ESC 2016

Belgium First Rehearsal

Laura has certainly done her home work. She's delivering a huge routine.
Vocally I'm not entirely impressed yet, I am hoping the backings are a bit stronger in the chorus.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the overall orange and yellow look, but considering this is a song with a lot of disco elements, I can see why this was chosen.

Laura does bring a big choreography along, and you can see she's worked hard on it.

Funny little detail, I just got a cup of coffee and while pouring it, several journalists were also grabbing coffee whistling What's The Pressure. A Good omen?

Let's hope so!

Albania First Rehearsal

Eneda Tarifa from Albania is the penultimate artist to rehearse today.

Vocally Eneda is really standing out, she's getting more and more confident with each run. The backdrop and LED flooring is also looking very regal, with the blue and gold colours.

The song has grown on me an awful lot and as it's being played right after Georgia, it becomes a nice, relaxing moment before Belgium. Could work in its favour, and make it to the final.

Georgia First Rehearsal

I have a real soft spot for Georgia, even though It isn't considered as a favourite, much to my surprise.

The camera work of the first verse is a little bit strange, as part of the screen is being mirrored which leads to some very weird body compositions of the band. It reminds me a bit of the camera work France used back in 2008 with Sebastien Tellier. The second time round, the special mirror effect is dropped and it looks so much better.

So not a big fan of that bit, but what follows next is quirky, alternative bright, colourful and full of lights. Just what you need with an alternative song like this.

Many fans have this down at the bottom of their list, but in my opinion, Georgia has everything in power to qualify with much ease.

I like it very much!

Norway First Rehearsal

Agnete from Norway is a very confident singer on stage. Her vocals are spot on.

There isn't much change from the national final in fact. The big box however which had the dancer in, has been ditched from the act. There is just two platforms on the stage, one for Agnete and one for her dancer.

The outfit has also stayed the same, and the backdrop remains within the Frozen theme too.

Very competent, through its three runs. I guess the outcame is hard to predict, will depend on whether the public will get the tempo change in the song.

Meet and Greet with ManuElla from Slovenia

Liza on Thu, 05/05/2016 - 12:55

Slovenia has a Danish acrobat on stage. It was supposed to be two Slovnians, but for some reason, they couldn't make it. So Jannik from Denmark had basicly less than 3 weeks to rehearse. In Copenhagen everything was perfected, but as the pole in Globen Arena is attached much higher in the roof, he had big troubles with his act.

Ukraine First Rehearsal

Very impressive first rehearsal for Jamala.

Vocally and visually absolutely stunning. From the optic illusion of Jamal standing in toxic gasses, to the colours on the LED floor, which towards the hymn part are being pushed up by Jamala onto the LED backdrop.

Vocally also incredible.

Met with so much applause in the press centre. Will do very well.
