| Krassimir was born in the small Bulgarian town of Sliven on 5th of
November 1969, but later on moved to Bulgaria’s capital Sofia, where he studied and
worked. Krassimir’s star began rising in his homeland at the early age of 9. As a young
mime, he became well known in performance circles throughout Bulgaria and Eastern Europe
as a master of conveying ideas through body language. A graduate of the National Academy
for Theatrical and Film Arts (NATFIZ), he trained in pantomime under the guidance of the
famous Professor Vassil Indzhev. But Krassimir, being blessed with a very rare and unique male
voice, the tenor-altino, could not stay silent for long. He took lessons with the great
opera prima and vocal coach Penka Gekova, who inspired him and taught him to master his
newfound talent. His 1997 debut album, "Silent Voices" got in top 10 of pop
charts in Bulgaria. In 1999 Krassimir moved to Los
Angeles, CA in search of something more. But the fame and renown he enjoyed as a pop star
in his native country did not follow. So he started over. |

болгарском городе Сливен 5 ноября 1969 года, но

| - Hello, Krassimir, and first of all our congratulations
for being selected Bulgarian representative at Eurovision 2009! What do you feel now,
being Eurovision participant? - It is a big emotion. Because you and your song are chosen among many other great ones to represent your country in front of Europe. It’s a big responsibility and on the same time something that makes you really proud. - Can you tell us how you’ve got a decision to enter this year’s national Bulgarian pre-selection? Was the song “Illusion” written specially for the contest? Can you tell us the story of its creation? - Living in the USA I had my successes, but I have always had this nostalgy feeling for Bulgaria and I wanted to make somenthing for my country. That’s how come the idea to me and my producer William Tabanou together to prepare a song for the Eurovision Contest. The song is written especially for the contest. We wanted to make the song in the ESC format, to have the hit element, to have the bulgarian signature with the folklore nuances and of course to have my specific mark - combination of pop and opera. That’s how we ended with “Illusion” - How can you describe your song in one phrase? - Eurovision experiment! - After you won the national selection, you had to face some critics for the performance in the national final. What went wrong there? - Well, what went wrong is simple the jealousy of my colleagues who have lost. The first drama for them was the huge difference, between the 1st and 2nd place, I won with 55% of the votes and the second place had only 11%. So it is normal to have jealousy and angry reactions. But in the matter of fact bulgarian people love the song “Illusion”. Immediately after the realize of the music video it become a hit and this was months before the Semi Final and the Final. Because I was for ten years outside Bulgaria, for my colleagues I seem just a stranger and undeserving to be a winner. Which is without logic, because people vote for a song, people vote for what they like. “Illusion” is original and different and it was chosen for that reason. - Now, you have been joined by a great backing vocal team, Petya and Ani, what can you tell about experience working with them? - I know them from the past, I have been working together with Petya and Ani ten years ago. I know their vocal abilities, their discipline, their talent. There’s nothing better to work with people you know and you feel very comfortable. - Are you personally satisfied with the current production of the song? Or you would still prefer the old initial version? - In the matter of fact, those are two the same version with little different sounds. I decided as a composer to make few changes to the sound in order to make the song more inspirational and powerful for the stage performance. - To stop all the critics, possibly you need to perform the stage version of “Illusion” live in some TV show, will this happen before Moscow? - I really don’t think the critics will ever stop. Illusion is a controversial song, it became a symbol of hate and love. I don’t think I need to sing live to prove something. In a matter of fact we already perform the song live but not as an answer to the critics, just because we were invited to some events and shows. - What aim have you set for yourself in the contest? - I really want to be modest / ha ha /. To win the contest. Amin! - You have filmed absolutely great video for the song, can you tell us more about it? Do you plan to transfer atmosphere from the video, costumes etc, to the stage presentation? - Thank you . The concept of the video is deep and provokative, you have love, hate and mystery. It was made in November in Bulgaria in a very short term, we had only two days of making. When we started think about our stage performance by the time we came very close to the idea to use the theme of the music video of the song as a base. Let’s say it will be one modern way for us to bring the spirit and the athomosphere of medieval centuries. The project for the stage is really impressive and non standart. - You have been spending most of the time recently in US, had you a chance to follow Eurovision Song Contest? What are your thoughts on the show in general? - I had the chance to follow the contest for the last five years. As a musician of course I am interested as far as music goes and changes in time. I appreciate this kind of contest because you really hear a lot of music and very different melodies. European