovision stars. National final participant, Danish pop star Bryan Rice, will host the red carpet event. Eurovision winners 2000, the Danish Olsen Brothers, will get the party started and play their winning song Fly on the Wings of Love. On the red carpet, you will also be able to catch a glimpse of last year's Eurovision Song Contest winner, Emmelie de Forest, and all the 37 participating countries' artists and their delegations, as they walk to the entrance of Copenhagen City Hall. On the way, they will stop in front of fans and curious onlookers on the red carpet to answer questions and pose for the world press.
Between the many international artists, you will also be able to spot the three Danish TV hosts, Lise Rønne, Nikolaj Koppel and Borgen actor Pilou Asbæk, who are to guide Europe through the Eurovision live shows.
2,000-3,000 spectators are expected to show up for the opening. Everybody is welcome to join the gala event, but remember to get there early. If not, there will be a big screen on the square for you to watch as the stars make their way up the red carpet.

Euroclub

Earlier, it was announced that one of the hippest venues in Copenhagen, VEGA, will be transformed into a giant Eurovision club when the Eurovision Song Contest is coming to Copenhagen next year. Two main rooms - the 1,500-capacity Store Vega, and Lille Vega, with space for 500 - host acts ranging from the likes of British pop wunderkind Ed Sheeran to avant garde legend Thurston Moore. Meanwhile, the ground level Ideal Bar hosts what it describes as 'slightly crooked' music and events - an evening celebrating Lou Reed's 70th birthday, for example.

"Euro Club will be the hottest nightclub in Europe for two weeks during the Eurovision Song Contest. We have booked VEGA, which has two concert halls and three or four nightclubs",

says Martin Bender, the event coordinator at Wonderful Copenhagen. "Just as B & W's old shipyard halls are a unique historical setting for an event of Eurovision caliber, then VEGA with unique 1950s interiors invite to partying in a unique time warp", says Steen Jorgensen, Managing Director of VEGA. "The Wilhelm Lauritzen People's House opened its doors in 1956 - the same year as the first Eurovision Song Contest went live - is obviously a coincidence, but a curious bonus info for hardcore geeks". Euro Club is open April 28th - May 2nd: 22.00-3.00; May 3rd - May 8th: 23.00-4.00; May 9th and May 10th: 0.00-?.

Tim Schou, participant of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 with the group A Friend in London, will be master of ceremonies at the official Euroclub in May. You can find Tim in Store VEGA every night from May 4th to May 10th. Tim will be introducing and interviewing the artists on stage, and of course he will also sing himself. As a special feature the last week up to the Final, EuroClub will present “Tim’s Challenge” where fans get to decide which Eurovision song they would like Tim to sing.

The keywords for this year’s EuroClub are: Playful, loving, fun, familiar, FABULOUS! One person that is the incarnation of all these five words is - Drama Queen. Europe met Drama Queen after she won the Danish pre-competition for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 with the song “Drama Queen”. When EuroClub asked Drama Queen to have an essential role at the club, and she said yes, it was decided to give her her own champagne lounge!. She absolutely loved the idea, and there it was - the EuroClub Lounge was born. You can find Drama Queen in her champagne lounge every night from April 28th to May 10th. She will sing for you, sing with you (if you dare!) and have a lot of fun happenings, quizzes and Eurovision appearances up her sleeve.

South African artist Colé van dais will be performing for the 15 minutes daily from April 28 to May 3 cover versions of Eurovision hits on the main stage of Euroclub. Colé van dais is presented by OGAE Rest of the World.

Special EuroClub wristbands will give one day access to EuroClub and are only available for OGAE members with a valid membership card. The number of available wristbands differs from day to day and it’s first come, first serve. A wristband package consists of a wristband and 2 drink coupons for EuroClub and costs 100 DKK (the price of the 2 drinks - the wristband itself is free). It is not possible to get a wristband without buying the 2 drink coupons. This system is made to ensure that the people picking up the wristbands actually make use of them and come to EuroClub. There is maximum one wristband per person so it is not possible to pick up wristbands for your friends.

The wristbands can be obtained only at: Tourist Information, Vesterbrogade 4A, 1577 Copenhagen. Time: 14.00-16.00 (or until sold out). When all wristbands for a certain day are given out, this will be posted on EuroClub’s Facebook page. If any left, wristbands can also be obtained from the service team outside EuroClub, when EuroClub opens at night.

A limited number of wristbands will be available for presale from April 28 at 14.00. This means that you, if you are fast, can buy wristbands in advance, instead of having to go to the Tourist Office every day.

