Bio
Samra Rahimli is an up-and-coming singer from Baku, Azerbaijan. She spent parts of her childhood in both Azerbaijan and Russia, before eventually settling in Baku for good. While studying in the tenth grade Samra had participated in the national preselection for the Eurovision 2012. In the first qualifying week, she sang songs I'm Your Baby Tonight, Vorona, Məhəbbət Yalandır and Show Me Your Love of Tina Karol and finished on third place, losing to Orhan Kerimli. After impressing audiences as the youngest contestant in the competition, Samra enrolled at Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts to study music formally and pursue a singing career.
Singer had her first breakthrough with the the participation in Turkish vocal project "O ses Türkiye / The Voice of Turkey". During the auditions aired on 2 December 2014, Rahimli performed the song "Simply The Best", and two mentors of the project Mazhar Alanson & Özkan Uğur and former Eurovision participant Hadise have turned their chairs to the young singer, who eventually joined the team of Hadise. At the following shows Samra performed "I Who Have Nothing" and "Sweet Dreems", and after losing a duel with the latter song she had moved to the team of Gökhan Özoğuz. On 2 February 2015, performing "Everyway That I Can" and again losing to her opponent, she was relegated from the project. Some of her performances in the show can be seen on Youtube. 
In 2015, the singer has released her debut solo single "O sevir", written in collaboration with music producer MC Murad. On 4 December 2015, performing on the stage song of Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball", Samra has entered the auditions for the show "Səs Azərbaycan / The Voice of Azerbaijan". All four mentors of the project have turned their chairs and enthusiastically praised the performer, while Samra has chosen to join team of Manana Japaridze. In the show she performed songs Sən Necədə Gözəlsən, Show Must Go On, Perfect, When Love Takes Over, Sarı Gəlin (with Manana). On 5 March 2016 in the final of the competition Samra performed compositions Say Something, Sweet Dreams and Sev and eventually finished fourth. Watch her performances from the show here.
Samra says she really hates cutting her hair thus it's that long, and that she simply adores her dog Arti. Samra's singing influences include Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Diana Ross and Beyoncé. This is fitting, since her dream is to land a lead role in her favorite musical - Dreamgirls. Now Samra is concentrating all her efforts on the biggest challenge of her life: the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. Her entry song is called Miracle, which, despite the fairytale-like title, is a dramatic break-up story. "I've only been through the similar experience once" Samra says, "It's never easy to let someone go but you have to stay strong and keep moving".
On 10 March 2016 Ictimai TV has confirmed Samra Rahimli as the representative of Azerbaijan with Miracle. ITV has selected the song internally among over 400 submitted entries from international and local composers and songwriters. The final choice of the artist and the song was based on closed ballot decision by ITV and the opinion survey of more than 100 music and television industry experts and some Eurovision fans from over 35 European countries. Samra's Eurovision entry was officially presented on 13 March. 
Azerbaijani delegation along with many other participating countries has a long and relatively successful cooperation experience with various songwriters from the host country of Eurovision 2016 - Sweden. This year is not an exception for Azerbaijan. The creative team behind Miracle includes Amir Aly, Jakke "T.I Jakke" Erixson and Henrik Wikström. The controversy of the fairytale-like title and the sad narrative adds up with the irresistibly catchy chorus and strong groove of the song. The 21-year-old singer explains that her entry is very much about the feelings that she has personally encountered for the first time in her life. "Though this song is a story of a painful break-up, it's not a ballad as one may think," - tells Samra. – "For me it's the anthem of a strong and brave girl. I hope it can inspire those who lost their love to take the right decision and move on. May this become a real Miracle for me!"
All three songwriters of Miracle are veterans of Swedish preselection Melodifestivalen, having produced a numerous Swedish hits. Henrik Wikström wrote the song "Invincible" with which Carola has represented Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Also he composed "Survivor" Helena Paparizou, "Cara Mia" Mans Måns Zelmerlöw, "Lay your love on me" of BWO, "Min kärlek" of Shirley Clamp and many other entries that have achieved great successes in the Swedish selections. This year his song "Constellation Price" took 5th place in the Melodifestivalen. Amir Aly is a colleague of Henrik in Lionheart Music Group and co-author of many of his songs. Over the years, in the Swedish preselection his songs were performed by artists like Jill Johnson, Rongedal, Maria Haukaas Storeng & Anna Sahlene and many others. Jakke Erixson, a former member of The Pusher, although does not have such big experience of participation in the Melodifestivalen (his entries performed Dr. Alban, Dinah Nah, Alvaro Estrello and Panetoz), but he is signed to RedOne Productions label and has already worked with such foreign artists as Christina Aguilera, Sunrise Avenue, Tone Damli and many others. Tomas N'evergreen is known to the entire Eurovision fan community from his participation in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest representing his home country, Denmark and has several top ten successes in Eastern Europe with his songs Since You've Been Gone and Everytime (I See Your Smile). Regarding collaboration Tomas says: "This year I've got a chance of making a remix of Miracle. It's a nice entry song performed by young and beautiful Azerbaijani singer Samra. I wish her best of luck at Eurovision in Stockholm".
Samra, Azerbaijan's representative at Eurovision, has filmed the final Eurovision postcard out of all 43 participating countries. The shooting took place in Samra's hometown of Baku.
As planned by SVT, the filming took place in different locations including the Heydar Aliyev Center. The appearance of the stunning building in the postcard, which is a source of inspiration and pride for the people of Baku, became a makeshift homage to its creator, Zaha Hadid, who passed away a week before the shooting. The other locations for the postcard included Old City's antique shops and famous Baku Boulevard, where the 21-year-old singer went for a light jog along to wind down the shoot.
As an artist and as a woman, Samra has found inspiration from Hadid’s immense talent and brilliant designs. "I learned about Zaha's death last week. It's very sad. She was the most powerful and inspirational female architect in the world. I loved her. I absolutely adore the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center in my native Baku. I used to go there during sunsets when I could. I’m proud that we can honour her legacy in our Eurovision postcard", she said.