imagination can really go far. And I love this. - You have recorded several remixes for Illusion with Deep Zone. Have you spoken to them about their ESC experience, may be they gave some advices to you? - The only thing they have told me was just to go and to have fun. And I really expected to hear something more. - You have recently launched your promotional tour from stop in Macedonia. Do you think in general that pre-contest promotion is important for the contest success? - I consider the promo tour as very important part of the contest. It is not only necessary to hear the song , people have to be introduced to it, to have one complete vision of what stays behind the song, the personalities, the performance, this so called first contact. From the TV the audience sees one thing, alive there is completely different emotion. - What do you think is more important for Eurovision success: song, performer or the show? - Everything of course. We call it Eurovision, exactly because it is a combination of all. People not only listen to the song, they listen with their eyes as well. - Eurovision is sometimes labeled as political contest. Do you think of it as political event? - I am not really familiar with this, some called it political, some not. But to me as an artist is important to perform, to sing my soul out and to enjoy my time being there. I would l prepare myself differently if I know this is a political event. /ha ha/ Hopefully in this case I believe it's not. - Re-introduction of juries in Eurovision – a welcomed change? - I will say what I already said. I think it is a brilliant idea! The juries, comprising music professionals, will listen to the songs more carefully and the people will listen but watch the show as well. So, I think, the balance between the two of them will be the perfect way to evaluate our efforts. - Had you already a chance to listen to other participating entries? - Of course, I had listen all the songs that will participate in the ESC 2009. I cannot be specific and mention names, but I can say that I have my favourites. And I wish very good luck to all of the participants. - Let's speak briefly on your career. What you consider as the main highlight in it? - One of my big goals was to make my dream album which is already a reality. In 2005 was realized “Popera” which is my personal signature as music and lyrics. This is my mark, something that I love to do and sing. Other dream that I was following was to have my solo concert at the Kodak Theater – the home of the Oscars and I am happy to say that this also became a reality. - What are your biggest music influences? - Sarah Brightman, U2, Shostakovich - You’re working in a new style of pop-opera, but have you tried to perform classic opera arias? - No I never have , I really love pop opera, this is my mark. But if I get invitation to sing opera, I will be very pleased to try such a challenge, I am very open to this. - Any new releases you’re working on now? - Yes, I am writing the second album – Popera 2. I have written over 20 songs until now and I have to choose 10 of them for the album. - And our usual question - can you name us any singers you know coming from ex-USSR, Russia , Ukraine ? - I would mention something that I really like - Alla Pougachova and the group Ivanoushki International. And great admiration of course to your last year participant Dima Bilan, who brought in Eurovision to Moscow. - Finally, if you wish to leave any message to the visitors of our site you can do it now. - We live at the 21st century, we live in a world where the pain and aggression dominates. Eurovision is a forum for arts and music , a forum where art people meet, people with fine soul , people that have kept the innocent inside. We are all winners already. Only one will be the first. But all of us will be there, united by different nations, religions, colors to make people happier and to give a light of brightness into the dark . Krasimir Avramov, the Bulgarian representative in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, has
just concluded his promo tour in Istanbul and has now returned to Sofia for the final
rehearsals of Illusion before he flies off to Moscow in ten days time. "I was blown away by Turkish hospitality and warmth. People were so helpful, eager to guide and inform us about everything. Even TV hosts made a point of escorting us personally to our cars to see us off. It feels great to have such neighbours close to us!" Krassimir told esctoday.com on his way to the airport to return to Sofia. Krasimir, together with Petya Buyuklieva who will be together with him on stage in Moscow as a backing vocalist, arrived in Istanbul where a full promo schedule was laid out for them. Krassimir and Petya were guests on the 60 Dakika in Show TV, PATLICAN of Number 1 TV and also Number One Radio. Finally they were interviewed by MTV Turkey and Skyturk TV. Krasimir is now back in Sofia together with his entire team: "We are rehearsing daily," he tells us, "the hardest thing was to find a room high enough for the stilt dancers to rehearse. They are about 2,50- 2,70 metres tall on stilts." Today, the Bulgarian team recorded for the Mitko Stconev Sunday show. This will be the first time Illusion will be presented to the Bulgarian public after the country's final. On Tuesday, they will be closing the local Music Idol show (video) and on Friday they are guests on the Night Flight on BNT Satellite which will also be broadcast on Darik Radio. Finally on Sunday, they will be on the special Eurovision Vsichki Pred Ekrana TV Show at 09:30 |

