03/07 The brand new Telenor Arena, will host the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on 25, 27 and 29 May next year, as stated in EBU press-release circulated earlier today. A pre-agreement was signed by NRK and the stadium, which is situated in Baerum just south of Norway's capital.

"This is a huge and important event. NRK is looking forward to working with Telenor Arena in a both positive and constructive way during the coming year," says the Norwegian Broadcasting Company's Director General, Hans Tore Bjerkaas.

The Telenor Arena is Northern Europe's largest indoor stadium, with a capacity of 15,000 spectators for football matches, and 23,000 for concerts. The arena opened in February 2009, and has since welcomed more than 70,000 visitors for concerts by the likes of AC/DC and Tina Turner.

"We believe this is a good solution. Telenor Arena is constructed to host major events -- and this is definitely a spectacular event. This choice secures superb conditions for the production," says Hasse Lindmo, TV-producer of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest at NRK. "Factors such as size, outdoor space and other production facilities have been important in the decision. It feels great to start summer vacation knowing we have the best possible starting point for the huge job ahead of us."

Last month, a team of European Broadcasting Union (EBU) representatives visited Oslo for a kick-off production meeting with the core 2010 Eurovision Song Contest team of NRK.

"They already filled their key positions, did in-depth research to what it takes to organise this enormous event and they are eager to lay the foundations of the production before summer holidays. I believe NRK made a good choice by picking the Fornebu Arena as location for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. It's brand new, equipped with the latest technologies and seems to meet all requirements to host Europe's favourite TV-show," says Svante Stockselius, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of the EBU.

Earlier, several top figures in organization of the contest have been appointed. Jon Ola Sand (48), will be NRK's Executive Producer for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, Hasse Lindmo (36) will be the Television Producer, and Stian Malme (39), Norwegian Head of Delgation for the Eurovision Song Contest will accupy position of the Venue Manager.

Fan Stand /
From about 2000 when Eurovision had taken place in Stockholm, Sweden, OGAE had a fan stand at the Eurovision venue to try and inform the fans and accreditated people about Eurovision and the various fan clubs around Europe and elsewhere. The fan stand in Oslo, Norway, will try to be the best fan stand yet. Host country Norway will play a major role and the Norwegian OGAE co-ordinator is Odd-Geir Gundersen. He will make sure the fan stand is never without capable and knowledgeable volunteers giving their time to inform everybody about Eurovision.

From OGAE International, the co-ordinator will be Roy van der Merwe, the president of OGAE Rest of the world. He will be there most of the time during especially the second week to make sure the fans and visitors share in the excitement of music - and various CD's will be given away as prizes.

Unlike Moscow, the fan stand will open on day one, 16 May and will close on the last day, 29 May. The hours of the fan stand will chance depending on the various activities but the fan stand will be open during activities at the venue.

16-19th of May: 09.00-19.00
20-22nd of May: 10.00-20.00
23rd of May: 10.00-19.00
24-29th of May: 12.00-22.00

Like in the past, the main feature of the fan stand will be the annual voting - which 10 countries you think will qualify for the final from semi final 1 and which 10 countries you think will qualify for the final from semi final 2. And then of course once all 25 countries are known for the final, which country will win EUROVISION 2010.

The person who predicts the most countries correct from semi final 1 will win a prize - a MP 3 player. If say 3 people all predict 9 countries correct, then a draw will take place to find the one winner. The same will happen with semi final 2 and again a MP3 player will be as a prize. There is unfortunately no prize for predicting the winning country in the final as that is usually far too easy and anyway the fan stand won't operate on the Sunday.

Besides the two big prizes of MP3 players, there will be daily prizes awarded to visitors of the fanstand - these will mostly be MUSIC prizes.

The prizes will vary but will be mostly CD's
1 - some of the 39 songs at Eurovision 2010 (but here we depend on the various delegations to "donate" CD's to us)
2 - CD singles of previous Eurovision singers (about 20 of so have been donated to us so far)
3 - full CD's of mostly South African artists who have covered on their CD's an Euro song in Afrikaans
4 - special demo CD singles made by artists especially for the fan stand - we call them FAN STAND specials
5 - eurovision LP's - mostly from the 80's

Unlike previous fan stands, this time every worker who has done more than a 2 hour shift over the 15 days, will each receive a special FAN STAND souvenier CD - it contains 18 covers of NORWEGIAN eurovision songs by other artists.