Euro Fan Café

KBH Huset on Magstræde will house the so-called fan-café in Copenhagen, where thousands of fans and visiting guests will have the opportunity to meet each other and gather around the Eurovision Song Contest. There will be just 200m distance between Euro Fan Café and Eurovision Fan Mile, which will stretch from City Hall to Refshaleøen. Euro Fan Café is open from 28 April to 10 May, and it will be a whole house filled with lots of unique events and activities.

Johann Sørensen, President of OGAE Denmark says: "With its many diverse stages, Huset-KBH allows the Euro Fan Café 2014 to host a wide variety of activities dedicated 100% to the Eurovision Song Contest. Fan mile and Eurovillage

Archive:
21/02: Pride Square.
31/03: Organic food from Copenhagen Cooking on Eurovillage.
07/04: Tribute Walk to 10 Eurovision songs on the Fan Mile.
08/04: Green initiatives for Eurovision in Copenhagen.
23/04: Full Euroweek in Copenhagen schedule released.

As we have informed earlier, it is planned that Copenhagen center will also be involved in the contest, and there will be set up "Eurovision Fan Mile" - a mile full of Eurovision events. There will be three themes for the event programme and all the activities during the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. They are 1. Kids & music 2. Lifestyle & diversity and 3. Sustainability & green solutions.

Inner Copenhagen will be buzzing with sweet music from 4-10 May, when Gammeltorv and Nytorv squares are turned into Eurovision Village. Here, one of the artists from this year’s Danish national final, pop star Bryan Rice will host the party on stage. Head of Events Ulrich Ammundsen from Host City Copenhagen says:

"We want to create a fan zone in the heart of the city for the many Eurovision fans, visitors and locals, and for the people who just happen to be here and get carried away by the atmosphere. The plan is to transform Copenhagen's main pedestrian shopping street, Strøget, into a Fan Mile, which begins at City Hall Square and finishes at Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn harbour. The ambition is to dress the whole shopping street for a party, as we know it from major sporting events. The adjacent squares Gammeltorv/Nytorv will become Eurovision Village. There will be a large screen and a stage with various kinds of entertainment throughout the Eurovision week. You will be able to watch the semifinals and final on a big screen at Gammeltorv/Nytorv Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and Saturday there will also be a big screen viewing at City Hall Square.

The different national Eurovision winners will perform in Eurovillage, when they are not competing at the B&W venue. Copenhagen and the Capital Region's cultural institutions will feature in the programme. We want to show what Copenhagen and the region have to offer in terms of cultural experiences. This could for example be the food festival, Copenhagen Cooking, cooking on the streets. In addition, we have invited a handful of Danish (Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense) and international partner cities (Beijing (since Emmelie De Forest has been invited to tour there), Malmö, Hamburg) to be part of the festivities by hosting a space or square surrounding the Fan Mile",

says Host City Copenhagen's Head of Events Ulrich Ammundsen. The plan is that Beijing and Hamburg will take over Højbro Plads square, and Malmö will take over Kongens Nytorv square.

In addition to the music performances, Eurovision Village will present an organic street food and free tap water area. A green urban space focuses on the city’s green solutions with fun and educational environmental activities for children. Kids will also be able to cut loose in the kids’ zone, and 7 May has been declared Kids’ Day with children’s music and entertainment on stage in Eurovision Village.

Gammeltorv dates back to the foundation of Copenhagen in the 12th century, but most of the buildings were constructed after the Great Fire of 1795 in Neoclassical style. In the middle of the square is The Caritas Well, a Renaissance fountain erected by King Christian IV in 1610. A couple of former city halls have been located on the square.
The adjoining Nytorv is dominated by the Neoclassical facade of the Copenhagen Court House, and has a much more sinister history. The square was once the location of the city's scaffold and pillory. But do not worry, the last executions here took place in 1758.

The Green Room in Eurovision Village is really a green room, with free environmental activities for children and their families during the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen. Plant different spices, create small flowerpots of old newspapers in which you can put sunflower seeds, create small trays of cress in Eurovision style, and taste the wild pesto made of weeds, which you can collect around the city. The green lounge area in Eurovision Village is made of grass and flowers. It is Miljøpunkt Indre by - Christianshavn, who are behind the activities, which are primarily aimed at children. The intention is that the children leave with seeds/cress trays and pots made of recycled newspaper. There are many other, sometimes wild plans, such as setting a weddings spot on Fan Mile where everyone can get married, or a water bar where everyone can go and tap into a glass of water.