Krassimir Avramov, the Bulgarian hope for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, is currently
in Athens where he will make a number of appearances on major local TV stations. "I can't believe I am finally in Athens", Avramov said, "I am a huge fan of Greek music and I grew up in a town close to the border listening to Greek radio daily. Since my Greek is not that good, I love to make up my own lyrics to the songs I love and sing them!" To prove that he went on to sing the special "Krassimir Avramov" version of Giorgos Mazonakis' Savvato, reports Sofia News Agency. During the first day of stay in Greece Bulgarian trio has met Eurovision fans and got interviewed by Polis Radio. On the second day appearances on Mega Channel Omorfos kosmos to proi show, and MAD TV show are scheduled. On Friday and Saturday Bulgarian team will give interviews for Star Channel, ERT and many more local press. |

As a first stop of his promo tour Krassimir Avramov chose FYR Macedonia. With a special
purpose. After the big contradictions and strong emotions in Bulgaria, following his
selection, FYR Macedonia is with no doubt the country that best knows the passion of
Balkans and the feeling of “strongly love it or hate it” On April 5th Krassimir visited one of the most popular shows “Iselenicki jbox”on the Macedonian National Television/МКRТV/. He gave a detailed interview and together with his star team, performed “Illusion” in live and sang especially for the macedonian audience one of his favorite songs from the Popera album “Bolero”. Special party was given later by the director of the production and the local businessman who were greatly impressed by the bulgarian team. They offered traditional Macedonian dishes and home-made wine. The party went on until late in the night with songs and dances. On the next day –April 6th, in the special edition „100% Eurosong” of MKRTV, Krassimir Avramov , Petja Boujuklieva and Ani Lozanova had a friendly meeting with the band “Next Time” - the Macedonian selection for Moskow 2009. Later Krassimir was guest in one of the well known shows of the Macedonian National Radio. Filled with positive emotions Bulgarian representatives for Eurovision 2009 made a tour on the streets and sights of the macedonian capital . For only a day it was obvious that they had become favourites of the Macedonian audience. Surrounded by many fans on the central street of Skopje, Krassi and his team, signed authographs for more than two hours and gave disks. |

любви или ненависти". 5го апреля Крассимир посетил популярное шоу "Iselenicki jbox" на македонском национальном телевидении MKRTV. Он дал интервью и вместе со своей командой исполнил песню "Illusion", а также специально для македонской публики еще один трек с альбома "Bolero". После этого прошла специальная вечеринка, которую организовали представители телекомпании и местные бизнесмены, которые были впечатлены исполнителями из Болгарии. Гостям были предложены македонские блюда и домашнее вино. Вечеринка продолжилась до глубокой ночи с песнями и танцами. На следуюзий день, 6го апреля, в специальном выпуске шоу "100% Eurosong" на MKRTV Крассимир, Петя и Ани встретились с представителями Македонии на Евровидении 2009. Позднее, Крассимир был гостем одной из программ национального радио. Переполненные эмоциями, представители Болгарии вышли на улицы столицы Македонии. Их тут же окружило множество поклонников. На центральной улице Скопье в течении двух часов проходила раздача автографов и промо-дисков. |