We have a couple of surprises planned for the fan stand but of course it won't be a surprise if we tell you about it now. But there will be a press board where we will announce certain events happening at the fan stand.

We hope for a record numbert of visitors at the fan stand during the 15 days.

н. Fan Stand Specials

In 2009 Finland surpisingly made it to the final with LOSE CONTROL. LUDIK, a trio recorded a cover of this song. LUDIK is fronted by STEFAN LUDIK from NAMIBIA with two other members, one from AFRICA and one from EUROPE.

In 2008 the song SENHORA DO MAR (NEGRAS AUGUAS) by Vania Fernandes was the overwhelming fan favourite. Composed by Andrej Babic of Croatia with lyrics by Carlos Coelho of Portugal, this song has just been covered in Afrikaans by new singing sensation, 16 year old Michelle Marx and she calls is TANGO.
The question for this competition is - Name one other country for which Andrej Babic has composed a Eurovision entry other than Portugal and Croatia.

In 1993 Niamh Kavanagh won Eurovision 1993 with the song IN YOUR EYES. She is back for Ireland in 2010. A student student of Cape Town BERENIKE RAE SEGAL decided to pay tribute to Niamh and did her song in Afrikaans as IN JOU OE (in your eyes).
The question for this competition is - Give us the title of Niamh Kavanagh's 2010 entry.
As we are handing a copy of it to Niamh as a souvenir, there is only one copy left for someone to win. So it will go to someone who entered at either the FAN STAND or EURO CAFE. But we have a surprise for one other person - another student LIEZL LEVENDAL from Cape Town covered another Irish winner - THE VOICE of EIMAR QUINN in Afrikaans as EK IS DIE STEM (I am the voice) and so someone will win this.

COMPETITION FIVE
Entries to this competition closes on THURSDAY 20 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
Way back in 1993 Barbara Dex represented Belgium at Eurovision with the song IEMAND ALS JIJ. For some reason the song did not do well. Now many years later exciting new singing sensation, 20 year old JASMYN decided to cover the song, both in ENGLISH and AFRIKAANS as SOMEBODY LIKE YOU and IEMAND SOOS JY and it is a winner.
The question for this competition is - What position did Barbara Dex reach at Eurovision?
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be annouced and the prize is a copy of the song SOMEBODY LIKE YOU/IEMAND SOOS JY by JASMYN.

COMPETITION SIX
Entries to this competition closes on FRIDAY 21 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
This year Agnetha from ABBA turned 60 years old on 5 April. To remember this, NEDINE BLOM from South Africa thanked ABBA for their wonderful songs and did THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC in AFRIKAANS as DANKIE VIR DIE NOTE.
The question for this competition is - Name ABBA's EUROVISION winner in 1974?
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be announced and the prize is a copy of the song by NEDINE BLOM - DANKIE VIR DIE NOTE.

COMPETITION SEVEN
Entries to this competition closes on SATURDAY 22 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as at the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
Boybands are very popular - usually because they consist of a variety of guys and there is usually someone for every taste. In 2007 D'nash sang I LOVE YOU MI VADA for Spain at Eurovision and this was also a very catchy song. It has been covered in Afrikaans by a new male singer ANDRE MARTINEZ and he calls it WEES DEEL VAN MY LEWE (Be part of my life). You can be part of this song by entering our competition.
The question for this competition is - One of the composers of this song is Swedish and he is in Eurovision 2010 again (for Denmark). Give us his name.
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be annouced and the prize is a copy of the song WEES DEEL VAN MY LEWE by ANDRE MARTINEZ.

COMPETITION EIGHT
Entries to this competition closes on SUNDAY 23 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
Georgia returns to Eurovision in 2010 after giving 2009 a miss. Their 2008 entry PEACE WILL COME by DIANA GURTSKAYA has just been covered in Afrikaans as VREDE SAL KOM by COLE VAN DAIS. She is well known in South Africa in JAMES BOND circles after bringing out a CD with covers of almost every James Bond theme song. .
The question for this competition is - Karen Kavaleryan wrote the original lyrics to Peace will come. He is back at Eurovision 2010. For that country has he written the lyrics this time around?
Due to the rarity of VREDE SAL KOM by COLE VAN DAIS together with the MZANZI RHYTHMS chorus, only one copy is available for a combined winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE. But a second winner will be drawn who will get ARMENIA 2008 in AFRIKAANS called KOM NOU KOM NOU by HEIDI VAN WYK.