At the same time plans for a pre-show activities on Refshaleøen (Eurovision Island) will be a bit limited. "If you have passed through the entire fan mile during the day, you'd probably would like to relax a bit before going into the show", says Ammundsen.

There has been a mess with the rows of B & W Halls for the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen in May. Therefore all already issued tickets for the shows have been cancelled, and corrected ones will be sent out again, annouced today DR. All ticket holders have received today message from Billetlugen:

"As we have already informed, the work with the stands in B & W Halls led to changes of audience seating, resulting in a different numbering than it was originally planned. This means that we replace the physical tickets that you have purchased. If you have already received your tickets - you will now receive new tickets. Previously sent tickets will be canceled and it will not be possible to get through scanning control with them, as their barcoded become void"

According to Billetlugen, the new tickets will be sent out to people by the end of March. Should anyone have any trouble with the change of tickets, Billetlugen will create a special help desk at Refshaleøen in May. "On the actual show days we will have a HelpDesk located at B & W halls. If you bought the ticket(s) you can contact the Help Desk. You must bring a valid photo ID. You must contact us well before the show starts so that we can ensure that you get into the arena in time". Søren Therkildsen, head of relations of the Eurovision Song Contest, says:

"Work on the stands has changed the layout slightly, so it has been necessary to move a small part of the seats. To avoid confusion, we will send tickets out to everyone who bought them. To avoid cheating with the tickets we have decided to issue new tickets to everyone. However, only a small number of people actually will be affected by the changes. Anyone who has purchased tickets will receive tickets that are on par with the tickets they have originally purchased".

Ticket buyers from abroad will also receive new tickets from Billetlugen.

The second round of ticket sales for the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen 5 - 10 May 2014 starts 31 January 2014 at 10:00 CET on Billetlugen.dk. Approximately 1/3 of all tickets for all nine shows will go on sale.

If you are on the waiting list, you will receive a link to the presale, which starts 29 January 2014. You will only receive a presale link to the specific show, you are on the waiting list for. You are not guaranteed a ticket, even if you are on the waiting list. There will be a batch of tickets for the presale and another batch of tickets will not be on sale before 31 January 2014, in order to ensure that everyone has a chance to buy tickets.

The third, and final, round of ticket sales will be in April 2014.

The first batch, approximately one third of the total number of tickets for the show, went on sale on November 29, 2013 at 10.00 CET through Billetlugen.dk. Approximately 10,000 spectators will be fitted into the arena. There will be 3 standing areas in front of the stage including a fan zone. In September last year DR website has reported that cheapest accomodation for Eurovision week according Hotels.com is at 9153 krone (1226 Euro), and only for a hostel. Check on January 18th has shown that the cheapest option for a week is bed in 8-bed dorm room in hostel for 581 Euro (4335 krone). In the week before, you can stay in a real hotel for 3600 krone. That demonstrates that prices have more than doubled for Eurovision weeks. One of the Copenhagen's largest hotel providers Arp Hansen has also decided to put up prices. The cheapest stay, which is Gentofte Hotel, is costing 11,334 kroner, while in the week before the Grand Prix it costs 8814 DKK. In week 15 - ie a month before Eurovision - it only costs 5714 krone. The most expensive is stay on a Copenhagen Island. The cost of a room during the Grand Prix is 17,000 crowns, while the price in the previous week is 7988 DKK and a month before only 5148 DKK for one week. Arp Hansen CEO Dorte Krak has stated: " During Eurovision in May 2013 our hotels have been fully booked most of the month due to the many activities within the business life and culture. Our pricing reflects, of course, how busy we estimate that the period will will be in a city at any given time. The month of May is one of the year's busiest months anyway, so we price our hotel rooms after the expected demand".

The Eurovision accreditation badge does not give access to the public transportation in Copenhagen. In order to get access to public transportation for free, accredited person should ask for a voucher at the Transportation Service Centre, located in the Press Area. Following the instructions on the voucher, one will receive a Travel Pass on the mobile phone. With this Travel Pass one has access to all public transportation in Greater Copenhagen area for the following 72 hours. One can get a new voucher once he needs transportation for further days.

There will be shuttle buses serving the official hotels, arena and EuroClub, for members of delegations, accredited press and accredited fans. There will be common pick up points for some hotels located in the city centre. There will be two shuttle routes, both routes will have an extra stop in the evenings: EuroClub.
The shuttle will start in the morning corresponding to the opening hours of the press centre (most days it opens at 10:00). From 27 April to 4 May, the shuttle will run every 30 minutes.
Shuttle schedules can be found in the reception areas of all official hotels and at the Transportation Service Centre. All delegates and journalists will also be given access and encouraged to use bicycles for their journeys.

