Bio

Leonora Colmor Jepsen (performing as Leonora) was born on 10 March 1998. Leonora is only 20 years old, but has already won a lot of prizes - is the ice skating.

Leonora, who was born and raised in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen, where she still lives today, is accustomed to being in the spotlight and having to perform her very best when it really applies. Since she was seven, she has been doing skating, and this has resulted in three titles such as Two-Times Junior Denmark Champion, Three-Times Flyver Cup winner and participation in both the Nordic Championships and the World Championships for Juniors. In 2016, she also won Danish Championship Gold in ice dance with her little brother Linus. She has achieved her personal best total score of 108.62 at Coupe du Printemps 2015 in Luxembourg.

Today, Leonora no longer skates at the elite level, but instead she works as an ice skating coach and choreographer. And then she has full focus on her other great passion - the music. For years she has been writing her own songs, which she has performed with at cafés, libraries and at intimate concerts in Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium, from which she has graduated from last summer. Throughout her high school, she has gained more and more faith in her own abilities as a singer and songwriter. She has been a member of the school choir, has participated in the school's musical several times. Now she is recording a number of her songs, which she hopes will end up in an album.

"Love is something universal that is in all people and between all people - and will always be there. That's what the song is about. Even though ugly things are going on around the world, love will always be there to create hope, optimism and tie people together", says Leonora. "I see it as something very positive that others also liked the song. It has been a kind of tailwind. It gets totally wild. It's far from anything I've ever tried before. I do not quite know what awaits me, but it gets big", says the young singer who looks forward to representing Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest.

'Love Is Forever' is not just a victory for Leonora, but also for the songwriting trio behind the song; Lise Cabble, Emil Lei and Melanie Wehbe. While the latter two are debuting songwriters in the Grand Prix context, it is the fourth time that Lise Cabble is behind the Dansk Grand Prix winner and all her three previous attempts brough Denmark Top 5 finish. Most recently, in 2013, she was one of the songwriters behind the Eurovision winner 'Only Teardrops'. Cabble calls the song "classic and timeless": "It is also contemporary in terms of being sparse and minimalist, where there is room for the vocals. Leonora has a fragility and an expression in her voice that fits very well with the song". Backing vocals for studio version of the song were performed by Melanie Wehbe, Guitar: Lise Cabble, Emil Rosendahl Lei; Trumpet: Tim Ewé; Violin: Gréta Salóme; Producer: Emil Rosendal Lei.

It will be for the first time in more than 20 years when Danish language will sound at the Eurovision, since Kølig Kaj sang "Stemmen i mit liv" in 1997 in Dublin. "I immediately believe we want to keep it as it is, because it is very Eurovision-like to include a lot of languages. So, I think, is obvious", says one of the song's songwriters, Lise Cabble, the day after the victory. "But there is nothing written in stone. Now we have to look at it all and see if there is something that can be done better. It may be that we need a lot more languages", says Lise Cabble and laughs. She explains that French part of 'Love is Forever' came naturally to them when they wrote the song. "We just tried to Google Translate, and the French text just worked for us right away. French also sounds incredibly beautiful, and people associate language with love so it fits perfectly". The song also uses German language.

Johannes Nymark and Kristian Gintberg will host Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019. Nymark will be in charge of the hosting for the third time and Gintberg will debut at the role.

DMGP will take place on 23 February in Boxen in Herning, broadcast at 20:00 live on DR1.

"It'll be mega cool! The two previous years have really been fun to be able to guide the viewers and people in the hall through the show", says Johannes Nymark, who won DMGP 2016 with band Lighthouse X.

"It has been a fun development in my life first participating in DMGP and since then being the host - so far for the third time. The more you try it, the easier it goes. This means that I can relax even more in the role this year".

"It is not so much about whether you work with a man or a woman, but about the energy that arises in the relationship on the stage. Annette and I fit nicely well together, and I think Kristian and I come to that as well. We already have a crazy fun together".

Kristian Gintberg is also looking forward to hosting the big music competition. "I'm really crazy, because all the people who come in and see the show are fans. When you see it on television, you can really feel that it is a hall that comes to boil", says Kristian Gintberg.