COMPETITION NINE
Entries to this competition closes on MONDAY 24 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
Israel has given us good songs over the years and his year HARAL is very popular and among the favourites. In 1998 Israel surprised everybody by sending DANA INTERNATIONAL to Eurovision and she won with the catchy song DIVA. RIANA VAN WYK recorded it both in ENGLISH and AFRIKAANS. The English appears on a commercial CD easy to obtain but the Afrikaans version is quite rare.
The question for this competition is - After Israel won Eurovision twice in a row, they decided not to host it in 1980. What country stepped in to host the Eurovision that year?
Due to the rarity of DIVA by RIANA VAN WYK, only one copy is available for a combined winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE. But a second winner will be drawn who will get ISRAEL 2002 in AFRIKAANS called LAAT JOU LIG SKYN by SUZANNE RENTZKE who specially recorded this for OGAE Rest of the world because it is a huge favourite of its president.

COMPETITION TEN
As this is semi final 1 day, there are two competitions.
Entries to the first competition closes on TUESDAY 25 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as at the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
In 2009 France sent world famous PATRICIA KAAS to Eurovision with the song ET S'IL FALLIAT LE FAIRE. OGAE Rest of the world member Carel-Piet van Eden wrote Afrikaans lyrics and another OGAE Rest of the world member, RENE VAN REENEN recorded it as ASEMSNAK.
The question for this competition is - In Moscow Patricia got a diamond disc for sales of her 2009 CD. How many copies were sold?
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be annouced and the prize is a copy of the song ASEMSNAK by RENE VAN REENEN. As Rene is present in Oslo, she will hand the prizes personally to the winners and sign them.

The second competition is the very exciting one where everybody must predict which 10 countries from semi final 1 will go through to the EUROVISION FINAL. Here everybody has just one chance to predict his or her 10 countries. All entries from both the FAN STAND and EURO CAFE will be taken into account and the person with the most correct countries will be the winner of a MP3 player -
People can enter for this compettiion until the start of semi final 1, so just before 21h00.

OGAE Rest of the world is giving its annual award to the 2010 song of ROMANIA. But several Romanian songs have been covered by South African singers in the past and the latest is the entry of 2008 - PE-O MARGINE DE LUME by NICO AND VLAD. TOBI JOOSTE sings it in AFRIKAANS as HIERBINNE (Here inside).
The question for this competition is - Which song represented Romania in 2006?
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be annouced and the prize is a copy of the full CD of TOBI JOOSTE called AMORE on which HIERBINNE is one of the 10 tracks. This prize is sponsored by Nelius Ferreira of ARTIST WAREHOUSE.

As this is semi final 2 day, there are two competitions.
Entries to the first competition closes on THURSDAY 27 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as at the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
As we all know, NORWAY won Eurovision 2009 - that is why we are here in Oslo now. Newcomer ALEXANDER RYBAK brought us the delightful FAIRYTALE. OGAE Rest of the world member Carel-Piet van Eden wrote Afrikaans lyrics and another OGAE Rest of the world member, LEE SCOTT recorded it in Afrikaans as WONDERLAND (Wonderland).
The question for this competition is - In what country was Alexander Rybak born?
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be annouced and the prize is a copy of the song WONDERLAND by LEE SCOTT. As Lee is present in Oslo, he will hand the prizes personally to the winners and sign them.

The second competition is the very exciting one where everybody must predict which 10 countries from semi final 2 will go through to the EUROVISION FINAL. Here everybody has just one chance to predict his or her 10 countries. All entries from both the FAN STAND and EURO CAFE will be taken into account and the person with the most correct countries will be the winner of a MP3 player -
People can enter for this competition until the start of semi final 2, so just before 21h00.

