| Sharon Cohen, professionally known as Dana International (born as
Yaron Cohen, on 2 February 1972) is most famous for having won the 1998 Eurovision Song
Contest with her song "Diva". She is arguably one of the most famous transsexual
celebrities in the world. Her career began in 1992, and since then she has released eight
albums and three additional compilation albums, positioning herself as one of Israel's
most successful musical acts ever. Though born biologically male, Dana identified herself as a female from a very young age. She came out as transsexual at the age of 13. She wanted to become a singer ever since she was eight years old and saw legendary Israeli singer Ofra Haza performing in the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest. At 18-years-old Dana earned a living as Israel's first drag queen parodying many famous singers and women. During one of her performances, she was discovered by Offer Nissim, one of Israel's most famous DJs, who produced her debut single "Saida Sultana". In 1993, International flew to London for male-to-female sex reassignment surgery and legally changed her name to Sharon Cohen. Returning home she released her first album, becoming Gold in Israel and also released in Greece, Jordan, and Egypt. In 1994 Dana released her second, Trance-influenced album Umpatampa, which was even more successful and provided further hit singles. The album went platinum in Israel and has sold more than 50,000 copies to date. She won the award for Best Female Artist of the Year in Israel. In 1995 first tries herself in Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 2nd in preselection with "Layla Tov, Eropa". In 1996, Dana released her third album, Maganuna also reaching Gold status. In 1998 Dana was chosen to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Diva" and took Europe by storm, winning the contest with 174 points and making Dana an international superstar. Single reached number 11 in the UK charts and the top ten in Sweden, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, and the Netherlands, selling more than 400,000 copies worldwide. In May 1999 Dana was a part of the interval act in the Eurovision and sang the Stevie Wonder song "Free". She also presented the award to the winners of the contest but accidentally fell over on stage making it one of the most memorable moments in the 50-year-long history of the contest. She released her next album Free in Europe in 1999 followed by releases in Japan and Israel. In 2001, after a break, Cohen released her seventh album Yoter Ve Yoter. In 2002, she released another album, HaHalom HaEfshari and in 2003, she released an exclusive 8 CD box set. A few
years later, in 2005, Dana participated in the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision song
contest, held in Copenhagen, after "Diva" was selected as one of fourteen songs
considered to be the best Eurovision songs. The song did however not make it into the
final top five, but Dana got the chance to perform both "Diva" and an old
Eurovision favourite of hers; Baccara's 1978 entry "Parlez-Vous Francais?". Sinead O'Connor said about her: she inspires me and gives me courage. Jean Paul Gaultier called her my muse and the in 1998, Time magazine chose her as one of the important people in the world. Dana International's story is not only the story of a successful singer; it is a rare and inspiring story about courage and the victory of the human spirit. This year, Dana represents Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest once again with the song Ding Dong written by her. She writes, "if you have a dream of your own, don't be afraid go on with your heart, close your eyes and hear the bells of your soul", something that probably describes her life story; a Cinderella story of success that proves to everyone that our lives are not a predetermined fate. Our lives are in our hands and if we stick with our truth, without being afraid and with inner faith, any dream can come true. |

short teaser of the new video clip of 'Ding Dong', Israel's 2011 Eurovision Song Contest
entry, was released today. The video was directed by Uri Schitzer was shot a few weeks ago
and some details of it were presented at the press-conference earlier. The complete video
is to be released soon. These days Dana International is visiting Moscow, which is 3rd stop in her promotional tour after Dublin and London. She is just one of few performers touring Russia before the Eurovision - besides her in Moscow were also artists from Sweden, Armenia and Moldova. |

International shot the music video clip for "Ding Dong" and gave a press
conference to the media. The video clip is directed by Uri Schitzer. "It is true I was not thrilled on going to Eurovision again, and let my manager presuade me into it", quotes Dana British fan site ESCToday, "But life is always like that - you take decisions and just later on find if they were wise or not. I trust my team and know I am in good hands. Besides, It was a childhood dream of mine, to win the Kdam-Eurovision (national final), so it was worth it!", she said. "Unlike in 1998, this time I intend to represent my country, but also myself. Of course I hope for the best result and a nice place in the top, but I always remind myself its just a game and I wish to enjoy it much more". Regarding the expectations from the contest Dana International told the press that she is not expecting her to win the contest but she will be satisfied with a Top 5 in the final. "Everyone who knows something in Eurovision, knows that polls mean nothing. The winner isn't necessarily the best song, it all depends on the show on stage. Last year I never thought Lena could win the contest, and I was not amazed by Norway in 2009 either. In 2008, Sweden had an excellent song, which should have won. The only problem was that the singer looked like an alien, with all that botox... That was the reason she finished 18th", she said. Dana said she has a lot of appreciation for Lena, trying again this year for Germany and wished her the best of luck in the contest. Dana International is expected to fly to Paris next week, to meet with French fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, who is again responsible for her outfit for Eurovision. |

Dana International has been released. This is the version that Dana will perform at the
Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany. Written by Dana International herself, it has been
produced by Doron Plascow, Asa Rauiu and Omri Angel. 'Ding Dong' is currently at the Top
of the Israeli airplay chart and is becoming a massive hit; remixes of the song will soon
be available. On April 10th Dana will be shooting her official video clip for "Ding
Dong"; more details to be announced. On May 9th 2011, Israel's Independence Day, Dana will be celebrating 13 years of success, winning the Eurovision 1998 with the song "Diva" and becoming a worldwide smash. |

| Artists continue working on choice of outfits for the Eurovision 2011. New approach to this has been taken by Israeli Dana International. At the national contest she had a dress made by local designer, but for the international competition she received a phone call from an old friend - Jean Paul Gaultier, who offered her again to choose a dress from his latest collection. Dana has performed in 1998 contest in Galit Levy's dress, while she chose to wear Gaultier's outfit only at the reprise performance. She also performed in his dress at Congratulations show. Gautier proposed to Dana selection of 8 new collection dresses to choose from. Israeli broadcaster IBA has revealed the full list of the participants in Kdam Eurovision
2011, to be held on March 8th in the Culture Hall of Rishon Lezion. The songs will be
premierred on Reshet Gimmel Radio, IBA1 and Eurovil website a week before contest. In December 2010, IBA announced that Kdam Eurovision will return to Channel 1, and there will be multi-artist preselection. IBA has opened the call for artists to submit their entries and well as inviting several of them directly. EBU has also allowed Israel will compete in the second semi-final on 12 May to avoid a withdrawal due to the first semi-final taking place on the Israeli Memorial Day. |