Copenhagen's bus system consists of regular buses as well as harbour buses. Comprehensive bus map of whole city can be found here and map of the center here. Travel by train, bus and metro can be scheduled electronically through rejseplanen.dk.
There are several types of bus available: regular buses are simply denoted by their number;
The seven A-buses are the primary buses in central Copenhagen. They drive every 3-7 minutes during rush hour (which is between 07:00-09:00 in the morning and 15:30-17:30 in the afternoon) and usually about every 10 minutes before and after rush hour. The A-buses serve around-the-clock;
The S-buses drive every 5-10 minutes during rush hour and every 20 minutes outside of rush hour. The S-buses are faster than the A-busses due to fewer stops. They usually serve between 06:00 in the morning and 01:00 at night;
Besides A-buses, there are specific N-buses in Copenhagen that are in service between 01:00 at night and 05:00 in the morning. The ticket price is the same as during the day.

Bus 11A is a citybus that only drives in inner Copenhagen. It will take you to the biggest attractions in town. It is an electrical bus, which means it emits less CO2 than cars and regular buses. The citybus ticket is the same as a regular bus ticket, and 11A will take you to Nørreport, Copenhagen Central Station, Strøget, Nyhavn among other places.
11A bus will significantly change it's route during ESC week

Copenhagen also offers buses on water, also known as the harbour bus. The harbour buses sail between Refshaleøen and Teglholmen and have several stops in between. They sail every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 45 minutes during the weekend. Furthermore, there is a harbour bus that sails back and forth between Nyhavn and the Opera on weekdays and before/after performances at the Opera. The harbour bus requires the same tickets as a regular bus.

Regularly Refshaleøen (Eurovision island) is served by bus 40, which operates from 5am to midnight, but runs just 1-2 times in an hour, journey from Central Station will take 20 minutes (view schedule, route map),
as well as harbour bus 992 (to) and 991 (from island), operating from 7.30 to 20.30 as water transportation usually is not allowed in dark hours (view schedule, route map). From April 13, all 991/992 buses serve Refshaleøen making frequence approximately once per every 40 minutes.

The nearest round-of-clock bus stop is of bus 9A at Fabrikmestervej, roughly 1.7 km away from the venue (view schedule, route plan).

For Eurovision week several changes will be brought:
• Some sort of water vehicles will be operating between Nyhavn and Refshaleøen 10.00-16.00 and 17.00-20.00, as well as back way 13.00-02.30. That will include harbour bus line 991/992, that instead of a normal route, will be operating as shuttle from Nyhavn to Refshaleøen on 05/05-08/05 starting 11.30, on 09/05 from 10.30 and on 10/05 - the whole day. It will take approximately 10-15 minutes to get to the venue. There will also sail six harbor cruise boats on the same route. The four port buses (capacity 65 passengers) and six harbor cruise boats (capacity 135 passengers) can carry a total of 6,760 passengers in three hours. Each of 10 vehicles will have 2 departures per hour. Everyone is encouraged to take the trip by boat over to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen) - the ambition is that 60 percent of the guests sail to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen).
• From Copenhagen Central Station, take bus 9A. During Eurovision week (May 5, 2014 05:00 - 11 May 2014 05:00) the route will be extended and therefore runs to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen). There will be 18 extra buses deployed from 10.00 to 20.00, as well as two hours after the shows. All extra bus services will be marked with a Eurovision logo. From the Central Station it takes approx. 20-25 minutes. It is expected that 5000 viewers can reach halls by bus.
Meanwhile it is important to note that on May 5-10 bus 40 route will end at Kraftværksvej/Amagerværke, thus not serving stops Refshaleøen and Lynetten.
• Metro to Christianshavn, where 9A runs to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen).
• 650 parking spaces per show will be available by Gasværksgrunden Sundby (Please note: Closed parking. Parking should be prepaid at time of ticket purchase at Billetlugen, cost 75 DKK) There will be a shuttle service from Gasværksgrunden to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen), which will be open to everyone, not only those using the parking. Bus runs on the route Gasværksgrunden Amager Strandvej - Prags Boulevard – Raffinaderivej – Forlandet - Kløvermarksvej - Refshaleøen. It is possible to park cars outside the centre - in Ørestad, Nordhavn or outer Nørrebro and to continue trip from there by public transport. However, it is strongly recommended that people leave their cars at home and instead take public transport.
• Walking and cycling along the newly constructed bike and pedestrian path to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen). It is estimated that approximately 1000 audience per show will arrive by bicycle.
• Taxi (possibility of taxi drop off and taxi pick up)

The capacity of transport via water has been increased, and taxis have been permitted access to the island. In addition, new bike lanes have been built in the area, partly to improve road safety for cyclists. Daily between 17,000 and 22,000 spectators will be transported back and forth to Refshaleøen, divided into two shows each day, so a maximum of 11,000 spectators for a single show. Therefore try Host City Copenhagen to ensure good traffic experience with good buffer: The traffic plan gives them the capacity to transport 15,800 people to Eurovision Island within three hours.