COMPETITION THIRTEEN
We will also have two competitions for this day.
Entries to both competition closes on FRIDAY 28 May at 17h00. People could enter both at the FAN STAND inside the press center as well as the EURO CAFE for those without accreditation.
OGAE Rest of the world is very happy to be part of the OGAE family and can play such an active role in the 2010 Eurovision via the FAN STAND. The fan stand could not have been possible without the help of a lot of people - too many to name, but a big thank you to every volunteer who helped here during the 14 days. Also to various record companies who sponsored prizes. One has to be singled out, SONY MUSIC SOUTH AFRICA. The president of OGAE Rest of the world and the head of the Afrikaans music division at Sony, NAOMI LE ROUX have a great relationship and she gave a special t-shirt Roy was wearing one day at the fan stand. They also supplied a bag of CD's for the winner of this competition.
The question for this competition is - In what city was the first Eurovision song contest in 1956?
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be annouced and the prize is a variety of SONY CD's - among them KOBUS MULLER, GEORGE MEIRING, ANDRIETTE NORMAN, WILLEM BOTHA, DEWALD LOUW and SHAUN TAIT. These CD's all contain EURO covers in AFRIKAANS.

In the second competition we remember those countries who did not see their way open to come to OSLO - like ITALY, LUXEMBOURG, ANDORRA, SAN MARINO, MONACO, AUSTRIA, HUNGARY, THE CZECH REPUBLIC and MONTENEGRO.
We really hope they are just sitting out this round and will be back soon.
The question for this competition is - How many times have the Czech republic taken part in Eurovision?
A winner from both the FAN STAND and the EURO CAFE will be annouced and the prize is a variety of CD's with AFRIKAANS covers of songs from the countries not with us this year, like EK IS GEREED (I am ready) by REA LE ROUX (Andorra 2009), WIL JY KOM OF BLY (Will you come or stay) by JEANDRE ODENDAAL (Montenegro 2009) and AS MENS KAN WEET (If a person knows) by PRISCILLA SMITH (Hungary 2008).

Hosts of 2010 Eurovision Song Contest revealed: Nadia Hasnaoui will present the voting and scoreboard, and make sure spokespersons from all over Europe can cast their votes in a timely manner. Erik Solbakken and Haddy N'jie will open the show, and cheer with the artists.

"We have been through an extensive process, and in the end we think we've found the absolutely best hosts for this job," says NRK's Executive Producer Jon Ola Sand. "These three represent an unique combination of talent and experience, and we are certain they will lead these shows in an excellent way. We are proud of being able to recruit such talent from within NRK, "he adds.

The hosts have known about the secret for some time already. "It has been a little unreal, and I had to spend some time letting it sink in when they asked," says Nadia Hasnaoui. She will be responsible for the whole voting segment during all three shows in May: "During the voting, it is important everything is transparent and fair for all, and at the same time it might get extremely exciting in the end. I'm proud and humbled over being given this opportunity," says Hasnaoui.

Erik Solbakken and Haddy N'jie will host the show, which means they will both introduce the artists and stay with them in the green room during the voting. "We will be hosting great artists from 39 countries, and what I'm looking forward to the most is to meet them and see their acts. At the same time, I have to say it will be a special moment to be allowed to say 'Good evening, Europe!' on Saturday 29 May," Erik says. Haddy N'jie agrees: "We will host five shows in May, with up to 18,000 people in the audience each time. It will certainly be a busy period for us, but it is hard to imagine a more exciting job. Yes, we have nerves but feel confident because we have a large team of professionals in both NRK and EBU around us," Haddy says.

The organizers of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest are inviting thousands of people in ten cities across Europe to dance with them. In each of the participating cities, they will gather hundreds or even thousands of people who will learn a simple dance which will be filmed during one afternoon and broadcast during the Final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. They are planning to pull off the largest 'flash mob' event in Europe with tens of thousands of people participating.

Peter Svaar, Head of Press for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of host broadcaster NRK, said: "We want to share the Eurovision Song Contest, rather than just broadcast it. With 18,000 people live on location in Oslo dancing, plus video footage of large flash mob groups from ten major cities, the song, the movements, the arena, and all the cities will share a common musical experience together."

The famous Norwegian group MADCON has recorded the song Glow, written especially for this occasion. You can download the single here and it will be available for physical release right after Eurovision final.

08/02 It took no more than 20 minutes to complete sales of the tickets for the final of Eurovision Song Contest 2010. Already after five minutes over 3,000 tickets have been sold, it were the most expensive and cheapest tickets that were sold first.