| 12/03 The new version of the song "Illusion" selected to represent Bulgaria at the "Eurovision 2009" contest finals in Moscow was presented at the National Place of Culture in Sofia, reports Sofia News Agency. Petya Buyuklieva, expected to be backing vocalist of Krassimir Avramov for Moscow said Thursday that the song had chances to "sound incredibly, and with God's help it would represent Bulgaria very well in Moscow." Head of Bulgarian Eurovision delegation Luben Kanchev stated: "The parts of the song, that Krasimir could perform well, but also could fail to perform, are backed by Buyklieva's voice. I think we are on the right path, but there is still a lot to be expected from the performance. Respected musical experts gathered today in Hall 2, and they voiced their opinion. I am grateful for the many objections. But they also confirmed the new version has future," Kanchev said. BNT will broadcast "Be A Star" special, devoted to a discussion of Bulgarian
representation at the Eurovision Song Contest. Krassimir Avramov will appear in the show
and will deliver live performance of "Illusion". Live boradcast will be
available at 20.55 on BNT 1 and at BNT website.
According to the statement of head of delegation of Bulgaria, final decision will be
reached by March 10th. Song writer and performer Krasimir Avramov, who became infamous, due to the scandal surrounding him and his song "Illusion" and the "Eurovision 2009" contest, told all his opponents that he would absolutely not withdraw from participating in the contest. "Nothing in my life has come easy, since I was a kid, I had to work hard and fight for everything," Avramov told the audience, gathered at BNT. The preliminary plan for the show included participation of all Bulgarian performers, who so far, had qualified for "Eurovision" finals. Only three of them, two from the same band, showed up. One, Marianna Popova, sent a written statement that her empty chair was a demonstration of her opinion of Avramov, while Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankulov-Stundzhi, Bulgaria's best ranking performers at "Eurovision," declined participation, citing work commitments and expressing hope that Avramov will have a great performance in Moscow. Avramov's harshest critics, such as popular composer Nayden Andreev and star performers Yordanka Hristova and Kiril Marechkov, also failed to appear to defend their position. Avramov, who vowed to go to Moscow, refused to perform again his song for the BNT audience, with the explanation that his back vocal has already left for the US. сайте БНТ. Окончательное решение об участии
Болгарии в конкурсе будет принято до 10го марта,
как сообщил глава делегации. Автор и исполнитель Крассимир Аврамов, ставший известным благодаря скандалу, окружающему его и его песню "Illusion" и участие в конкурсе Евровидение 2009, заявил своим оппонентам, что абсолютно не собирается снимать заявку с конкурса. "Ничто в моей жизни не давалось мне с легкостью, еще с детства мне приходилось много работать и бороться за все", сказал Аврамов зрителям БНТ. Предварительный план проведения шоу включал в себя участие в нем всех предыдущих представителей Болгарии на Евровидении. Однако, в программе появились только трое из них, включая двух представителей одной группы. Марианна Попова прислала письменное заявление, что ее пустое место - это демонстрация ее мнения об Аврамове, а Элица Тодорова и Стоян Янкулов-Стунджи, самые успешные представители Болгарии на конкурсе, отказались от участия, заявив, что у них множество другой работы и выразили надежду, что Аврамов сможет хорошо выступить в Москве. Главные оппоненты Аврамова, популярный композитор Найден Андреев и исполнители Йорданка Христова и Кирил Маречков, также не появились на шоу. Bulgarian singer Petya Buyuklieva, laureate of many international competitions, has been
added to the Bulgarian team for Eurovision 2009 to handle "part of vocals" in
performance of "Illusion". Speaking to "Standart" yesterday she has noted: "I know Krassimir Avramov for many years and we were together performing in America and had represented Bulgaria in the Arts Olympiad in 1998. I have impressions of him as a wonderful colleague who has abilities to represent Bulgaria. As for the final concert - I did not see a live performance on television, but I'm sure there have been some technical problems as well. The song itself is very nice and has a wonderful video, it has excellent potential to do well. I will be also offering Krassi some lessons on a vocal technique. I'm sure he will be fully mobilized for Moscow performance. As in semifinal of national preselection jury has also voted for the song, I do not see any issue in the current scandal". Special talk show, devoted to participation of Bulgaria in Eurovision 2009 has been aired today by BNT in morning block. Guests of the show were professional composer Nayden Andreev, singer Ivelina Balcheva singer and chief editor of Music and entertainment broadcast of BNT Luben Kanchev. Mr. Andreev has voiced his oppinion against participation of Krassimir Avramov in the contest, saying "It can be everything, but this is not singing. It is howling. With such a performance people can not understand the song. Such a performance is totally unsuitable to represent Bulgaria at the international level. I offer Krassimir to withdraw himself, otherwise this scandal can put an end to his career". Ivelina Balcheva stressed that "Illusion" is a project that has involved many professional people - singers Albena Veskova, soloist of "Bulgare", Ani Lozanova - who has a lot of rock and pop fans, Emil Boyadjiev - author of the arrangements, all sound recording and technical crew. The project is now joined by Petya Buyuklieva. The song has all qualities that are required of a good entry, which may be presented to Eurovision 2009". She added that she is considering Krassimir vocal performance at the preselection as a provocation to the audience. Head of Eurovision delegation of Bulgaria Luben Kanchev has noted, that even with addition of Petya Buyuklieva media will not stop criticizing and demanding for the song to withdraw from competition. He added that if this combination still doesn't work well on stage, Bulgaria may still withdraw from Eurovision 2009 paying the full participation fee in amount of 90 000 Swiss Francs. To avoid such scandals in future, it is very likely that next year channel will run an internal preselection. |