He has previously hosted Ramasjang Mysteriet, Lille Nørd and the Junior MGP. "It is the largest program DR has, and at the same time it is a tradition. It feels like a feast when there is the Grand Prix. It's a bit like the European Football Championship - just for music. I am very proud to be the host".

"I have also been allowed to sniff some of the songs, and I can only say that they are insanely good"

"I have never actually been to the Boxen, but I remember how impressed I was when I hosted MGP in Gigantium in Aalborg some years ago. And this is even bigger"

Gintberg is glad that he will be on stage with Johannes Nymark. "When you are put together as hosts, you have a short time to get to know each other, but we already have a good time together. We have fun naturally and like each other, and it really is really cool. I have the feeling that we have known each other longer than we actually have"

29/10: OGAE Denmark to be involved in songs preselection

Preselection

On 22 August Danish broadcaster DR has invited to submit entries for the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019. In fact, songs can be submitted all year-round, but if one wants to be sure that the entry is taken into consideration for the 2019 edition, deadline was set for Wednesday 26 September.

Complete participation rules are available here, and the submission form is here.

All entries must be professional studio recorded demos and should follow basic Eurovision rules. In case, entry has been previously published online or publicly performed in some form, DR must be informed and will decide if the composition can join the competition. If DR estimates that the entry does not comply with EBUs conditions and rules for the ESC 2019 or has gained an advantage in the competition compared to the other entries DR has the right to disqualify the entry.

Either the composer, song writer – or the performing artist must be Danish citizen or must have corresponding, strong relations to Denmark. DR will listen to all songs, and the selection committee does not initially know the names of composers or song writers. The selection committee will be appointed by DR, and its membership will not be disclosed to the public.

At the Danish National Song Contest 2019 the songs must be performed as singback – i.e. without live bands, but with taped instrumental music and chorus without any vocals of the artists performing at the show. At ESC 2019 all vocals including chorus must be 100 % live. DR will choose the artist(s) to perform the songs in consultation with the copyright owners. In case of disagreement, DR's choice(s) will take precedence. All artists must be at least 16 years old on the broadcasting date. DR has the final say in the production of the TV show and the performance of the songs. This applies to the fields of orchestration, stage props, cameras, lights, choreography, graphics, monitor, PA and TV sound, costumes, styling, etc. Marketing and press work will be coordinated by DR's press division.

Selected artist(s) etc., in the Danish final are not obvious candidates to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. DR will decide in consultation with the copyright owners which artist(s) etc., are to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. When participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, the Danish entry must accept EBU's then-current rules and regulations.

Result in the top 10 in the Eurovision 2018 has given DR blood to the fore in the international pop competition, and entertainment manager Jan Lagermand Lundme has high hopes for the songs that will be submitted to the next year's Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. "We are in a rapid development so the ambition for 2019 is, of course, to find the song that can represent Denmark in the best possible way in Israel next year. We are looking for high quality songs. When we come to Eurovision, there are about 40 songs in total, so if we have a chance to do well, we have to come up with something of high quality and something that stands out so that viewers can remember us".

Prior to last year's DMGP, DR has hired a so-called 'entries producer' to ensure that the ten entries in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix each appeared unique and that there was a connection between song, stage show and the singer. Entries producer Mads Enggaard continues his work this year, where he initially helps to select the ten songs and devise their presentation and subsequently helps to ensure that the Danish winner will be presented as well as possible on stage when he or she is to represent Denmark at Eurovision. Just as Rasmussen's Higher Ground succeeded earlier, explains entertainment manager Jan Lagermand Lundme. "We've sent a single-track song, where the song, performance and artist went up to a higher level. Everything just played. As Danes, we can be mega-solid over what we got sent this year, and our ambition is to succeed in 2019", he says.

On 23 October it was confirmed that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix returns to the city of Herning for he fifth time. It was also the city, where Denmark found its latest Eurovision winner in 2013. The 49th edition of the contest will take place on 23 February. "It's a big national event every year. And the atmosphere, especially in the Boxen in Herning, is absolutely amazing when we are there. You really feel how people want this. So I am sure that those in the hall and in front of the screens at home will have a good and unique experience", says Jan Lagermand Lundme. "We are in full swing listening to all the submitted music now, and I think it's doing very well. There have really been good songs so I hope and believe that this year will be successful", he says.