There will be a large audience area outside B&W Hallerne, where there will be Eurovision atmosphere with music, food and beer stalls. It will serve extra task - to help Eurovision guests gather on the Island earlier, and keep them entertained after the show to leave later. All audience must also pass a security check before you enter the area. Come early – like a few hours before the show starts! If guests come in good time, the waiting time will be reduced. It is clear that one will experience an increased amount of buses on Christianshavn Torv and Prinsessegade street, but more than half of the guests will be sailed to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen), driven in shuttles from the parking ground, arriving in taxis, or choose to cycle or walk, so hopefully the pressure on the Christianshavn area will be bearable. The voluntary Eurovision Guides will be at selected locations and traffic hubs around Copenhagen and will be ready to assist you with questions about getting to Eurovision Island (Refshaleøen). You can read more about how the buses run at Movia website.

EuroClub (Enghavevej 40) is 15-minute walk from Copenhagen Central is 10-minute walk from Enghave metro station. It is served by buses 10, 14 (stops Haderslevgade/Flensborggade or Enghave Plads) and round-the-clock bus 3A (stops Tove Ditlevsens Plads or Enghave Plads). The easiest way to get there is to step on bus 10 or 14 at back side of Central Station. The last bus back runs at 00.30.

EuroCafé (Rådhusstræde 13) is served by buses 1A, 2A, 11A, 26, 40, 66 (stop Stormbroen). Eurovillage is located at walking distance from EuroCafé or can be reached from Rådhuspladsen (buses 5A, 6A, 10, 14).

Areas around Nytorv and Gammeltorv squares, where Eurovision Village is will be closed for traffic during Eurovision period. Rådhusstræde street will also be blocked off. Then there are parts around Højbro Plads square that will be cut off.

The Copenhagen Metro runs from Vanløse through the city centre and branches to either the new-town of Ørestad or to the airport. The Metro has no timetable and between Vanløse and Christianshavn trains run with a four minute interval (two minutes during peak hours). It runs nonstop at night with fifteen minute intervals. The trains run automatically and are without drivers, so the doors will close at a given time, even if all waiting passengers have not entered the train. Nearest metro stop to the venue is Christianshavn station, located 4 km away from it, from that you can use buses 40 or 9A as described above.

The S-train service is the backbone of the city's public transit system. All S-train lines travel through Copenhagen Central Station, except the F-line. The system runs from early morning to late night, each line in ten minute intervals during the day (M-F 6AM-6PM) and at twenty minute intervals in the early morning and late at night. In the weekends, the trains run once an hour at night (except the F-line which runs twice an hour at night) and some of the lines are extended. S-trains are connected to Metro lines at Nørreport and Flintholm stations. Always buy a ticket before boarding the train or metro. Onboard the buses, you also have the possibility to buy your ticket from the driver, if you bring small change. The same ticket can be used in the metro, bus, train and harbour bus. Always have your ticket with you in case a conductor wants to see it. If you are unable to present a valid ticket you will be fined DKK 750.

A regular ticket is a single trip ticket. You have to buy the amount of zones needed to get to your destination. 2 and 3 zone tickets are valid for one hour. 4, 5 and 6 zone tickets are valid for an hour and a half. 7, 8 and 9 zone tickets are valid for two hours. Zone tickets cost between DKK 24 (for 2 zones) and DKK 108 (for all zones).

The inner city makes zone 1. The fare is calculated by how many zones you travel through, the minimum charge being 2 zones. For Eurovision, most fans are likely to stay within zones 1-2, so their travel will usually be covered by 2-zone tickets. However, Copenhagen Airport is located at zone 3, and 3-zone ticket will be required to get from it to the city center. An all zone ticket will get you to Elsinore, Roskilde or Frederikssund in the capital region. Normal single trip tickets can be bought at the station vending machines, DSB ticket stores, 7 Eleven stores or or on the bus. However, please note that you should bring coins if you plan on buying tickets from the bus driver. The machines at the stations will accept coins as well as credit cards.