У меня сложилось о нем впечатление, как о очень хорошем коллеге, который вполне способен представлять Болгарию на международном уровне. Что же касается финала национального отбора - я не видела концерта по ТВ, но я уверена, что проблема в том числе была создана и техническими проблемами. Сама песня очень сильная, на нее снято отличное видео и у нее большой потенциал для успешного выступления. Я предложу Красси поработать над вокальной техникой, дам ему несколько уроков. Я уверена, что для выступления в Москве он будет полностью мобилизован. Ведь в полуфинале национального отбора профессиональное жюри тоже проголосовало за него, поэтому я не вижу основания для настоящего конфликта".  Специальное

эфире БНТ. Гостями шоу стали профессиональный
композитор Найден Андреев, певица Ивелина
Балчева и руководитель отдела музыкального и
развлекательного вещания БНТ Любен Канчева.Андреев высказал свое мнение против участия Крассимира Аврамова в конкурсе заметив: "Это можно назвать чем угодно, но не пением. Скорее это просто вой. Это вокальное недоразумение. С таким исполнением люди не могут понять песню. Я считаю, что такое выступление никак не может представить Болгарию на международном уровне. Я предлагаю Крассимиру самому снять свою кандидатуру, иначе этот скандал вообще может положить конец его карьере". Ивелина Балчева подчеркнула, что "в проект "Illusion" вовлечены и другие профессиональные люди - певицы Альбена Вескова, солистка "Булгаре", Ани Лозанова - у которой множество фанатов как в рок, так и в поп стиле, Эмиль Бояджиев - автор аранжировки, вся техническая команда, работавшая над записью песни. Теперь к проекту присоединится и Петя Буюклиева. У песни есть все качества, которые требуются для успешного выступления на Евровидении". Певица добавила, что считает вокальное исполнение Крассимира на отборе как его намеренную провокацию. Глава делегации Болгарии на Евровидении Любен Канчев отметил, что даже при участии Пети Буюклиевой, СМИ не перестанут критиковать и требовать снятия песни с конкурса. Он добавил, что если и данный вариант не сработает, Болгария все еще может снять свою заявку с конкурса с выплатой полного членского взноса - 90 000 швейцарских франков. Для того, чтобы предотвратить подобные скандалы в будущем, телеканал планирует отказаться от телеголосования и выбирать исполнителей внутренним отбором. |