10 000 of the final tickets have already been distributed among the various delegations of participating countries and various fan clubs, while the remaining 8000 were available to the public. The tickets are still left for the other events, but the final is completely sold out.

- I've got goosebumps, it's pretty crazy to see that the tickets go out so fast, says Peter Svaar, press spokesman for the ESC.

- This is such an unique event, that a fare of up to 1600 kroner is not particularly huge for those interested. Madonna-tickets this summer was on the same level, says Kjell Arne Orseth, representative of Ticket Service.

- On call our center there were 25 people answering phones. We also have made a maximum capacity of our servers, since most are trying to buy tickets over the Internet, says Orseth.

Both Orseth and Peter Svaar encourages the Eurovision Song Contest fans to stay away from the black market, even if they did not get tickets for the final.

- Tickets are not sent out until April, so you buy a product the seller himself has not received. It is also often a number of fake tickets in circulation for such events, "said Orseth. He encourages disappointed fans without tickets to the final to consider purchasing ones for dress rehearsals.

However, at the sole discretion of the EBU's acting Head of Press, and where the quality and circulation criteria justify their consideration, such publications may be eligible for accreditation on a case by case basis.

Also, it is specifically noted that accreditation should be submitted only:
- Via the delegation of the country where your passport was issued
- Via the delegation of the country where you are legally residing
- Via the EBU if you come from or reside in a non-participating country

- access of fans to opening- and afterparties will depend on the capacities.

Press and Fan accreditation does not provide access to the Show Desk, Backstage Area, Commentators Area or the Technical Areas, and is not valid as a concert ticket.

VISA: If required, a special form to obtain a single entry visa to the Norway will be sent to each applicant by email, within 10 working days after the application was approved.

Contest Theme /

sharethemoment-RESIZE-s925-s450-fit.jpg (39326 bytes)
Next year's running of Europe's favourite TV-show will be constructed around the theme 'Share The Moment'. The theme art design of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest was designed by the award-winning Norwegian design firms Gosu, Handverk and Snohetta, based on a detailed brief of NRK. "We want to share the Eurovision Song Contest, rather than just broadcast it," Hasse Lindmo, TV-producer of the contest for NRK, said to Eurovision.tv. "One particular thing that makes the Eurovision Song Contest such a unique event is the fact that it's the only time of the year in Europe that some 125 million people are doing exactly the same thing, at exactly the same time. Whether you're in Iceland or in Armenia, in Portugal or in Finland. Or here in Oslo," Lindmo explained. "What do some 125 million people look like? That was one our main questions." The coloured spheres represent gathering people and the diversity of emotions surrounding the Eurovision Song Contest. The theme 'Share The Moment' will be closely embedded into the two Semi-Finals and the Final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, as well as in the events in the weeks and months leading up to it, such as the draws, the Heads of Delegation meeting in March, the welcome reception in mid-May and after-parties.

04/02 As ESCKaz has informed a while ago, this Sunday at 14.00 CET host Broadcaster NRK and the EBU will conduct Semi-Finals Allocation Draw. As we have exclusively revealed earlier, a new thing this year will be the fact that as part of the draw, it will also be determined if those countries will perform in the first or second half of the respective Semi-Final, so that each delegation already knows on which day they are expected in Oslo for the rehearsals in May.

Today, EBU has confirmed the pots for the draw, based on voting patterns of last years as analyzed by the contest's voting partner Digame. By spreading these countries over two Semi-Finals, the impact of neighbour- and diaspora voting is limited and the contest more exciting.

Pot 1: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland
Pot 2: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden
Pot 3: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Israel, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine
Pot 4: Armenia, Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, the Netherlands, Turkey
Pot 5: Bulgaria, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia

There will also be a draw to decide which of the two Semi-Finals the so-called 'Big Four' (France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom) and host country Norway will be obliged to broadcast and vote in.

15/01 The semi-finals draw will be held on February 7th. As before, to avoid a neighbour voting, all countries will be divided into 6 baskets. This year, there are some changes brought in the procedure. Especially for the delegations, who need to plan the schedule for their stay in Oslo, the draw will also determine whether countries will perform in the beginning of the running order, that is in first 8-9 entries, or in the end of the order, thus allowing delegations to plan in advance the arrival to the Euroweek in Oslo. Also, as usual, there will be held another draw for the Big Four and Norway, where it will be determined which of them is broadcasting which semifinal and vote in it. And the exact spots of running order will be determined on 22nd of March at the meeting of heads of delegations.