Samra has called on her fans and fans of Eurovision to send postcards with their favourite lines from Miracle. Her favourite postcards will feature in the video. The fans whose postcards are chosen will receive a CD signed by the 21-year-old singer.
"I am excited to have my fans help with the lyric video. They give me strength, and I am so happy to include them in the Eurovision process. Let’s make a "Miracle" together" says Samra. Any fans wishing to take part in the lyric video are asked to write their favourite lyric from Miracle on a postcard and send it to Samra by April 10th

A photo in the instagram of Bjurman Sandra (songwriter of Running Scared, Drip Drop, When the music dies, Tick Tock) together with finalist of Səs Azərbaycan / The Voice of Azerbaijan Samra Rahimli sparkled the rumours that she will represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
Was Sandra working only with Samra or several The Voice finalists for the potential entries we will find out on 14 March, as this is the day when internally chosen entry from Azerbaijan should be premiered.
Preselection
Azerbaijani public broadcaster İctimai TV has announced on 29 January a start of the internal preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Artists being Azerbaijani citized (also living abroad) as well as Azerbaijani-born were eligible to compete in the preselection. They should have submited the following data as part of their application: name, surname, date of birth, city of residence, performance audio and video recordings, Youtube links and five photos. Entries were also accepted from the songwriters and no nationality restrictions were implied in their case. Songwriters needed to submit potential entries alongside the lyrics and short biography. The deadline to apply to the preselection for both songwriters and performers was 10 February. Information should have been sent to: eurovision2016@itv.az.
The entry of Azerbaijan was originally supposed to be announced on the last possible date for the national preselections, 14 March, but due to the partial leaks of the information, name of the chosen performer was officially confirmed on 10 March.