If you plan to travel by public transport a couple of times during your visit, you can save money by buying a 10 trip ticket (klippekort). 10 trips in 2 zones costs DKK 150, i.e. DKK 15 per ride, 10 trips in 3 zones - 200 DKK. Discount cards are available for 10 journeys within two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight or all zones. If, for instance, you buy a discount card for two zones, you have to punch the number of times corresponding to the number of zones you’ll be travelling through, in the machines on the station platform or inside the bus. Several people can travel together on a discount card.

You can also pay with Smartphone. Download the app Mobilbilletter Hovedstaden in App Store and Google Play and pay for your tickets on the go. Once you have downloaded the app, click on Indstillinger in the right hand lower corner and click on English under Sprog. Then you will get the English version of the app. From there you can select the fare you need and enter your credit card details. Ticket can also be bought online at 1415.dk.

With a 24-hour ticket you can travel for 24 hours unlimited by bus, train, metro and harbour bus in all the zones of the capital region, including trips to Roskilde, Elsinore or other parts of North Sealand. The 24-hour adult ticket costs DKK 130.

The City Pass gives you unlimited access to buses, trains, metro and harbour buses in zones 1, 2, 3 and 4, which includes the centre of Copenhagen and to and from the airport. An adult 24-hour City Pass costs DKK 75 and an adult 72-hour City Pass costs DKK 190. If you are under 16, a 24-hour City Pass costs DKK 40 and a 72-hour City Pass costs DKK 90. Buy this ticket at the airport, station or online.

A Copenhagen Card gives you unlimited travel on buses, trains, metro and harbour buses in all zones in the capital region. In addition, you get free entrance to 75 major attractions and museums as well as discounts in several restaurants, sights, car rental and more. The card is valid for either 24, 48, 72 or 120 hours.

If you wish to use the travel card Rejsekort, you can buy an anonymous card called Rejsekort anonymt. This type of card does not require an address or any personal information. The card itself costs DKK 80, and when you buy it at a ticket office or one of the Rejsekort machines, there will be added another DKK 100 for your future travels. Cards purchased at a kiosk or a supermarket will cost DKK 250 - which is DKK 80 for the card and an extra DKK 170 for future travels. Additionally, the balance on the card cannot go below 75 kr to start your new travel. With this card you need to check in and out of the public transport.

Taxis are abundant throughout the city. They are pricey though, and the wait to get one can be long on a Friday or Saturday night. You can hail a taxi on the street or call for one to come pick you up at a specific address at a specific time for a small extra fee (12-15 Kr). It is not common to haggle about the price. If you wish to pay with a credit card, you must present it for the driver at the beginning of the trip. All taxis accept major international credit cards and most will accept Euro cash payment and some even list prices in Euros on the meter. Prices range 11-16 Kr per kilometer depending on the time of day and the meter flag-fall charge is 25 Kr.

Travel from Kastrup airport:

Logo

On December 18 Danish broadcaster, DR, has unveiled the official logo for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. The design is in the shape of a diamond and features the #JoinUs slogan that will be used for the contest in Copenhagen. DR executive producer, Pernille Gaardbo, says the design symbolises what the Eurovision Song Contest is all about:

"It's a hub that is sparkling and strong. The diamond has lots of different facets and shows the diversity and the wealth that comes to stand on the Eurovision stage. It visually emphasises the approach we have to Eurovision 2014: The raw B & W Haller combined with the sparkling show, and in the middle of the stage, the diamond as a unifying force. A diamond is indeed the finest material as it both unifies and energises. If we can do what we dream of being able to do – to move and move people – it’s the best that can be achieved. We wanted to express that through the diamond".

Danish press was for the first time today invited inside B&W Hallerne to witness Eurovision 2014 stage. The stage has been revealed by show manager Jan Lagermand Lundme and producer Per Zachariassen at a press conference in B & W Halls on Refshaleøen.

Eurovision stage consists of an illuminated cube, which may become transparent at times. Behind it stands a wall of lights and LED screens - and in front it is filled with water. The inspiration, according to the set designer Claus Zier comes from the bow of a ship cutting through the water.

The scene is a large 'cube' that is hollowed out so that each of the 37 artists can stand in the middle of it, or go full out to the crowd of 10,000 spectators. The stage is 35 meters wide and 20 meters high, with catwalks extending 16 meters out into the hall. As background, it has a giant LED rear wing, 100 meters long and 13 meter high, that can display pictures and animation during the show.