entrant for Eurovision 2009 continues. As ESCKaz has earlier reported, several prominent
Bulgarian musicians have issued the protest against Krassimir Avramov being chosen as
Bulgarian entrant for Eurovision 2009, despite he won the official vote with impressive
55.52%. A special petition and Facebook group titled "Krasimir Avramov's Song for
Eurovision Is a Disgrace to Bulgaria" have been established. Speaking today at Darik Radio, Head of Eurovision delegation of Bulgaria, Mr. Luben Kanchev, director of music and entertainment broadcast of BNT admitted that they have own doubts about the way the song has been performed at the Saturday concert. He said that three possible solutions exist now: Avramov to make the decision to withdraw, BNT to try to help the singer improve his performance and Bulgaria to withdraw from participation in the 2009 contest edition, reports Novinite. In case Avramov decides to withdraw his bid, the first runner-up, Poly Genova and her song "One Lifetime Is Not Enough" are going to represent Bulgaria in Moscow. Kanchev further said that if Bulgaria was to decline this year's participation, this could cause future problems for the country, adding that BNT is going to make a decision by the end of February. BNT Head of Delegation stated that the song was a very strong one, with good chances to win, but Avramov needed to show he could deliver a better performance, adding that as an organizer BNT did not have the right to disqualify Avramov or to repeat the vote. In the mean time, the Deputy Director of BNT, Dimitar Tsonev, met with the demonstrators, who demanded a new vote, gathering today near BNT building. Earlier Tuesday, Avramov himself vowed to participate in the "Eurovision 2009" finals in Moscow and to represent Bulgaria, explaining the scandal with jealousy. "Many people, especially among colleagues, have a hard time accepting somebody else's success," Avramov told the local reporter of Darik radio in the city of Sliven. This year is hardly any different for Eurovision selections in Bulgaria. There were claims about vote rigging surrounding any Eurovision entrant from Bulgaria, starting with 2005 entrants band Kaffe backed by Russian producer Melik-Pashaev. |

Выступая сегодня на радио Darik, глава делегации Болгарии на Евровидении, Любен Канчев, директор департамента развлекательного и музыкального вещания телеканала BNT признал, что и организаторов отбора посещают определенные сомнения о том, что исполнение песни на финале национального отбора не соответствовало необходимому высокому уровню. Он также сообщил о том, что существует три возможных варианта разрешения сложившейся ситуации: Аврамов сам снимает свою заявку, BNT помогает ему улучшить его выступление, или Болгария вообще отказывается от участия на Евровидении 2009. В случае, если Аврамов
согласится снять свою кандидатуру, второй призер
конкурса, Поли Генова, должна будет выступить в
Москве с песней "One Lifetime Is Not Enough". В случае же
снятия Болгарии с конкурса вообще, могут
последовать дополнительные санкции. Как отметил
Канчев, они планируют принять окончательное

entry for ESC 2009 will be selected via the "Be a
Star" show. Entries are accepted by 19th of September. 9 of them will be selected
by TV viewers for semifinal, through series of quaterfinals. 9 more will be added by jury,
selected both from unqualified entries from quaterfinals and additional submission of
entries received from October 1st to December 19th. 9 best songs of semifinal (according
to different jury decision) will qualify to the final, where they will be joined by 3 more
entries specially comissioned by the broadcaster. Winner will be selected by televoting. Update: 54 entries were submitted, list here, some of them were disqualified. Series of concerts will start on 2nd of October. As last year each month there will be 3 preliminary shows of 5 songs each, 3 will qualify to quaterfinal (2 selected by televiewers and 1 by jury) and quaterfinal of 9 songs - 3 qualify further. Quaterfinals will take place on 23/10, 20/11 and 18/12. Semifinal of "BG Song For Eurovision" will take place on January 24th, final is scheduled for 21st of February. |
Болгарская
песня для Евровидения 2009 будет выбрана
посредством конкурса "Будь
звездой". Заявки принимаются до 19го
сентября. 9 из них посредством нескольких
четвертьфиналов будут зрителями выбраны для
участия в полуфинале. Еще 9 песен к ним добавит
жюри, как из непобедивших в четвертьфинале, так и
из новых заявок, поступивших в период с 1го
октября по 19 декабря. 9 лучших песен полуфинала,
согласно решению нового состава жюри, выйдут в
финал. Там к ним присоединятся еще 3 песни,
специально приглашенные телекомпанией.
Победитель будет выбран телеголосованием. Обновление: Подано 54 заявки, список здесь, ряд из них был дисквалифицирован. Серии концертов начнутся 2го октября. Каждый месяц состоится по 3 концерта из 5 исполнителей, в четвертьфинал выйдут 3 из них (два от телезрителей и один от жюри) и четвертьфинал из 9 песен, в полуфинал также выйдут 3 песни. Четвертьфиналы пройдут 23/10, 20/11 and 18/12. Полуфинал "BG Song For Eurovision" состоится 24го января, финал пройдет - 21 февраля. |