Самра Рагимли - молодая певица из города Баку, Азербайджан. Она провела свое детство в различных частях Азербайджана и России, пока ее семья окончательно не поселилась в Баку. Учась в десятом классе Самра принимала участие в национальном отборе конкурса "Евровидение 2012". На первой отборочной неделе она исполнила песни I'm Your Baby Tonight, Ворона, Məhəbbət Yalandır и Show Me Your Love Тины Кароль и заняла третье место, проиграв Орхану Керимли. Впечатлив зрителей, самая юная конкурсантка шоу, поступила в дальнейшем в Азербайджанский Государственный Университет Культуры и Искусств, для обучения музыке на профессиональном уровне и начале музыкальной карьеры.
Известность к певице пришла с участием в турецком вокальном проекте "O ses Türkiye / Голос Турции". 10го марта 2016 года телеканал Ictimai утвердил Самру Рагимли с песней "Miracle" представительницей Азербайджана на конкурсе Евровидение. Песня была выбрана внутренним отбором из почти 400 заявленных композиций местных и зарубежных авторов. Окончательный выбор исполнитеья и песни был сделан на основе мнения профессионального жюри, представителей телеканала Ictimai и результатов опроса, проведенного среди сотни экспертов в области музыки и телевидения, включавших также нескольких фанатов Евровидения, из 35 стран Европы. Официальная презентация песни прошла 13го марта.
Делегация Азербайджана, как и многих других участвующих стран, имеет длительное и относительно успешное сотрудничество с различными авторами из страны организатора Евровидения этого года - Швеции. Этот год не стал для Азербайджана исключением. Команда создателей Miracle включает в себя Амира Али, Джейка "T.I Jakke" Эриксона и Хенрика Викстрёма. Противоречие между сказочным названием и грустным повествованием песни дополнено неудержимо запоминающимся припевом и сильным грувом композиции. 21-летняя певица объясняет, что ее песня рассказывает о чувствах, с которыми она лично столкнулась в первый раз в своей жизни. "Хотя в основе этой песни история болезненного расставания, это не баллада, как можно было бы подумать," - говорит Самра - "Для меня это гимн сильной и храброй девушки, я надеюсь, он сможет вдохновить тех, кто потерял свою любовь на принятие правильного решения и движение дальше. Самра продолжает свой промо-тур в Сербии.
В то время как представительница Азербайджана на конкурсе Евровидение 2016 Самра продолжает свой промо-тур, поклонники со всей Европы сегодня получили два специальных сюрприза. Самра и ее команда выпустили два ремикса на песню Miracle. Один из них создал Tomas N'evergreen, а второй - азербайджанский DJ и музыкальный продюсер Kamil. Томас Н'евергрин известен всем поклонникам Евровидения благодаря своему участию в конкурсе Евровидение 2010, где он представлял свою родную страну Данию, а также своим чартовым успехам в Восточной Европе с песнями Since You've Been Gone и Everytime (I See Your Smile). О данном сотрудничестве Томас говорит: "В этом году мне выпал шанс подготовить ремикс на песню Miracle. Это - приятна песня, которую исполняет молодая и красивая азербайджанская певица Самра. Представительница Азербайджана на Евровидении 2016 Самра завершила съемки открыток участников конкурса этого года. Съемки прошли в родном городе Самры - Баку.
По задумке шведского вещателя SVT, съемки ролика проходили в разных местах города, в том числе в Центре Гейдара Алиева. Появление этого потрясающего здания в открытке, которое является источником вдохновения и гордости для жителей Баку, стало импровизированной данью уважения ее создателю, Захе Хадид, которая скончалась за неделю до съемок. Другие места для открытки включали в себя антикварные магазины Старого города, а также известный Бакинский бульвар.
Как певица и как женщина, Самра черпает вдохновение из огромного таланта Хадид и ее блестящих дизайнов. "Я узнал о смерти Захи на прошлой неделе. Это очень печально. Она была самой мощной и вдохновляющей женщиной-архитектором в мире. Я ее любила. Я абсолютно обожаю культурный центр имени Гейдара Алиева в своем родном Баку. Я имела обыкновение гулять там во время закатов. Я горжусь тем, что мы можем почтить ее наследие в нашей открытке для конкурса", говорит она.

Представительница Азербайджана Самра призвала своих поклонников присылать ей открытки с любимыми строчками песни Miracle. Лучшие открытки войдут в промо-видео на ее песню, а авторы открыток получат в подарок промо-диски, подписанные 21-летней певицей. "Я невероятно рада тому, что мои поклонники помогут мне с созданием lyric video. Они придают мне силу, и я счастлива тому, что могу привлечь их к процессу Евровидения. Давайте создадим это "Чудо" вместе", говорит Самра.
Для того, чтобы принять участие в подготовке lyric video, нужно просто написать любимую строчку из песни Miracle на открытке и отправить ее Самре до 10го апреля.

Фотография впоследствии была удалена. Работала ли Сандра только с Сямрой или с несколькими финалистами шоу Голос, мы узнаем официально 14го марта, когда должна быть представлена выбранная внутренним отбором песня Азербайджана.
Национальный отбор
29го января азербайджанский вещатель İctimai TV приступил к приему заявок на участие в закрытом национальном отборе на конкурс Евровидение 2016. К участию в отборе допускались жители Азербайджана, уроженцы Азербайджана или граждане Азербайджана, проживающие зарубежом. Желающие должны были отправить следующую информацию о себе: имя, фамилия, дата рождения, город, а также приложить ссылки на аудио и видео записи и пять фотографий. Заинтересованные авторы также могли присылать потенциальные конкурсные песни, с приложением текста песни и короткой биографии. Ограничений по гражданству авторов не накладывалось. Крайний срок приема заявок - 10 февраля. Заявки должны были быть направлены по e-mail: eurovision2016@itv.az
Планировалось, что представитель Азербайджана на конкурсе будет объявлен в последний допустимый день для национальных отборов - 14 марта, однако, из-за частичной утечки информации имя представителя было объявлено 10 марта.