The cube is built up of 120 cube-shaped modules, and is coated with a specific form of the projection film, which makes it possible to give the cube several different terms: It can either be transparent, so you can look through the cube and see the big LED screen in the background, or it can also be used to project images and movies on it, so the cube turns into a small, enclosed room. There are also mounted 10 dance floors in the cube, which one can get to via long ladders on back side of the cube. So that may properly come to life in the big cube.

The stage floor can be used to create visual effects: It consists of a 13 x 13 meter interactive LED surface which react as a touch screen, and for example creating the illusion of footprints in the snow when the singers moving around the stage.

In addition, the stage itself, like Denmark and the Eurovision Island, is lined with the water: In a vast pool around the stage there are 40 m3 of water, which can be used both as swimming pool and as a launching platform for fire and fireworks.

The stage in Copenhagen will be very impressive (17 x 17 m), the capacity of the venue is a bit smaller than in Malmo (7000-8000 Seats and 2000-3000 standing).Head of Show, Jan Lagermand Lundme says that DR has a clear ambition to link the stage design and show to the fascinating historic industrial area surrounding Refshaleøen. Right now a lot of work is being done to ensure the halls' raw and industrial look is preserved, but at the same time DR are very keen to make sure that the accoustics are as good as possible in time for the show. "Right now we are working to place the stage right in the middle of B&W Hallerne, where the party will take place, because the stage will then become an island and a centre. It is here the participants will shine and here we will come together"

Claus Zier has been appointed stage designer by DR and will be responsible for the scenography of 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Together with three other architects he is already working 24 hours a day to create the perfect setting at the B&W Halls on Eurovision Island in Copenhagen. He has made the stage design for shows like X Factor, The Voice Denmark, Dancing With The Stars and Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the Danish national final for Eurovision. His ambition is to create the biggest, most beautiful and surprising show that makes the Danes proud and unites Europe.

"It is a fantastic opportunity to create a magnificent show in this rusty industrial hall. I have been out to have a look and you can feel the hall's history when you are in it. The transformation we have to make is incredibly fascinating. The stage has to be strong enough visually that no one is in any doubt that it is the same show, even though each country has a different expression. We have a fanastic amount of height that we want to take advantage of, and we want to make magic in this space."

During the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, the Green Room will once again be placed inside the actual arena. The Green Room will sit like an island in an enormous sea of people when the Eurovision Song Contest is broadcast to millions of viewers from Refshaleøen in Copenhagen in May. DR are looking to enhance the competition, says DR's Head of Show, Jan Lagermand Lundme.

"Our audience, our viewers and our artists will enjoy the experience of being close to everything, and as we want the Green Room to play a central role in the shows, it is as such natural to move it closer to the actual show and into the hall. I Hope it will help to create an absoolutely fantastic atmosphere in the arena, and that atmosphere will of course be radiated out through television sets all over Europe, so the viewers will also be able to feel the excitement and party from the hall".

The decision to move the Green Room into the arena means that it has been necessary to change some of the audience placements. This means that members of the audience that purchased tickets to the show back in November will be issued with new tickets by post. This will happen automatically and DR promises that the new tickets are in the same category and at the same level as the original tickets.

Hosts

Three hosts of Eurovision 2014 will be Lise Rønne,35, Nikolaj Koppel,44, and Johan Philip "Pilou" Asbæk,31.

Pernille Gaardbo, Executive Producer of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest comments:

"I am very happy to announce our decision. It is – in itself – a huge task to be the host of a live TV-show, but the Eurovision Song Contest is the world's largest music competition, and that puts exceptional demands on the hosts. The hosts need to keep their cool, be professional to the highest degree, and appeal to the whole world. I am confident that Nikolaj, Pilou and Lise will fill this role completely and that Europeans will feel the enthusiasm and warmth that we are trying to make part of the show."

Jan Lagermand Lundme, Head of Show, says: "They are completely different and compliment each other perfectly. As far as I know, we have not seen this constellation of men and one woman before in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. We want to do something completely different, and the three hosts will each have their own role, which makes a lot of sense. Nikolaj Koppel is the classic host, and is great at keeping control of the rules and points, at the same time he is in very good company. Lise Rønne is extremely empathetic and good at talking to the artists, which is important as I'd very much like for us to spend more time in the Green Room in order to get closer to the participants. And Pilou Asbæk is the surprise, who brings something quite unexpected to the show". Nikolaj Koppel and Lise Rønne are both hosts employed by DR. They bring significant experience from large TV-productions in prime time, and can draw on their background from many other hosting roles. Despite this, they both agree that the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest is in a league of its own.

