| The performers of the twenty songs
selected to compete in the 2004 Finnish national final - The Euroviisut - have been
announced. The twenty songs will compete in two semi-finals on January 16th and 17th. Television viewers will have the chance to televote and pick six songs from each semi final for the Euroviisut Final 2004, which will take place in Tampere-talo on January 24th. The presenters will be Maria Guzenina, Bettina Sagbom and Antero Mertaranta. The voting procedure in the final will be exactly the same as in 2002. In the first voting round, regional juries will select six songs out of 12 to advance to the second round. As soon as the results of the regional juries are announced, the lines will be opened for televoting and SMS-voting. The song, which receives the highest number of televotes and SMS-votes will be announced as the winner of the Finnish final. The final total of songs received was 344, down slightly on 2002, when 400 entries were received. According to the rules songwriters and composers may be of any nationality, but YLE insists that the performers must be Finnish or normally reside in Finland. The winning team will receive 4500 Euros. |

| Jari Sillanpдд is one of the most
successful performing artists in Finland. The beginning of his career can be traced back
to the Seinдjoki Tango Festival in 1994, when he won the “Tango Prince’ title. His
success story, however, began one year later when he won the competition and was crowned
“Tango King’. Over the years Jari has achieved almost everything an artist can hope
for. He has released eight albums, various singles, a documentary video and two books have
been written about him. In total he has recorded over 100 songs. Most of the songs are
soft pop but there are also a few tangos and evergreens among the recordings. Jari
performed one of the leading roles in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, “Aspects of
Love,” at the Seinдjoki theatre. He has won The Press Choice Award in the “The Golden
Stag” international song contest held in Rumania. He also won the Finnish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and he has won several Emma Awards. Jari is constantly on tour around Finland with his orchestra and time after time all the concert halls where he performs are sold out. |
