The EBU announced in January that the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest will take place at the newly constructed Baku Crystal Hall. The Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group, the governing body of the Contest on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), approved the venue proposed by the Host Broadcaster, Ictimai TV. The venue has been selected from three proposed options, other two being renovations of Tofiq Bahramov Stadium, or the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Exhibition Complex.

The Baku Crystal Hall, which was commissioned by the City of Baku, is a brand new multi-purpose indoor arena with an expected capacity of up to 23,000 spectators. Approximately 16,000 people will be able to attend each of the three Eurovision Song Contest live shows in May. Baku Crystal Hall (Baki Kristal Zali) will be constructed on National Flag Square by Alpine Bau Deutschland AG with the end of works in March-April. Alpine Bau Deutschland AG was awarded the contract as general contractor by the State Committee for Property Affairs of Azerbaijan in August 2011. Alpine is implementing the construction with NUSSLI. The international project team consists also specialists from the companies gmp International GmbH, Basler & Hofmann AG, and SSF Ingenieure AG.

The complex will be decorated with numerous light instalments, that will allow to create different effects, in particular, to display on the frontage of the complexe pictures with around 45 thousand colours. "Frontage of the complex will be directly used in the show. During performance of each entrant, light equipment will show on the frontage of the building colours of his national flag", informed in "Nussli International AG", which is partner of the project.

The conditions of hosting of the contest in Azerbaijan included guarantees about security during the event, as well as freedom of expression, to all participants, fans and accredited journalists as well as softened visa procedures for accreditation and ticket holders. On October 8th it was announced that necessary guarantees have been received from Prime-Minister of the country.

В январе ЕВС объявил о том, что конкурс песни Евровидение 2012 пройдет в строящемся Baku Crystal Hall. Организационная группа конкурса Евровидение, от лица Европейского Вещательного Союза (ЕВС) утвердила место проведения конкурса, предложенное телекомпанией-организатором Ictimai TV. Оно было выбрано из трех вариантов, двумя другими из которых были - реконструированный стадион им. Тофика Бахрамова, или Спортивно-выставочный комплекс им. Гейдара Алиева.

Baku Chrystal Hall, строительство которого было заказано мэрией города Баку - абсолютно новая арена закрытого типа, предназначенная для различного вида мероприятий, и способная вместить до 23 тысяч зрителей. Ожидается, что около 16 тысяч зрителей посетят каждое из трех шоу Евровидения в мае. Baku Crystal Hall (Baki Kristal Zali) будет построен на Площади Национального Флага компанией Alpine Bau Deutschland AG со сроками окончания работы в марте-апреле. Alpine Bau Deutschland AG стал генеральным подрядчиком по решению Государственного коммитета по делам собственности Азербайджана в августе 2011 года. Alpine будет сотрудничать в строительстве зала с компанией NUSSLI. В международный проект также выходят специалисты из компаний gmp International GmbH, Basler & Hofmann AG, и SSF Ingenieure AG.

Спортивно-концертный комплекс "Baku Crystal Hall", где в мае пройдет конкурс "Евровидение-2012", будет оснащен многочисленными световыми установками, позволяющими создавать различные эффекты, в частности, изображения на фасаде комплекса позволят отражать около 45 тысяч цветовых оттенков. "Фасад комплекса непосредственно будет использован для шоу. Во время выхода на сцену каждого исполнителя светоустановки позволят отражать на фасаде здания цвета флага его страны", - отметили в компании "Nussli International AG", которая является партнером проекта по строительству комплекса.

Условия проведения конкурса в Азербайджане включали в себя требование гарантий безопастности во время мероприятия, а также свободы выражения всем участникам, фанатам и аккредитованным журналистам, а также облегчения процедуры получения виз для обладателей аккредитаций и держателей билетов. 8го октября было объявлено о получении этих гарантий от премьер-министра страны.

According to the Executive Director of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alekperov, during the construction of the arena have arisen difficulties due to weather conditions, resulting in a three-week delay in construction. "Arena, on which will be held the "Eurovision Song Contest" will continue to be used for other concerts," - said Alekperov.

"Арена, на которой пройдет конкурс "Евровидение", в дальнейшем будет использоваться для других грандиозных концертов", - сказал Алекперов.

07/05 President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva today inaugurated the main arena of the 57th Eurovision Song Contest – the newly constructed Baku Crystal Hall. The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing opening of the Hall. The President and First Lady were informed on the construction of the arena with 25.000 people capacity, its original architecture. As stated, the complex will be further used for other grand concerts, as well as for international events. This is also symbolic that the Crystal Hall is situated in the vicinity of the State Flag Square, which is a more important factor.

Also today President of Azerbaijan inaugurated a new section of the Seaside National Park. Accompanied by his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, the President toured the Park`s expanded area by electric cars. The 1.8km-long new stretch links the Park to the National Flag Square. The new section covers an area of 20 hectares. The redevelopment and expansion of the Seaside National Park is part of President Ilham Aliyev`s measures to modernize the country`s look. The redevelopment saw the opening of a new line for cars, mini-buses and mini-trains travelling on the facility`s territory. A new bicycle lane was also built here. The Park received a state-of-the-art lighting system, as well as rare trees and plants. The redevelopment work will also see the installation of leisure facilities and entertainment attractions here. The Park`s 450m-long pier was extended to further 100m into the sea. The expansion will see the Park reach 25km in length, linking it to Zigh and Shikh beaches.

The opening ceremony of the newly completed stretch of Baku-Alat highway leading to the State Flag Square was also held. The minister of transport Ziya Mammadov informed the Head of State on the technical parameters of the 2,8 km long new stretch with 3,75 meters of length. The highway leads from Azneft Square to the State Flag Square and further beyond the Bibiheybat Sanctuary. As stated, the newly opened stretch will lessen transport density in the mentioned residential area.

7 мая Президент Азербайджанской Республики Ильхам Алиев и его супруга Мехрибан Алиева приняли участие в открытии Baku Crystal Hall, где пройдет песенный конкурс "Евровидение - 2012". Глава государства разрезал ленту в знак открытия комплекса. Президент Азербайджана и его супруга были подробно проинформированы о работе, проделанной в Baku Crystal Hall, а также о подготовке к конкурсу. Отмечалось, что комплекс на 25 тысяч зрительских мест отличается оригинальной архитектурой и придает архитектурному ансамблю столицы особую красоту. В будущем в комплексе можно будет проводить и другие международные мероприятия. Одним из важных факторов, повышающих значение Baku Crystal Hall, является то, что он расположен рядом с площадью Государственного флага.

Также, президент и его супруга Мехрибан Алиева приняли участие в открытии нового участка Национального приморского парка в городе Баку. Общая площадь нового участка приморского парка, длиною в 1,8 км и продлевающегося от площади «Азнефть» до площади Государственного флага Азербайджана, составляет 20 гектаров. Вместе с ним была открыта и 2-4-километрового участка дороги Баку-Алят, ведущего к площади Государственного флага. Министр транспорта Зия Мамедов проинформировал главу государства о технических параметрах дороги. Отмечалось, что протяженность дороги составляет 2,8 километра, а ширина полос движения – 3,75 метра. На 8-полосной дороге также построены четыре пешеходных перехода. Одним из важных факторов, повышающим значение дороги, является то, что она обеспечивает удобное движение автомобилей от площади "Азнефть" до площади Государственного флага, а оттуда - в направлении мечети Бибиэйбат.