Nikolaj Koppel says: "You can't really compare being the host of the Eurovision Song Contest with much else. It is a task in a league of its own. I will do my utmost to reach out to every corner of Europe and the world, so everyone can enjoy and feel welcome at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest."
Lise Rønne continues: "This is something of a dream job for me – I am both excited and a little daunted by the task ahead, but I can't wait to get started. I see my role as trying to create a sense of calm and closeness in the middle of a giant show. When all that is said, I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to the party!"

Pilou Asbæk will have his debut as a TV-host for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Although he is a new TV-host, he comes to the job with great experience as an actor – including as the star of DR's political drama series, Borgen, which has been shown in more than 70 countries worldwide. Pilou Asbæk comments: "When I was offered the job as host, I didn't have any doubts whatsoever. I just had to do this. When I think about what lies ahead, I must admit that I am a little nervous – but I will do everything in my power to become a great host for the Eurovision Song Contest. I am sure that this will be a fantastic experience - and a party that everyone is invited to join!"

Hosts have been revealed today at 11.00 during press-conference that took place Odd Fellow Palæet on Bredgade street in Copenhagen and was hosted by Tina Gøtzche. Also present were Eurovision organizers Pernille Gaardbo and Jan Lagermand Lundme.

Her moment at Eurovision will be invaluable in launching her career there with a television audience of more than 180 million estimated to tune in. During the second semi-final in Copenhagen "a new country that is applying to ESC will be allowed to be in it", says member of Reference Group Thomas Schreiber. Thomas Schreiber mentions no names, just says that it is a country outside of Europe that is an associate member of EBU. The application takes the form of interval acts in Semi 2. "If they would participate, I would feel as a real strengthening of the ESC".

Postcards

You can find first glimpse of postcards of Austria, Finland and The Netherlands in this video from Eurovision In Concert in Amsterdam.

Shooting of Eurovision 2014 postcards has begun in Vienna. Conchita Wurst is being filmed by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) was filmed in the imperial context of the Schoenbrunn Palace Theatre - a very formal setting, which was further emphasized by 70 baroque-style robes and dresses that can be seen, all elegant and glittering. Conchita Wurst worked alongside her stylist Tamara Mascara and stated: "We had a great atmosphere on the set. Of course the theme of clothes and dresses fits very well - Tamara and I had a lot of fun."

"Conchita is fabulous. The announcement that she was going to represent Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest was widely featured all over the Danish media. I like her as a character that symbolizes tolerance. We've now worked together for one day - she is a true performer and it's fun to record with her. I hope that the recording sessions will be like this one in the 36 other countries too", said Danish producer.

Report from the shootings will be aired on Thursday on ORF2 in "Heute leben" and "Seitenblicke".

03 04 06 09 11 12

Jan Lagermand Lundme, DR’s Head of Show says that the big change will be introduced in the format of the postcards, moving them away from the traditional approaches.

"We are going to get rid of the postcards and produce portraits instead. We don’t want to show tourist films from Denmark or the participants' countries, but use the 50 seconds to create a little portrait of the participant who is going on stage instead . The viewers will get to know them so they can feel what sort of person is performing and standing on stage".

This task DR will be implementing in collaboration with film company Treshow, filming will begin in early February. Countries have been given the task of creating their flag from any material, and with the country's representative at the center of the video. DR and EBU will be helping with filming sessions and production of the final videos. "We will show Denmark in a different way than through postcards. We are innovative and want to move competition in a more modern direction", explains Jan Lagermand Lundme.

07/04: Tribute Walk

Существует несколько видов автобусов: обычные автобусы имеют обычные цифровые номера;
Семь A-автобусов являются основными маршрутами в центральном Копенгагене. Они отправляются каждые 3-7 минут в час пик (между 07:00-09:00 утром и 15:30-17:30 днем) и обычно каждые десять минут в остальное время. А-автобусы ездят круглосуточно;
S-автобусы отправляются каждые 5-10 минут в час пик и каждые 20 минут в остальное время. Поездка на них займет меньшее время, чем на А-автобусах, поскольку они совершают меньше остановок. Обычно они ходят между 06:00 утра и 01:00 ночи;

Маршрут шаттла - Gasværksgrunden Amager Strandvej - Prags Boulevard – Raffinaderivej – Forlandet - Kløvermarksvej - Refshaleøen.

Højbro Plads square.

X Factor, The Voice Denmark, Dancing With The Stars

Eurovision School Contest