Approximately 800 entries have been received. As in recent years, a focus group including 20 OGAE Denmark members, casual ESC viewers and music industry professionals was gathered on 6 November to assess the 30 songs that were being considered for the DMGP 2019 line-up. Ultimately, the final 10 is chosen by the show producers, but they make their decisions partially based on the feedback they receive from the focus group. Tickets for the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019 will be available for sale from Friday, 26 October at 12 pm at DR Billet.

The 10 finalists of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019 were revealed at a press-conference at DR Concert Hall in Copenhagen on Thursday 31 January at 13:00 CET. The event was hosted by DMGP hosts Kristian Gintberg and Johannes Nymark. The ten participating entries were also presented during the press conference and made available on all digital platforms on the following day. One can listen to them here.

The ten selected songs are performed by a wide-ranging field featuring several established artists and a whole bunch of brand new names. Among the most well-known faces is Julie Berthelsen, who presents together with the renowned Greenlandic singer Nina Kreutzmann Jørgensen song 'League of Light', that will bring the Greenlandic language into the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix for the first time since 1979. There are number of French lines and one German in the song "Love Is Forever" by Leonora, while a few Spanish words are provided by Jasmin Gabay (who was backing vocalist of Anja Nissen in 2017) in "Kiss Like This". Entry of Humørekspressen - 'Dronning af baren' (Queen of the bar) brings Danish language to the show.

Jasmin is also known for her participation in "Den store bagedyst", where she has qualified to the finals, and Sigmund has reached semifinals of Danish X Factor. Teit Samsø and Rasmus Faartoft have performed in successful 'Seebach' musical. Humørekspressen are made of Frandsen (aka rapper and producer Pharfar), Krølstrup (aka Klumben), Strejferen (aka DR kids shows host Chapper) and Peber (aka Peter Lützen, guitarist of band Panamah). Simone Emilie toured the world as a soprano soloist in Sankt Annæ Girls Choir. Leeloo has also toured large parts of both the United States and Europe and wrote songs for Sanne Salomonsen. Leonora, at 20, is the youngest act this year.

While the songwriting list features number of experienced Grand Prix songwriters, no less than 22 songwriters will compete in it for the first time. Among them are Tim Schou of A Friend in London and Martin Skriver from Lighthouse X. Another debutant is Canadian Laurell Barker, which was behind Swiss entry last year and had entries in UK, Swedish and German selections. Scottish-Swedish songwriter John Ballard is regular collaborator of Dream Team of Philipp Kirkorov. Most experience in the songwriting team this year has Lise Cabble, who has a finger in three of this year's entries.

In the final the field of songs will first be cut from ten to three, which will fight for the victory in the Superfinal. The expert jury will consist of 10 people, one of whom is a fan who won their seat on the jury in a quiz show "Formiddag på 4’eren" on DR P4. 1.324 million viewers (69.000 down from the last year) have watched the show making it second most watched program in Denmark of the week, but the least viewed DMGP since 2008.

Nils Vest and Britta Lillesøe DR has confirmed Eurovision participation in Israel, despite vocal calls to boycott the edition of the show by high profile Danish cultural personalities, including actors Jesper Christensen, Anne Marie Helger and Tove Bornhöft, film director Nils Vest and actress Britta Lillesøe of Freetown Christiania, musicians Raske Penge, Nassim Al Dogom, Arne Würgler, Karina Willumsen, band Patchanka, choir Oktoberkoret, novelist Kirsten Thorup, visual artist Tina Enghoff. "Denmark will take part, because Eurovision is all about anything but creating discretion. Eurovision is about uniting Europe, and therefore we are in. It does not matter in which country it will take place. For the values that lie in the competition, we are just meeting something that is not political - for the music", says Jan Lagermand Lundme.

On October 10 DR has announced serious cuts among its employees as part of the savings plan. 204 employees of the broadcaster were laid off, among them Jacob Riising – who has co-hosted Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 2014-2016 – and Ole Tøpholm – who has been the Danish Eurovision Commentator since 2011, who has been offered another position at DR in Næstved.

Несколько строк на французском и одну на немецком можно услышать в песне "Love Is Forever", а несколько слов на испанском прозвучат в треке Jasmin Gabay (бэк-вокалистки Ани Ниссен на Евровидении 2017) "Kiss Like This".

Nils Vest and Britta Lillesøe DR