04/12 Symbolic musical key of the major music competition in Europe - "Eurovision", stored for the year in the Moscow City Hall, on Thursday left the capital of Russia. Key went together with a delegation of the Moscow government, headed by Deputy Mayor Valery Vinogradov to the Norway. "An important part of the delegation's visit will be talks with the mayor of Oslo, Fabian Stang on the development of relations between the two European capitals," Interfax reported.

On Friday afternoon, around 14.30 CET, the representatives of governments of Moscow, Oslo and Baerum V.Vinogradov, F.Stang and O.Reinsfelt will gather at the Baerum Kulturhus for the Host City Insignia Exchange. As part of the ceremony, there will be an entertainment programme of children from Baerum. The 2009 winner of Europe's favourite TV-show, Alexander Rybak, is scheduled to perform as well.

001.jpg (43122 bytes)004.jpg (51373 bytes)
19/01 Updated Delivering News First! Eurovision coordinator Svante Stockselius is currently in Belarus with inspection on preparations of Minsk to the Junior Eurovision 2010. He has visited venue of the contest "Minsk-Arena", took part in talk-show on First Channel of BTRC and has answered questions in online-conference.

Svante Stockselius attempted to refute the prevailing in CIS countries assumption that Eurovision is the contest for housewives. "We do not position Eurovision as an event for a single target group. This is a unique show for all age groups: children, women, men, middle-aged people," he said.

"We have been thinking about the issue of cutting the time spent on announcement of the votes and we think we did well, introducing the way when first seven points appear on the screen automatically and only three top are announced by spokespersons", said Svante in response to criticism about the slowness of the show. "Our idea is to turn this hour, which might seem to someone long and boring, into a real thriller. As to the suggestion of combining the vote of the unqualified countries that do not participate in the final, in one group, I believe that this proposal is not feasible."

"In fact, we would very much like to organize a voting of the audience and jury all in one evening, but technically it is impossible. If in one country or another will be any problem with the ballot and it will be destroyed, we have the option to appeal to the verdict given by the jury in advance. Moreover, the jury has the opportunity to listen to the tracks several times to make a more objective decision", said Stockselius.

Mr.Stockselius has once again confirmed information exclusively revealed by ESCKaz a while ago, as for the tickets going on sale on 8th of February and that there won't be changes in the schedule of Euroweek this year. "In fact, we tried to reduce the time of the rehearsal process, but decided not to do so, because some artists can express claims and to complain about them having not enough time to prepare a quality performance. So, so far everything remains as it used to be".

Being asked that according to some information Russia's financial participation has exceeded the one of Spain and whether this will lead to the extension of the Big 4, Stockselius has declined to comment: "I should note that we can not comment on the financial agreements concluded between the European Broadcasting Union and its members. I can only say that the current system of "Big Four" has established itself on the positive side, because if there were not these 4 large countries, this would mean that other countries will be forced to pay more. And I refuse to comment on the possible inclusion of Russia in the "Big Five". No changes are planned so far".

"In fact, 39 countries - perhaps it is not a record, but I think this is a very good indicator, especially in times of financial crisis. Each year, some new countries are entering and countries withdraw from the contest. This is a normal process. In fact, EBU indeed provides broadcasters significant financial assistance. I can say that we are returning to countries more than half of their entrance fee through the funds received from sponsors", said Eurovision coordinator.

On the question of whether EBU is planning a return of the winners tour or introduction of another prize, such as pan-European release of CD single of the winner, Svante noticed that the Eurovision prizes will not go beyond symbolic ones: "EBU offers the winner the audience in the amount of 124 million people, and we believe that is better than any other material prize. You get the fame, glory and the opportunity to start a successful international career. "

Coordinator of Eurovision once again assured that he has no personal preferences in the competition: "It does not matter, whether I like the track or not. For me, more important is to ensure fairness and transparency of the process, but every year I like a lot of songs. And I can say that, being present during the rehearsals, I constantly hear the same songs and they are literally cut into my consciousness. And then I can not get rid of them and am singing them again and again. Of course, all the countries participating in competition, whether it is Junior or Adult Eurovision should have equal opportunities for the organization and staging of their performance. And I personally do not care from which country participant is, whether he is from France, Estonia, Armenia, or Turkey. My task is to ensure impartiality, objectivity and integrity of the process. And on who will win - it is a question to the audience and the members of the jury, "he said. "I'm useless as forecaster. May be I only can say with some certainty what songs may enter the top four", he added.

Speaking about him own music preferences Stockselius has said: "I like R'n'B genre best of all and from performers my favourite is Lady GaGa. I'd really like her to take part in Eurovision song contest. This is my biggest dream". "Speaking on Eurovision, I have several favourite songs. Most of them I like "Non Ho L'eta", this was Italian entry in the early 60s. Very beautiful song. Surely I like "Waterloo" of ABBA, last year's entry of Alexander Rybak, I also like Dima Bilan and many other songs", he added.

"Swedish companies were engaged in the staging of the contest, three or four times and did it very successfully. If you do something professionally, you will get noticed and be invited again and again. Last year, though the Russians themselves were responsible for staging, and in 2010 Norwegians will be. The fact that the Swedes did it 3 or 4 times is pure coincidence", he noticed.

28/12 Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten has published an interview with EBU Eurovision Executive Superviser Svante Stockselius. Here are some extracts from it.

"I never doubted that NRK would handle the task, but feared that the final would be dominated by Trolls, Viking helmets and lusekofte. But NRK had from the first moment made it clear that this is an event for the whole of Europe, and will present the view of modern Norway, "says Svante Stockselius. At the moment there has been no decision on the hosts of the show, but criteria is clear: "They must be able to speak both English and French, and at least one of them must have previous television experience, in case something were to happen on the live broadcast. They should not be too old, they must feel modern".

He praised Norwegian broadcaster again mentioning that "The organization has never been so early in place, NRK is both disciplined and effective", however noting that Russian Eurovision is impossible to beat "Ambitions of the Russians were high: They were prepared to invest a lot of money, and realized the importance of such a big PR event. They have produced all-time best Eurovision". But this year intention is not to beat Russian show with cost of production: "Now we have the chance to do it differently. Therefore, we will see a completely new and qualitatively good show in Oslo. If there a place when we will have a wow-effect, it is precisely here", says Stockselius.

Stockselius believes that hosting Eurovision can bring major benefits to the country: "Estonia hosted the final in 2002 and according to their research, thanks to Eurovision tourism in the country increased by 25 percent, the most important thing was that awareness of the country increased". He thinks that even with huge costs of the show (final in Moscow costed 37 mln Euros, preliminary costs of Norwegian organization are 24 mln Euros) it is possible to go into profit: "Previously, Eurosong was a loss project, but it is not necessarily longer due to ticket sales and sponsors". He adds that even if in next years a poorer country wins, EBU will help with the organization and will take over the event. "It came close in Riga in 2003, but it is because they had major internal problems. We were even close to move the finals in the autumn. But then EBU came in and we put our people into different functions". Stockselius also explained that entry fee is varied in different participating countries: "This is calculated from the number of inhabitants and living standards in different countries. Norway will pay more than the Ukraine, even if they have 50 million inhabitants", he adds.

Svante Stockselius says that celebrity factor is important in Eurovision: "It shows that many established artists now think it is OK to be in Eurovison with a new jury system introduced to fight with criticism. Previously established artists were afraid that they might not win. Today's music industry is struggling hard, and there are not too many big musical events. Eurosong is a fantastic arena to get shown up on. Example is Britain. There, support around the Eurosong been low for many years. Therefore, they invited a songwriter, in this case Andrew Lloyd Webber. It may not be as democratic, but for the British, this was a great success. They turned a negative trend, finished fifth, and got high ratings. But anyway, I think more and more countries will eventually choose the Norwegian / Swedish variant, with semifinals". Svante also added that his dream artist to appear at Eurovision is Lady Gaga, while his best Eurovision memory is still victory of ABBA.

Svante even mentioned the fans of the contest, however, was a bit critical about their involvement: "They are important, but at the same time, they are outrageously conservative. They do not like changes and sometimes there may be a problem. But they have a very good commitment and means a lot to us".
